you can clip through certain walls w/ moving ice blocks. it seems that the way to do it is to be riding a moving block, and have it carry you into a wall. face away from the wall, then when you touch it, face towards it.

99% of the time it looks like you just fall through the iceblock, but once, i stayed on the block and just rode it through the wall. that was kinda fun, but I wasn't able to duplicate it.

the closest thing to useful I could find after an hour of messing around: http://www.twitch.tv/vopeju/c/4552364
Another skip that you probably knew about, but it'd likely be pretty silly to try in a run. Pixel perfect jump at the end of a level.

the ukampa boss is pretty weird. he seemingly has rng in how fast he decides to start the fight. most times (especially if you come in to the stage from 6-2), you wait a bit, hear a crashing sound, then the music starts up. but sometimes the music starts up immediately as you enter and skips the crashing sfx bit? it's a difference of a few seconds in your time. if you have the speedrun timer on, it's the boss jumping at 6 seconds vs 10 seconds or so.

i don't think i've ever seen the boss act fast when coming in from 6-2, so for runs I guess my strat will be to immediately retry stage once and hope I get good rng, or whatever it is. can't seem to find a way to manipulate it. it's kinda funny; the antarctica boss has rng too. it can start the level by either moving up or down, so you're looking at learning two different strats for it if you wanna do it well.

but regardless of whether you get fast or slow boss.... this strat is 1 sec faster.

you can get the 3rd hit sooner after the boss lands, but then the block that you stand on between the 4th and 5th hits doesn't spawn properly and you're screwed.

re: categories, I don't personally think ukampa and antarctica should be separated. splitting the game in half doesn't make sense to me, credits or not.
Trained 5-1 and got a 18.03 (sub18 is possible, but 3 frames..).
Fireball RNG don't hurt me, but the timing must always be the same.

Here is the record, if people want to learn the timing with the music before trying it.

Kinda bummed that Curly doesn't seem to be getting more attention, but here's my first sub-30 Ukampa+Antarctica Curly% run (28:51):

I figure with some skill, and major optimization, sub 25 might not be impossible. Certainly won't come easy, though.

Alright, I'm back at it for Ninja% since it's the most fun thing to speedrun that I've found. I don't care if no one else runs it but I'll be doing it anyways and I hope people at least watch the runs when I get something good done.

Speaking of getting things done, I got 14:59 today: http://www.twitch.tv/eiiitti/c/4589121

New PB with a lot of new strats that made getting this time with this many mistakes possible. Currently the hardest parts of a optimal run are as follows:
-The jump at 1-2. Frame-perfect and saves around 5 seconds.
-The skip at 3-5. Frame-perfect as well and the following jumps and stuff that come after it need to be executed fast to not miss the cycles. Hardest trick in the game for Ninja%.
-The skip at 5-2. Works very similarly to the 3-5 skip but you're not in a hurry when you land on the platform. Looks harder but is easier than the 3-5 skip. It's still the second hardest trick of the run and it's very late in the run so practice is definitely needed.

Also, as shown in the highlight, I found out a way to get most of the pre-patch OoB routes to work again with the 3-block jump trick of the Ninja. Low jump -> Wall jump at the apex -> Double jump at the instant when you can turn around from the Wall jump. Used to skip a couple of small things and one big one. 4-2 skip is back!
Wow, awesome skip in 3-5 !

Maybe sub14 is possible ?

Sub 14 is probably close to impossible. Sub 14:20 or even 14:10 should be possible but sub 14 would be pushing it. Maybe, maybe. We'll see how far I can push it though. There was a time when I thought sub 16 was barely possible, and this was when the shuri-jumping was still in. Tongue

Alrighty, another day spent on Ninja% and some huge improvements were made to routes and new stuff was discovered as well. The biggest discovery being that this game actually has a momentum system. You move noticeably faster after jumping from a wall than starting from a full stop. All in all, this will save at least 10 seconds and it makes the annoying pixel-perfect reset-fest jump at 1-2 a piece of cake. The 4-5 route was improved by 4.5 seconds and many levels got optimized by 1-2 seconds.

After doing some test runs and only one semi-successful one (14:35 is the new record, but I won't even highlight it because a big improvement over it is coming soon), I can safely say that 13:50 is definitely possible. Most likely 13:40 too. 13:30 is the current "perfect time". Time to grind out those strats!

Today was a good day. I made a Ninja% route/trick/tech tutorial for people who want to try it out: http://www.twitch.tv/eiiitti/c/4602825
Best of Segments for the route should be at least 13:30.

I also broke my PB right after making that tutorial. 13:54 is the current record. Getting close to that optimal... http://www.twitch.tv/eiiitti/c/4602881
Taehupo and I started working on a 1001 Spikes Knowledge Base here: https://kb.speeddemosarchive.com/1001_Spikes

We're both Ninja% runners so that side will obviously be more detailed than the other categories so feel free to contribute. We're going to add all optimal routes for Ninja% in separate videos and we've already detailed the basic tips and tricks for Ninja.
To run or not to run ?
So this is what EIiitti was talking about, here are the routes videos !

We finished world 2 today and a pixel perfect jump for 4-5.
You'll have more when we can !
random idea struck while watching evo, so there's finally a use for the ice clip.

not really a sequence break, but you can save a second or two in 8-5.
Very clever!
i should also note that if you can figure out how to consistently ride the iceblock through whatever wall you enter, instead of falling through both wall & iceblock, you can probably do pretty legit sequence break on that stage by riding the 1-high block right instead of riding the 2x2 block left & back right.
I just beat Ukampa and I'm working towards finishing Antarctica. Im hoping to speedrun this game soon. If I get any decent runs I'll post one. Wish me luck :).
I know not too many people hang around here, but I'll throw the new Ninja% record here regardless.

Hi,

I've been learning the any% Aban route, and I've been playing a bit with multiplayer. I did this video as a proof of concept, this is a segmented scripted run. It looks pretty cool imo :

Obviously it's not perfect, and I've failed at perfecting 4-4 and 5-4. And doing it with 2 player in single segment would be quite a challenge Cheesy
I finally did the deathless Ninja% run. Watch it here in full 720p60fps glory:

1001 Spikes Ninja% Speedrun in 12:55 [World Record]

For any possible future runners: The current runners of this game left, at least that I know of, are me and Taehupo. Both of us are running Ninja%, so if you're not sure which category to pick up, Ninja% is the most competitive at the moment. Come hang out at twitch.tv/eiiitti or send me a message on Twitch if you want to contact me about stuff. New runners would always be nice to have. I'd like to discuss strats and stuff with anyone interested!
