Aw man, 2008 was the year I didn't do any runs. Sad

Pssf, 2007 and 2008 were the years of fail for me too. Sad x 2

Though during 2009 that trend will definitely end!

I thought it was a good idea, that beta thing. I also thought i replied... guess not. I would assume you would continue working on it if I didn't say anything bad, so go for it... expand on the beta, post the thread, let people submit opinions and blocks of commentary, etc

Sorry, I forgot to make this a little more obvious. I constructed the beta in a PM, and never saved it to my outbox. Only you have it. So I need you to send it back to me. >_>;!

Sorry, I didn't mean to give a tone of aggravation or whatever.

it doesnt matter if New or Old Console or PC... just the best of the best run =)

because trihex organized it four times, X does organize it the first time = 5 times = 5th Anniversary.

Wow, I now feel pretty good about only completing one run last year.
Hi! I'm andrewg!
I think I completed like 5 runs this year. 2008 was a good year for me. Finally I'm holding all 3 NES Mario speedruns, oh and the lost levels (which is crap). Sad

Honestly, if I owned the Lost Levels it would be a quite different story Wink
O Zlda?
Wow... you should have said something before dude!

Sent. Unfortunately right now I don't have time to go over it and say what I liked or didnt like, but probably later today. I think you can expand upon it with a fresh look after a few months, anyway.

This is very true; bringing a child into the world is no small task.  Still, I'd feel better if the awards hadn't skipped the period when I did both my FFIX and FFVI SS runs. Tongue

My two favorite FF games.  Definitely some fine work.

And I only wish I had found SDA sooner.  Looks like SB64 will go on 2009, but I had 2 runs for '08 and a handful more lined up.  Grin

It's a pity most of the games I submit here are either really obscure, or just not as popular anymore. :p

Just curious...

Since it's been claimed, does anyone remember really unfair outcomes from the past one or two awards that were clearly a result of the popularity/notoriety of the game and not the quality of the speedrun?

I'm just asking because I don't recall them being terribly biased by the mainstream as far as winners went... if anything, I thought most of the uproar was about scripts in Half-Life 2.  Err, wait, was that from the year before?  Ugh, I don't remember the awards well enough.  I feel old.

Tell that to the guy who had a run that took nearly 1.5 years to get out of the verification queue and has the present oldest run in the queue at nearly 1.75 years.

Yeah, I guess I should be lucky even the most obscure game I've done so far (Bonk's Adventure) was only in there a few months, lol.

So really, none have been in the queue for 2 years yet?
Fucking Weeaboo
Asteroids (PS1) is the oldest run in there, and that was posted sometime May 2007.

I also had Clock Tower 3 (PS2) and that was from June 2007, but it's somewhere in the verification process for the last couple of months.

About the SDA Retrospect thing, I'm working on the beta some more (Thanks for sending it back DRybes! Very sorry about not making it obvious!), and you should expect a thread to pop up for it in late January. Smiley

I say 2 years because Crash Bandicoot 3's official finish date of January 1, 2007 is only because I procrastinated producing comments for the run for like, 6 months, only to realize I somehow lost segment footage and had to reproduce it (Starting a new game, getting to point x, and then creating a worthy segment y). So it's intended finish date was sometime in July 2006. Pretty sad that my name hasn't been on SDA's home page since, huh? >_>;

This is of course excluding 2007-2008 efforts Jet Set Radio Future, Viewtiful Joe SS attempt, Drake of the 99 Dragons, Gex: Enter the Gecko segmented, Sly Cooper 1 reboot, 8th-generation Yoshi's Island 100% IL improvements, and starting the Yoshi's Island any% IL table.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I'm right there with you Essentia, all the runs from May of 2007 to December of 2007 didn't end up having an awards show because it would be too much of a hassel to go back that far.

So that includes your Final Fantasy VI/IX runs(which are awesome), Inichi's Chrono Trigger run(favorite run on the site), and my Kingdom Hearts 2 run improvement(Obviously, the best run on the site).

Oh, well, Kingdom Hearts 5:49 for '09!
New Consoles : Manhunt 2  Wink

How about longest SS of the year?  I don't know if mine would technically get it though, because I completed it on Nov. 30th, but it wasn't accepted until Jan 13th of this year. =P

Longest SS of the year wouldn't work as a category. The whole point of these awards seems to be that it's opinion-based via all categories being best/worst. Longest would involve no voting whatsoever, rendering it useless for a voting-style award system.

On that note, I think that "most wanted run that's in progress of the year" isn't the best category for a couple reasons... one being that unless you check every single forum post in older/newer consoles all the time you won't know every single run that's in progress. Secondly "most wanted" refers to something that isn't visible on the website, you can have one run that's wanted by a lot of people but as long as it's just ideas in a thread somewhere I don't see how it's viable to win any sort of award.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I decided to go back and look at all the runs from the past year, and make my personal Top 10 (not neccessarily best) but favorite runs of the past year:

1.Rayman 2:The Great Escape 2:17:25 SS
2.Super Mario 64 0:17:31 16 Stars
3.Chrono Cross 6:42:11
4.Sonic the Hedgehog 0:15:05
5.Mega Man 9 0:21:37
6.Contra 3: Alien Wars 0:16:07
7.Kingdom Hearts 2 4:52 SS Beginner
8.Final Fantasy IV 3:05 Segmented
9.Conker's Bad Fur Day 1:37:59 SS
10.Battletoads & Double Dragon 22:05

For the above discussions: When it was posted, my Beavis & Butthead run was said to have (by the news poster) waited longer than any other run at that time.  If that's been beaten or if that's not exactly what they said, my mistake.  I don't remember how long it waited, but I think at least over a year.

I think the Beavis and Butthead run was one of those that was submitted before Radix introduced the requirement that verifiers had to be found before submission. All those old verifierless runs were either posted or rejected some time ago, so I think it would be less likely now that a run would get stuck in the queue for so long.
