EDIT (2013-04-16): The oldest times posted in this thread was achieved on a original PS1 console and the later (and faster) times was on a PS2 with fast disc speed. Since fast disc speed makes some of the game sound/music sound weird, I've decided that any future runs will not be done using fast disc speed. See page 2.

Best times (PS2/no fast disc speed/PAL version):

Courier 1:22
King's Ransom 1:11
Cold Reception 1:24
Russian Roulette 0:45 (terrible run)
Night Watch
Masquerade 3:19
Flashpoint 3:07
City of Walkways 2:20
Turncoat
Fallen Angel
Meltdown

--------------------------------------

(2011-03-24) I recorded a run of the first level "Courier":

The controls are stiff but I thought it was a fun thing to try. Not sure how much lower is possible.

Edit: Just got 1:19 on the second level, "King's Ransom":

A lot more action in this level. Also, funny how you can easily run past the woman in red clothes.

Edit2: 1:40 on the third level "Cold Reception":

New post to show some activity.

I got 0:48 on the fourth level "Russian Roulette". Not perfect but I'm surprised how low that level could go. Here's the vid:

So I just got 1:49 on the 5th level "Night Watch" and I'm starting o believe the timer might be screwed up in this game, lol. I got a 2:01 on my first serious attempt and thought that sub 2:00 would be quite good (in the 1:57 or so range), and when I finish what seemed to be a better run, I got 2:02. Huh? I kept trying some more and finally got this run, 1:49, and I can't understand where I could've gained so much time at all. Maybe it's should say 1:59 but they accidently put 4 instead. Same could be true for "Russian Roulette".

Anyway, here's the run:

Holy crap, someone FINALLY got around to this game?  Dude, you rock!  I mean it's no Goldeneye (and neither is the Wii Goldeneye, which this studio also made), but it's still one of the best Bond games out there besides it.

I admit I was honestly expecting the N64 version.  I forgot there even was a PS1 version.  Though, the N64 version actually had friggin loading times, so I guess that should have been a clue.  Hmmm, the levels seem to have slightly different layouts, if I remember correctly.  That or the graphics are so much worse that it looks that way.  *watches some more* Yeah, these have got to be differently designed levels.  Though, the spirit of each level and its general layout seems to be preserved. Btw, I'm assuming you played on Agent difficulty (or whatever Easy was called) based on how many bullets you're just walking off?  Man, these levels are way shorter than the N64 ones.

Now, if only you could record this on VHS/DVD and we'd have a real run going on here. Btw, did you have someone hold the camera the whole time?  I doubt it's sitting on a flat surface, based on the bobbing.

Your times and strategies seem really good so far.  I'd comment in more detail on the execution, but my N64 and copy of the game are across the country right now.  EDIT: Actually, I probably wouldn't be much help now that I realize how different this game is from the N64 version.  Regardless, I'm definitely checking out any updates you post.  I'm really excited to see this and I'm glad someone finally got around to it (I think I put this game on the Request list like six years ago, lol).

Thanks! Yeah, Goldeneye is still easily the champ of all Bond games, but this is a pretty good game for the PS1.

Yeah, the N64 is very different but I think the general layout is similiar, like you said. The graphics are a lot better on the N64 and the controls too, IIRC. PS1 version feels stiff and clumsy but it's still OK. I own this game for N64 too, but I need a memory card to be able to save (I only got the expansion pack). Also, I decided to play this because it's more obscure and it's the version I played as a kid.

Yeah, there are two difficulties to choose from: Agent and 007 Agent (I think). The only difference - and I read this somewhere - is more enemies on 007, more damage and no automatic reloads (lol?), and yeah; all levels, at least so far, are very short!

I record the runs on my crappy VHS, then record that with my digital camera so the bobbing is because of my shaky hands. Tongue I don't own a capture card, but I think my PC has a free "slot" where you can put it (semi-PC n00b). Does SDA still allow VHS runs? In any case, I can at least put them on youtube.

