I present:
Wouter Goes Bananas!

File Info: 125MB, 49m:48s

Have you ever seen a movie so bad that it was good? Perhaps you’re a fan of MST3K. Imagine a speed run so bad that watching it causes you to roll on the floor in laughter. Is this guy serious? What’s the matter with him?

This is the case with Wouter Jansen’s DK64 “run.”

Don’t get me wrong, I respect Wouter for his GE accomplishments. He may know how to shoot bullets at Russian soldiers but he sucks at shooting coconuts and peanuts at balloons.

You don’t have to be a fan of DK64 to watch this video – think of it as a speed run satire. Think of it as a 50 minute long blooper clip. I think DK64 is one of the most disappointing titles to ever grace the N64 and watching Wouter attempt to run it fills me with a level of joy that’s difficult to describe.

I heavily recommend watching this with a friend or two. Maybe in ventrilo.

For some background information, download the video – I have an introductory sequence that will fill you in on some details. Something I left out to consider: Wouter claims he played through the game looking for tricks and just to practice before he did this run. He also made several pages of notes, which he showed Brad and me…

As I explain during the credits, I don’t intend for this to be mean-spirited. We’re all friends here…this is more of a heavy ribbing…and a tribute to Wouter’s Dk64 prowess!

Enjoy.

Look for my edit.

Dloading right now.  I better not be disappointed Wink

Edit:  Pretty damn hillarious!  Poor Chunky with his bullseye/kasplat.  Grin

Sniper Shot was awesome, it makes up for the 1000+ missed shots.

Rabbit Race was just horrendous, and the fact that he spent 10 minutes afterwards was just gold.

I understand the Bug race failures, as the bug is probably one of the hardest golden bananas to get (other than the arcade).

What's with the clip at the end, looks like some cheap porno. Wink
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
The more you watch it, the better it is! Watch it to the end!

Just finished downloading. I'll give it a watch.

On another note, welcome back marshmallow! Where did you wonder off to?

I thought that run was beautiful.. Loved the treadmill part. Wouter is definitily the MAN! heheh

Well, I never went anywhere...and I still make posts every once in awhile. It's just that I've done a speed run for pretty much every game I own and I don't feel like competing with people who beat my times (aka a bunch of people).

The next big thing you'll see from me will probably be my Counter-Strike movie, whenever THAT comes out.
Jack of all Trades
My personal favorite clips involve him shooting, flying with Diddy's rocketbarrel boost, or anything with Chunky.

I'm sorta confused how he is so bad with Diddy's flying...I mean, I remember it being pretty easy. He pulls off moves I didn't even know were possible (gogo backward flying corkscrews).

As for Chunky, well, he has the best noises. RAWR! WHEW-HEW!

The BEST clip IMHO is Chunky humping the igloo in Crystal Caves. It makes my cheeks hurt...if I'm ever feeling depressed I can look at this clip and feel better.
He's back!
Marshmallow you forget his run was a PAL run and it wasn't beaten by 5 hours, it was only beaten by about 50 mins in real money. I watched bits of it, did the verifiers have to watch all that in its entirety. I think you should do that for the SM64 120 star run when someone eventually gets a SUB 2:15 for it.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
It was not beaten by about 50 minutes. You're not even remotely close in this estimate. I don't see how you can take a 5 hour difference and call it 50 minutes because of PAL.

If my calculations are correct, it should be about 4 hours faster with the PAL-NTSC conversion, if this game does in fact run slower than NTSC.
Visually Appealing
throughout the movie, i felt Wouter's pain. especially the cannon target thing. that thing was a bitch.

and i was on the floor when the Enguarde part started.
Speed is the key.
That was one of the funniest things I have ever watched in my entire life.
Visually Appealing
what makes it funny, i think, is that this is something we all can relate to. if you've played DK64 (not speedrun it, just casual play) you've probably done at least one of the things Wouter did. there has probably been one part in the video that made you shout "Hey, that happened to me!" I know I fell victim to those treadmills numerous times.

Right, Brad and I got to verify it as it says in the introduction. When you verify a game you have to watch it all and make sure 1) there's no cheats or underhanded things going on 2) all the parts of the game were done (i.e. no missing segments) 3) the run is actually, y'know, good. Wouter's DK64 run failed spectacularly on the last point.

We watched all 14 years--er, hours of it...TWICE (once for verifying and one recently, where we got the idea to make this movie and so we could write down the times of the clips). I wouldn't wish this on my enemy...but you can go to archive.org and download it if you want. Most of his slowness comes from the fact he'll run around the level lost doing random things for 20-25 mins before pausing and looking at his notes.

As for shooting in DK64, you're right, it did suck. But Wouter doesn't seem to understand anything. I mean, you should try to position yourself so the balloon is coming at you...the way he does it just...no. Not even close. Oh yeah, and it seems to take him awhile to understand in the cannon thing with Chunky that A) the cannonball takes a couple secs to reach the target B) there's a timelimit and C) the cannonball falls as it moves through the air. Most of his shots make ZERO sense...like shooting into the water and shooting when it's pretty obvious it won't hit the target.

I'm glad people are enjoying this. Cheesy I hope Wouter takes it OK...
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
This is some funny shit

Give a hand to Pip everyone...he was the voice talent in the intro. I'm telling you, he's the next Mel Blanc! Plus, he's not too shabby at CS...

Man, seriously, this was one of the most hilarious vids i've EVER watched. On the part when he jumped onto nothing in the Jack in the Box fight, i was literally dying Grin And there were many more parts like this...
Great release marsh, really great one. There are no more words for this.

Well, marsh was looking for some random clips to throw in at the end. I have a large collection of clips from various pornography's that are hilarious, random, and just stupid. So, I chose this one. It doesn't serve much purpose. But I'd say it's a nice way to end such a glorious movie.
welcome to the machine
Haha, this is hilarious.  Thanks marsh. Tongue

And was the thing Enguarde had to hit in the same place each time?
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Yes, the star is in the same spot and you must hit it 3 times to open a door.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Thats not really a speed run was it? Cause I've never even played the game and I knew what he was supposed to do at some stages, yet he didn't seem to?

According to marsh he tried to submit it, only he didn't pass the verification...
