Willing to teach you the impossible
Sort of Thanksgiving ish topic.

If this question was asked about 4ish months ago, I would have said something like "Because it is fun and I seem to be liked in the community." But ask me that same question today, and you will hear a hole new answer.

A bunch of SDA members already know about what happened. But I'll try to explain it quickly. My folks got into a rather large argument, he found pics of her with another guy, like bad pics. He confronted her about it and then things escalated into more and more issues. She left and took all 6 kids with, all but me actually. Anyway, When that happened, I was told that I need to find a place to go by the 15th. She stopped by to get some stuff, and there was yet another argument, this time it was really bad, I will spare the details. After this one though, he decided to call the land lord and say he will give it back on Monday, and the utilities will be turned off by then as well. So that leave me no time to find a place or get a job to support myself. I packed my stuff and while I was doing that, more stuff happened, and I was basically homeless afterwords.

Anyway, the day all this happened, I gave my final live stream. I wanted to let my viewers know that I would not be streaming for a while. A great long while, but I would be back some day. A bunch of the viewers wanted to know what happened, so I told them. After telling them my situation, some of the members asked for my paypal account and sent me money, a bunch at that. And another offered me a place to stay given I could make it there. With the money that was sent to me, I was able to get there and stay for one week before he went off to college. During that week, they keep up with me and helped me further. Trying to get me a job, a place to live, sending me money, and offering me MUCH MUCH support. In the end of it all, another forum member offered me a place to stay for a while rent free. That is where I am today. I went from northern Michigan to Ohio to Florida is a short time. In a short amount of time I found a job and I am doing very very well.

But with all of the great things that happened in a short time, something bad really happened. My dad died on the night of his birthday. After I found this out, my roommate gave me money (because I was yet to get my first check) and helped me get back to Michigan. While I was there, I kept a thread updated and again, SDA members offered me way more support than I ever thought I would receive.

SDA means more to me than most people know. I know my case is rather extreme, but I don't care. I want to thank every one who helped me over the last few months. If not for you, I really don't know where I would be at the moment. I know I don't talk with many of you directly, but I do remember you and what you have done for me. That also goes for the one that just simply sent me PMs and helped me through the rough times. Thanks again goes to the SDA staff, and Radix for starting SDA. SDA is a place I call home. I hope to be a part of it for a long long time to repay you all for the effort you put forth to me. Again, Thank you.

I'm addicted to games
That's pretty crazy ... I hope things work out for you, and I'm glad this little corner of the Internet helped you out.

fixed! Wink

I don't really have a better answer than the people here are cool, and I don't seem to annoy too many people here. Wink

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Yeah, man, that's an insane story, but I'm glad everything is working out for you.

SDA is weird for me since I'm a relatively new member here, not a really old one, but I like it here. And I like everyone and the community, like Zenic said everyone here is pretty cool.

I mean, when I go to a forum or a community I'm not really interested in joining it, but SDA was different, I told myself I really want to become part of this place. Plus I love speedrunning.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

It makes my e-peen grow to previously unknown lengths.

It's different when you've actually seen and interacted with SDA'ers in real life.  It's not just people hiding behind avatars and nicknames.  Actually having a game on the site that I've planned, conferred with other people about, and speedrun makes it more comfortable.  I guess a lot of lurkers are lurkers because they don't have a niche in the community -- yet.
Everybody's favorite monster
Despite not being around here for a very long time, i believe i can safely say SDA is more than just a community.

It's a lifestyle!
met a lot of cool people. hadn't really done that before. also learned a lot of things whose value i'm only just beginning to appreciate.

i'm not a "natural." i have to work through things and i need constant work to stay sane too. so sda has been pretty beneficial to me and continues to surprise me to this day. maybe someday soon i can retire and start putting more time in here again.
I love SDA because i can attempt the same 2 minutes of a video game over and over again and get lucky, then put the videos together and submit it to pretend i'm good at video games. Think of how much fun speedrunning would be with infinite retries on B. cheesy