Thanks man. Yeah, I think there's too much differences between the versions but I'm glad you still like my runs. Lol, that's a long time ago. Grin

Oh, those were on VHS?  Yes, VHS runs are definitely still allowed.  The only problem is that you need to transfer them to DVD or transfer them to your computer to submit.  If you know anyone with a DVD recorder, I would go this route before buying a capture card.  Just plug your VCR into the inputs on the DVD recorder and transfer it over on the highest quality setting.  After that, your easiest bet is to buy a Dazzle or something cheap.

Or you can just leave it on youtube, whatever.  I wish you'd do a run of the N64 version someday, too.  I'm far more familiar with that.  But still, it's good to see this too, so keep posting your progress!

Cool! But let's say I have a capture card and record my runs in real time i.e. capture card in one input on my switch hub thing, start recording on the computer, and then play like normal on my TV. Would that be sufficient quality you think? I think my friend had a setup like that before, but I've moved to another town so I'm not sure if he could help me or perhaps capture my runs. Starting to think about it, his computer might be dead too, lol.

Btw, I believe there exist runs on the N64 version (I've seen one a long time ago) done by some of the guys over at the-elite.net, so your best bet of seeing some runs on N64 would be to ask someone there, if you can't wait until I, possibly, decide to try it out!

Also, there are three more missions on N64 + multiplayer.

Edit: Let's say I'd buy one of these "Dazzle" things, would such a device + a switch hub, let me record to my computer in real time? (Yes, I'd redo all my runs in this scenario).
Visit my profile to see my runs!
Capture cards, I THINK, are supposed to be better quality.  Dazzle's are just kind of easier than having to go through the work of installing a capture card.  But, out of the two, I would go with a capture card, assuming money was not an issue.  (I don't remember how much either of these cost, btw)

I record onto DVD so I'm not exactly an expert on this stuff.  I've heard of some people using Dazzle, but i don't know what kind of quality they got.

I'm pretty sure that most PC capturing devices are going to allow you to record in real time.  As long as you have some way to play it on your TV (if you have a switch hub, you probably do) at the same time, then you should be okay.

Btw, if you ever find the N64 runs somewhere, feel free to post a link!  I'd love to check em out
This game looks very different indeed.
The rankings for N64 are at http://www.angelfire.com/crazy2/the_sexy_rivalry/TwineRivalry/elite.htm
and a TAS at http://tasvideos.org/975M.html
I have quite a few videos too. Courier 9 on youtube:

as for the PSX version, I don't know anything about it, but it looks like you aren't strafing in the videos in this thread, so it looks slow to me, but I could be wrong.

as for Dazzle, I have one, and it didn't live up to my expectations (tried it good once and never used again)
Hey Wouter, thanks for sharing your vids. Strafing does not make you go faster on the PS1 version.

Hm, maybe I should invest in a capture card then.

Hey thanks for the angelfire link!  I should have known there'd be some "the-elite" kind of site for this game.  For that matter, I should have known that Wouter Jansen would have his hand in it.  Lol.  Which raises the obvious question: Why haven't you submitted a run for this game, Wouter?  I think we'd all love to see it.

Ace:  Yeah, definitely go the capture card route.  It will better preserve the quality definition of your run.  Also, there are a bunch of issues with Dazzles, such as "no sound," as evidenced by recent threads around here.

Improved the first level by three seconds after only a few tries:

1:22 might be possible if I'd do some turns better, but remember: you move like house in this game.

I recorded this with a cheap EasyCAP I bought and I suspect it might be a "fake" one. Even though I tried to sharpen the video it's still very blurry.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I was playing on PS2 and I'm pretty sure I was played on PS1 before, so the loading times are probably slightly faster, thus you can get a faster time too. That's probably why I was able to beat 1:26 so easily.
Going to be following this topic...I still own the TWINE cart for N64...the fact it's on PS doesn't faze me too much...although I won't be very useful...I guess you could just call this a support post! Cheesy
Thank you! The PS1 version is very different; I actually own it for N64 too, but I haven't played it much because I can't save on it. Tongue

Does anyone know if that quality is good enough for SDA and if not, any tips on how to improve it? I wish it didn't look so blurry, that's the only problem I guess.

