Why isn't there any Tony Hawk's Underground run yet, of any type? I've gotten all goals playing through Sick mode a few times before when the game was newer; should I brush up on it and try it myself?

Sorry if there's a current thread on this. I did some searching and couldn't find anything recent or definitive.
Thread title:
train kept rollin
If you search there are about 3 different THUG threads, I few Sick runs have been started and ultimatley abandonned over the years.
Think I should give it a shot?
Waiting hurts my soul...
If it's something you want to do, then go for it.
I started a new file  and tried it out. In a mostly continuous 3-hour run, I completed most goals until unlocking Vancouver. Considering my last save file is listed as being from 2005, I think I can tighten it up, especially if I'm doing it in segments, only counting successful goal runs (and of course, any extra time spent unlocking stat increases, which will ideally happen on-the-fly while completing goals).

How about the glitch with the tank in Moscow, where you land in a grind on the corner of one of the tanks and the counter goes crazy and you get a huge score? Would it be okay if I used that to unlock a few stat increases, assuming I count all the time spent attempting it?
Waiting hurts my soul...
Sounds more like an exploit than a glitch, but yeah, should be okay as far as I know. Can you give any more details on it? Also, would be good to see a video and then get the final okay from Mike.
If you're starting a new game you wouldn't want to wait until Moscow to max out your stats so I don't really see any point in using the glitch anyways.

Pretty funny how this thread appeared pretty much the same time I got finished with THUG (beaten it lots of times in the past too though). I have myself been planning on running it but if you wanna step up and do it I won't. However I must say this sounds like a rather boring category. To be honest you should either just beat the game as quickly as possible which would be more interesting when it comes to planning since some missions are obviously quicker than other to do, or you should do a 100% - getting all gaps. The latter would be really entertaining to watch, I strongly suggest it. As long as it's segmented it still shouldn't be too hard to pull off, it's the matter of optimizing the route which will be really difficult.

Good luck whatever you decide to do.

Why don't both of you attempt to run it?  You can help each other find tricks and glitches, and it creates a competitive and fun atmosphere to work on it. :3
I mostly just wanted there to be SOMETHING listed for THUG. Mine wouldn't be super-snazzy or anything, just videos of each goal getting done, pretty much. If an actual speed runner wants to get it done, that'd be even better. I'll still try to produce it and see what happens, though.
After reading some verification threads, I'm pretty certain that the quality of my gameplay won't be anywhere near acceptable, even though there are no runs currently up for this game. Looking at some of the comments on rejected runs, I don't think I want to even try submitting something. I just really like the Tony Hawk series and have played most of the games (THPS1-4, THUG1-2, and THAW), but I don't think I play them well enough for an SDA run, especially after not having played them for so long. I am pretty familiar with them, though, so I'd be happy to be a verifier, if possible, on any of those games, if someone more skilled wants to take a shot at it.

If I get good enough in the future I'll give it a fresh start, but for now I don't think it's a sound idea. Sorry all. =\
I'll revive this topic since it's the most recent one on THUG.
Based on the discussion in the AGDQ Games topic I did a run on Too Easy--and got 1:15 using the most optimistic timing: http://www.justin.tv/cheaterhater/b/289438472 (quality is bad I know--I have a DVD recorder coming so hopefully I can get good quality runs soon)

I know my run isn't anywhere close to being optimized but I don't know how you can cut 60% of that time.  I'm pretty sure there's at least 10 minutes of forced time between loading times, the lag from opening the view goals screen and waiting for timers to run out (Beat the other person's score goals).  30 minutes seems optimistic even if you're hitting a perfect run (which shouldn't be done for the marathon run, but that's not the current point).  To be honest, an hour for sick seems closer to reality, but not for a live run (I'm good at Tony Hawk games, and even I have trouble getting out of Moscow--Hangover Cure Sick is the hardest line I've done in a Tony Hawk game, the satellite is really tight on time, and getting the girls is the hardest car goal in the game).  There must be something engine-wide I'm missing--so let me know so I apply it to THPS4 Wink
Ugh, that quality is unwatchable.

When I was attempting this game, I was pushing an hour SS Sick. It's just hard to be consistent. So many risky time savers in this game. It looks like you really haven't mastered the game, plus Too Easy allows for very sloppy play. If I had a way to record, I would probably be attempting this a few times a month. I just don't have the free time I did a year or so ago.

I made a small test video back then, which is by no means optimized, but it could give you some ideas on what to work on.

