just want to say that my super C speedrun is under verification. The run includes audio commentaries, wow.

I am trying to improve my Contra speedrun. But I just did get another 10:17 run Tongue

Always keep an eye on the news...

I'm looking forward to the commentary Grin

I have to point out that it is my first sudio commentary and it is not in my native language so please, do not excpect mine to be like other audio commentaries.

Edit: And do not except me to sing anything Wink

The only thing I expect from it is being interesting and about the game. At least for a bit Grin

I think it's an emulated run.
Master-88
Maybe.

But i already ask it (when he did 13.50 run) Is his run TAS? but he said its not are TAS. So i believe it is console run and overall this is humanly possible time to reach and firing speed not look TAS.

But i can,t say sure is it TAS.  Roll Eyes

But why you thinking it is TAS run? Yeah i agree this is quite perfect gameplay. But SDA includes some perfect gameplay like your SMB run this look lot TAS.
Hi! I'm andrewg!
I'm PRETTY sure it's at least done on an emulator. Maybe only parts of it, but it still wouldn't be submittable to SDA. The video quality looks like an emulator and the screen edges on an emulator look different than with console runs.

I think it's an emulated run.

I just watched this run and completely agree with AndrewG. The run looks like its played on an emulator for several reasons:

1) Coloring. The coloring is too "perfect" and not NES like which is what emulated runs look like for any NES game.
2) Decreased clipping. Most noticeable in Level 2 (watch this next to Frezy's run and notice the difference in clipping).
3) Awkward width. Most noticeable between stages when you see a bunch of numbers that look like they are slightly stretched out.
4) Quality. Unless this guy has some super sick recording equipment the AV quality of this video is too close to what emulated runs look like.
Hi! I'm andrewg!
Also, in spanish it says he used autofire. on one of his superC viudeos.
Master-88
Ok. We are quite sure it is done with emulator. Maybe this is reason why he didn,t submit runs in SDA.

Runner itself say: No TAS, no cheats only autofire activated.

IMO his firing speed not looks unhuman. It is maybe par with frezyman.
bläää
I have seen a run of this guy before. I think it was another contra run on youtube using an emulator.

- This run does not have as bad LAG as the NES version so this run would not have been faster then my time if he was using an NES.

- I could see how to optimize some of his strategies better.

- He takes some unnecessary risks so I would like to say this run was a lot luckier then mine.

- It looks like even with rapid fire he could not kill the boss on Stage 6 faster then me and VGmr... And Master 88 I think.

I cant tell if he is using save states because everything in the run is probably - in the theory - possible to do on a console.

I asked TheZeth a few months ago about his runs, and he said this:

"Prácticamente no me interesa porque el sitio no es tan visitado como youtube, aparte no son en vivo.

Otro problema es que no domino bien el ingles.Pero si tengo ambos un NES y el emulador, aunque por facilidad de ripiar el vídeo y tener mejor calidad, trabajo mas con el emulador"

My Spanish is rusty, but here's my best English translation:

"I'm not interested in submitting to SDA because the site isn't as popular as YouTube, and SDA isn't live.

The other problem is that I'm not good at English.  But I have both an NES and an emulator, and because the emulator is easier for me to rip videos and get better quality, I work mostly with emulators."

Makes sense if he wants to post on YT rather than SDA.

Autofire is a big advantage in SuperC, specially if it's perfect 30 presses per second. But if that's the only thing the run still is good Smiley

What also easily could shave off seconds is proper slopejumping.

Hello, Im here to make my way into the SDA world.

First I want to say a few things.

1) Frezy_Man... your insain. I mean that in a good way. You are the SDA runner I REALLY REALLY look up to.
Quote from Frezy_man:
I live in a permanent apartment with really bad internet connections which does not always work. ( I use W-LAN, stealing broadband from anyone in the house who does not have a secured net ).

Im in he same boat Smiley

2) Master_88 grats on your very long time worth of play. I just finnished looking threw all 18 pages and you were bout half of them trying to improver your runs. Im impressed with your dedication.

3) Croc-Doc... Im gunning for your run.
Quote from Croc-Doc:
Anyway, you can keep my Contra low% run.  This Super C low% run is what I what on my tombstone.

Sorry... im really looking forward to taking this title from you.

To be honist, after watching your low% run, I wanted to play Super C again. But im without a NES or a Super C to play on. But I am playing on an emulator and am practicing ALOT. I will be asking for some tips though. Im actualy using your run as a guide. So thank you for your run.

My first question, of proly many to come, is about lvl 1. How are you able to walk under the gernade spot where there are 2, Im all set with the spot with 3 but the double one is killing me nearly... well every time if i try to run through it.

Thanks to all whom help me.
Master-88
Welcomed to SDA.

Grenade tip in level 1 is quite easy. You need strarted jumping correct places not too late. Watch video my "perfect" level 1 run carefully where i jumping and etc..

This maybe will help you.
Willing to teach you the impossible
Thanks Master.

That one might take me a while to get... i tried to mimic Frezy_Man's lvl 1 as far as jumping but failed all 30 tries... I will get it though for my run
bläää
Thanks Heidman!

Yes, passing the grenades is about jumping at the right spot. Its about how the screen scrolls upwards I guess. At one special moment the grenade(s) is throwed. I recommend finding a mark in the ground so that you always now exactly were to jump. But random enemies is a big problem in these spots on the first level. Specially for a Low% run. But its not a problem compared to a couple of other random places later in the run.

