I've been playing some 007: The World Is Not Enough for PS1 on my PS2. When using fast disc speed, the characters in the game will talk a lot faster (though I think most, if not all, talking sections can be skipped during speedruns) and the music will also sound weird, but I think that's limited to the Bond theme music when you finish a mission.

Since fast disc speed seem to affect the timer in the game and thus making it possible to get lower times, my question is: Should I play without fast disc speed so the music will be played like normal, or should I sacrifice that to get slightly lower times? What does SDA think about this issue? I know this is not the only game with the same "problem".

Thanks.
Thread title:
If the timer is proven to be inaccurate, it would real-timed all the way through, if I'm not mistaken.
You can see the time when you've beaten the level so I don't think the issue is that the timer will be inaccurate. Let's say I get 1:25 on the first level without disc speed set to fast, that will probably be equal to 1:23 with fast disc speed. I guess it has to do with loading times between rooms or something else.

My question is just if SDA will prefer a slightly faster run with screwed up "mission complete" music, or a slightly slower run with normal music.
Any more opinions?

I thought many PS1 games could be beaten slightly faster using fast disc speed, so I never thought that would be the problem, only the music sounding weird..

I highly dislike the fast disc speed option on the ps1, its very hard to use because its so glitchy and its very hard to compare to runs people get using other versions of the game.  I think ps1 fast disc speed should be its own category, but thats just me.

I AM FUCKED ANGRY
PS2's fast disk option

trihex ->
I used it on my Crash Bandicoot 2 speedrun. And I plan to use it on any other PS1 titles I ever want to produce a speedrun of.

The fast disk option is ok. Wink So happy running.

But I warn you, when you for your self manipulate the laser to the back side (modification). I see this and reject every run. The lens manipulation is 'naturally outside the rules of the game as defined by the designersand' (faq). This modification breaks the loading data files.

sda has no rules for this Smiley
Thank you! I definitely don't plan on manipulating the laser since I'm no cheater and not good at that kind of stuff, so don't worry about that. Tongue