I wouldn't say it's completely unwatchable--I'll admit that quality was somewhat worse than my normal, but I still think it's somewhat watchable.
Obviously I haven't mastered the game, I was just wondering how a half-hour Too Easy would be possible.
Comments from the test run:
Is it just me, or are you running faster than I was?
Car goal over Help Eric is obvious now, I just thought the car goals were a lot slower than they are, so I avoided them when possible.
I have no idea which of the four goals in chapter 2 is the slowest, since they all look fast.
Awesome time-saver when jumping the bridge Smiley

I'm going to try another THUG stream in a bit, to see if I can improve and get a better idea of a time.

George would care to expand on those multi ollies you are doing, I think ive heard them called buttslaps ?  But ive never found much documentation on them or been able to pull them off. (playing on GC).
9397 = power level
Love THUG 1, I would love to see a run, good luck.
Did another test Too Easy run, got 1:05 (part 1, part 2--no sound on part 1, so fixed it during best trick Wink )

There are still numerous mistakes, big mistakes even (failing the car in chapter 1, accidentally going to manhattan in the team chapter), but I still don't see another half-hour of improvement.

Having done a couple of test runs, i guess i over exaggerated on the whole half an hour thing. It was based on a sick run etimate and then thinking about hoow ridiculously short a lot of the goals are on Too Easy.  I still think around 45 minutes would be possible though.

They are called buttslaps for some random reason. Maybe the funny noise it makes. Basically, they're accomplished by riding off a surface, doing a trick, and mashing ollie over and over. That's basically the only advice I can give you. Make sure you don't start hitting ollie until after starting a trick. They tend to work better with specials. On quarter pipes, you have to level yourself out with spine transfer. I've never played the Gamecube version, but I assume it should work.

There's actually one minor difference in platform that could be noting. On the PS2 version, hitting R2 will stop a grind without doing an ollie. There are a few places where this could make a difference.

Obvious things to keep in mind: Skating switch decreases your stats, which means you go slower. Having special boosts your stats, which means you go faster. You'd be surprised the amount of times you can actually gain time by skitching.

I did a lot of testing back when I was attempting this game. The chapter 2 goals I did should be the fastest options, at least for Sick difficulty. If worse comes to worse, just try them all and time yourself.

If I'm not mistaken, Too Easy has the luxury of never bailing any aerial. Meaning you can do things like Indy 900 on the ground and land it. Keep stuff like that in your mind for scores.

Off the board, I shouldn't be running faster than you.
Good to know that I'm not losing my mind about Too Easy being longer than was thought--45 minutes seems like a fine estimate.  Sorry you're not doing THUG for AGDQ though--THPS3 would be fun though Smiley

About my test runs, THUG isn't my focus--that's why the runs were really rough.  On a somewhat related note, I have my DVD recorder now, and as soon as I get an S-Video cable (it's way too laggy to go direct through the recorder, and I can use the same setup I used from streaming at least to start) I should be able to get a good-quality run of THPS4 onto Youtube (and an encoding test into my tech support topic Wink )--I'll revive that topic when that time comes.
Here's a 1:04 run I did way back in August 2008:

Sorry it took me so long to post this video, but it was only yesterday that I realized you're now allowed to post over 15 minute videos on YouTube ;D. I think I lost a few minutes to mistakes here, but the route/objectives I used were pretty solid, so feel free to use the video as a reference for tips if you're planning a run. I would have kept trying, but I had to give up because I didn't even have the right equipment to meet SDA's quality standards (it's a VHS tape recording).
I watched the run and I must say it's pretty awesome. I think sub 1 hour might be possible if you make combos faster somehow. The run was nearly flawless, excluding few mistakes costing about a minute or two total. I think you should come back to this game if you can, because it would be nice to finally see some good THUG run on SDA. And if you still don't have recording equipement, maybe you should try PC version and play on PS2 controller with USB converter like I do. If your computer is newer than 4 years you should record this game with Fraps no problem.
Sub 1 hour definitely seems doable, I lost at least a few minutes to mistakes on that run. I might get a capture card some day, but I just don't have the extra money right now. I honestly would rather do it on PS2 instead of the inferior PC port, but idk, I might give it a go once I have the time.
The sick run is a sick run!

Would be very cool if you'll improve and submit it someday Smiley
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Very impressive run overall and quite optimized! I loved the dramatic ending on Eric's final line, lol. I was a big fan of all the tricks you employed and you made some of the toughest combo lines in the game look like cake. The long Vancouver tickets one and the final NJ combo always take me many restarts. Like the others say, this can be improved a little bit more just by minimizing mistakes, but with an hour long run on a THPS game, it seems near impossible to do every goal without at least the occasional restart. I hope a THUG run like this gets on SDA someday. Great work!
Cheesy I know, I was nervously failing to get on that wire at the end, but I did it just in time!