If you try to beat the low% run you should study my run. I know there is some tricks here and there that can be used. Specially in stage 5. jumping in the right places.
Willing to teach you the impossible
I have been constently watching yours and the current records. looking for places i can improve and mend.

about stage 1, i have figured it out and almost have it perfected, as well as stage 2 and 3. stage 4 is giving me a luck of the draw issue but otherwise smooth. i just started working on stage 5 yesterday. just threw stage 1-4 (timing the stages individually, i have cut aprox 1 min off so far.

Thanks for the suport everyone. im still waiting on the game to come in the mail and i also need a dvd recorder and a NES... work in proggress but I will get this run done and might put up some youtube vids of single stages to be reviewed to further help me.

EDIT: BTW Frezy_Man, when I watched Mega Man X2, I was in aww threw the hole thing. I was VERY VERY impressed. And yes, I look up to you in the speed running world.
bläää
thanks Smiley

wow, I can't see how you can beat the 1-4 levels that fast  Shocked I use to be impressed over how smooth Croc Docs run is. facing the mouths and bubbles and aliens with the pee shooter for this game gives me nightmares.

I haven't seen the run in a while. I guess a lots of your improvements is from not stopping for the Bubbles in early Stage 4?

Also eventually a new strategy for the boss in the jungle? If you stand in the spot that I did use for my Any % run you might be able to kill him faster? I don't have time to try it out right now myself.

After the Bubbles in Stage 4 you should not stop for those falling bombs. you should be able to shot the one above you even with the pee shoter I think. The boss should be possible to kill quicker but it requires tighter and riskier strategy/gameplay and fast fingers.

Stage 5:
Use the downward-slope-glitch that I did in my spread run. It's no big trick in it other the jumping in the downward direction of the platform you want to land. you can easilly shave of a bunch of second here. The boss is improvable too.

Stage 6:
I do not know how fast you can fire but start standing closer to the boss at the start when his second face appear you might be able to kill him quicker. IIRC, impossible to kill him before the snake have looped once but place yourself more to the left or something when he have looped.

Stage 7:
I think this is the most improvable level. You can simply be more aggressive on the first enemies (names? Tongue ) With enough practice you should be able to finnish them while jumping toward them. And you should be able to react and run under the third enemies fire. If you stand close to him he shouldn't be able to kill you. Hopefully random enemies doesn't bother you here

Before reaching the green plasma part you should do an edge jump. Actually there is more place for Edge-jumps in this level. Check all the edges yourself Wink

You should practice specially the alien plants A LOT. You can improve this part A LOT (10-15-20s?) Edge, jumps, better positioning and firing fast and react even quicker. but its very hard. Its one of the most important palces in the game and trickiest.

And if you ignore and avoid those red shots from the boss while keep firing you might save a lots of time. Remember that the only time he actually takes damage is when he is open his mouth. Even if it doesn't sounds like it.

Stage 8:
You can get trough this level without stopping if you plan it enough the fires should not be the problem. The random enemies is the hard part. stopping a little bit or turn around for firing a bullet or two might be necessary in a few spots if the enemies gives you trouble.

I will be interested in any progress. good luck - You'll need it  Grin
Willing to teach you the impossible
Ill see if i can upload my stage 1-4 for you on youtube, so you can see what i am doing different. and i have really improved them alot. ill repost once i get them up, i might have them up later today
Willing to teach you the impossible
ok... I just figured something out. the emulator i was using gave me a big time gap... so i found another one and now im having MUCH closer times.

I still believe im gunna beat the current record. but not by near as much as i was thinking before. Sorry for my earlyer comments.

But I do have a better stage times now. To the current record, i shaved off : Stage 1 - 0:07ish, Stage 2 - 0:05ish, stage 3 - 0:14ish, stage 4 - 0:12ish. for a total of 0:38ish off so far.

Sorry for the false times before. I feel like an ass for that...

Im will be doing a live stream of me pratcing at noon EST. For Frezy that would be about 6pm. If any one wants to watch and help out a lil via giving tips and such, that would be cool. Mainly I am doing this show my routes and strats that i am using.

Here is the link to watch: http://www.livestream.com/heidmanjr

If you really want to see me live but are unable to make it at this time, PM me and ill see if i can work something out to give a live stream at another time.

Also stage 5 and 6 are almost done. 7 is stillin progress... its really tough, and 8 is still not too practiced but i have the strats already figured out for it and have been tested.

Thanks all for you suport
Willing to teach you the impossible
Here are the stages 1 - 4 like I said I was gunna post. REMEMBER, this is done  on an emulator and used a keyboard for controls, Im still waiting on my controler to come in the mail and Im still shoping for an NES as well as a Super C game. I checked threw the SDA fourms and have not revieved a reply form some ppl about them... But I am working on everything that I need.

My stage 1

My stage 2

My stage 3

My stage 4

Feedback and insults welcome. Thanks all

Insults are easy to make for your stage 1 Cheesy
You could have saved time on one of the machine gun turrets popping out of the ground by not ducking to dodge, but jumping and shooting diagonally downwards.
Also: SLOPE JUMPING! You can easily see how the guys behind you come closer when you walk and keep their distance once you jump. Always jump on slopes.

The bossfight in stage 3 also needs improvement. But besides that and the slowdown on that artillery cannon it looks pretty good.