Also, the times I'll be getting should not be compared with my old times since I will now be playing on PS2 with fast disc speed. Pretty sure 1:23 on Courier on PS2 is equal to 1:25 or so on PS1. Is fast disc speed allowed, btw?

I think I found a way to make the vids less blurry, yay. Here's a new faster run of the second level:

Is this quality good enough (at 480p)? The music glitch at the end of the level.. not sure why it happens but I wonder if it might have something do to with fast disc speed or if it's just a glitch, problem with my disc/PS2, no idea. Does that matter for SDA?

1:23 + 1:14 = 2:37 after the first two levels. This game really has short levels when you rush through them.
Edit history:
Anemptybox: 2012-05-29 05:16:31 pm
The music glitch at the end of the last video occur when you set disc speed to fast. The characters in the game also talk very fast so this game is like Silent Hill with fast disc speed.

I'm pretty sure disc speed influence the timer in the game in some way, so the question is this: Should I play with it off to make the music sound right, or should I play with it on to possibly get better times? Would appreciate if someone could share his/hers opinion, because I'm not sure what SDA would prefer.

Since my EasyCAP sucks I'll be getting a proper one (EzCAP) soon so the sound will hopefully be improved (and maybe picture quality).
To my knowledge, if it influences the timer, you'll be timed in real time.

My personal opinion is that if a bit of distorted music is what is in the way of you and a better run...just live with it.

But at the same time, I could be totally wrong (and probably am to be honest)...so I'd wait for a more official response on the matter... Smiley

The latest video is private?
You should be able to watch it now. The only thing that really could've save time is using the grappling hook sooner at the end, but that part is a bit weird because you can't use it as early as you might think.

I'll most likely get my new EzCAP next week, btw.

Wow, from what I remember, the N64 twine had a King's Ransom too, but it was totally different.
Wouter - EVERYTHING is different from the versions...It's surprising the devs even cared enough to make two versions! I mean, some of the levels are just not in the other version...so stupid...Although I'm not calling either version better or worse mind you! Smiley

Anemptybox: 2012-07-17 02:01:14 pm
I've played this game a bit today and these are currently my best times for the first four levels (using fast disc speed on PS2):

Courier 1:19 - Pretty sure I can't get 1:18 since I've gotten 1:19 two or three times and I suspect that they're high 1:19 (like 1:19.6-8).

King's Ransom 1:10 - Found a little time save which is a bit obvious: Since you can duck in this game it's possible to use the grappling watch sooner at the end.

Cold Reception 1:21 - First try and it's pretty insane, even though the run doesn't look very impressive. The end of this level is really annoying; you need to shoot down three of those flying things and they don't always appear at the same place or time. On this run, I shot down the first one kinda slow, but the second one came flying right after and I took it down with one shot, which never happens. The third also appeared pretty much right away and I managed to spot it and take it down relatively fast.

Russian Roulette 40 - Probably possible to get 39 with only one 21 hand at the blackjack table. Two 21 in a row would probably cut the time down a few more seconds (35-36 maybe, not sure) but I've only seen that happen ONCE.

So a total time of 4:30 so far.

I'm a annoyed that the mission complete music AKA Bond theme sounds like crap when using fast disc speed, plus the rare times you hear characters talk. I hope that won't be a problem since I've asked if it's OK to use fast disc speed. I could of course not use it to make the music sound like it should, but then the times would be higher.

Well howdy there, Anemptybox.  Been a while!

So they said you could use fast disc speed?  And by "they," I mean the admins.  Have they given you an opinion yet?

Does fast disc speed affect anything other than music or speech?  If it doesn't, I honestly don't see much point in using it.  If it makes you walk faster or something, that could be a different story, however.

Howdy! I asked the question in this topic:

http://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/question_regarding_ps2_fast_disc_speed.html

So, no admin have actually said anything there. I explain in the first post that fast disc speed makes game run a bit faster (loading between rooms, I guess), thus making lower times possible.

Here's a test video of Turncoat so listen to the "music" when the level ends:

I bought this game for a reasonably price after discovering this thread and though it has a number of flaws it was quite fun to play it through altogether. Was looking forward to see this run on SDA so I would like to ask if this project have been scrapped or if there are any plans on picking it up again in the future?
