#speedrunslive to race games!!!

Watch these videos to see most of the current tricks;
Mickeyjunk Mountain early (found by Pokey) :http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/11858865
Run through Mickeyjunk Mountain (game time :56 minutes but has many deaths):http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/11900287

Since Christmas Pokey (holder of the SDA OOT record) and I have been trying to break Epic Mickey, which is a great game. I just beat it and I think we can get the time down under 2:45 easy, maybe sub 2:30 with some luck. I am hoping on doing a segmented run sometime relatively soon (I don't have anywhere close to the time to do a single segment run). We already have found quite a few tricks, I found a lot of text skips in the beginning of the game and made the route. And Pokey found the clip through the Ostown gate into Mickeyjunk Mountain (saves about 2 minutes). I have spent a lot of time on the route and its probably not perfect but here are some of my comments on specific glitches and my route.

15 power sparks: I spent a lot of time looking through my hardcover guide (which is a huge help) and I believe I found the fastest 15 power sparks possible to collect, although there might be some more power sparks just waiting to be collected that I don't know about since the guide does not tell you where these are (such as the one on top of mickeys house). When I do my test run I will see how much money can easily be gotten using the route which effects how many are bought, but it should be pretty easy to get money since if you spin a box/ticket Holder it will follow you after it appears.

Mickeyjunk Mountain early: This isn't a huge skip, but Pokey found it relatively easy and hopefully there are other areas like this in the game. We are not exactly sure how this works yet, although to do it I center the camera towards the crack and jump with mickey facing different directions, I can usually get it within a minute now, and this will be the start of a segment in the segmented run to insure getting it quickly.

Fighting the Blot skip: This trick I “found” while browsing the Gamefaqs forum (gamefaqs.com/xxx), and it is this biggest skip we have so far (although I have not performed it yet). To perform the glitch you need to ignore the pirate spawning machine before Hook (which a speedrun would do anyway), and then later in the game after beating the mad doctor in the haunted mansion area, you come back to mean street and get the quest to go talk to Oswald again at the top of Mickeyjunk Mountain. If at that point you go back into Ventureland/?Bog Easy? and complete some quests (testing will need to be done to know exactly what needs to be done to trigger it) when you go back to mean street the “Battle for Mean Street” quest will be active and the Bloticle will be in the center of town. After killing the Bloticle you can continue the game from that point (although if you try going to Ostown you will get stuck in “Thru the mirror” forever since the game crashes as you go to Ostown, and the game autosaved in the mirror stage). This probably saves about 5-10 minutes (going through a couple 2d levels and Ostown/talking to Oswald, the battle in Ostown quest, and most importantly fighting the blot which is a long/boring/tedious/ and annoying fight).

2d levels: Under all the 2d levels in my route i put “best time:” This is because I’ll be timing myself during practice to see how fast I can beat them for my reference. I will also put the best time overall next to mine if somebody has a faster time than me (and that persons name). However all the levels should be timed like this for consistency. Start the timer when Mickey is gone after jumping into the entry screen, and stop time when he jumps into the exit screen.

Let me know if you have any suggestions for my route or any help finding glitches. I am also open to racing Epic Mickey on #speedrunslive as it is good practice (although I am really busy right now, so we will probably need to set up a date). Also I know the game autosaves all the time which will make segmenting difficult, but what I can do is after each segment is copy the save to an SD card and then before every attempt replace the save. It’s a bit tedious but it should work.
Thread title:
Obscure games ftw
Well, that wall of text was pretty useful.
I really don't have anything to add other than good luck, and that on a blind playthrough I ended up with a time of 9:01, and I'm guessing you already know about the 'thin the blocks' text skip in Dark Beauty Castle (accomplished by using the banisters to climb)
#speedrunslive to race games!!!
I'm almost ready to order my dazzle and start recording, but the one thing stopping me is not being able to figure out how the battle of mean street glitch works (which would let me skip 5-10 minutes), i have posted multiple times on gamefaqs and not received any help, so i am posting here in hopes that someone has encountered this glitch and can help me.

this is my most recent thread on gamefaqs.

"I have asked this before although I have never gotten an answer that seems to work. I am working on a speedrun of this game, and the last thing I need before I start recording segments is to figure out how the Battle of Mean Street glitch works (described in this topic http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/975515-disney-epic-mickey/57736451), because it would allow me to skip 5-10 minutes of the game along with an annoying boss. every time I do what the thread says, it doesn't work.

here is a summary of my playthrough.
-whatever until ventureland
-give ice cream to the fat pirate
-complete ventureland while ignoring the machines completely
-go beat up the mad doctor after going through lonesome manor
-go back into mean street.
-talk to oswald to get the "oswald needs help quest"
-go through the ventureland projector
-enter ventureland
-go back through the ventureland projector to enter mean street
-i should be in the battle of mean street quest, but i am not.

any help? do i need to complete a quest in ventureland, or maybe enter ventureland before getting the oswald needs help quest? thanks to anyone who can assist me"

this is actually a really neat game to speedrun and hopefully i can get this to work.
here's hoping you get it figured out. i'd love to see a run of this game!thumbsup
I'm just starting out running this game, is there anyone that made any progress on this, or did it just fall by the way side?
Does anyone run this anymore? I was wanting to look into it a bit, but I cant find out anything on it other than this
Anybody still curious about the Shadow Blot skip, you finish lonesome manor, I did I organ so the ghosts left, I talk to the guy at the shack who gives a quest to restore the town bell. Then, go to mean street to get the Help Oswald quest, them go to the ventureland store, and the bell is available for 300 tickets. After you buy the bell, the glitch is activated. When you go to mean street you will be in Battle for Mean Street. You continue as normal
After watching lots of AGDQ videos on youtube I got really into speedrunning by myself. Picked up my Epic Mickey and had a lot of fun trying to break it in several ways.. This shadow blot skip sounds pretty effective!
If someone is still playing this game please give me a type and we can exchange skype or steam acc.
I am finding lots of useful textskips that add up.

I've decided to give this game a shot, as well as continuing to run Epic Mickey 2 any% on PC.  I did some testing in Dolphin and did a partial test run on a Wii, from the start of the game up until jumping into the Plutopia projector for Tomorrow City, and got a time of about 1h5m.  This can come down to sub-1 easily, as I had a few deaths and completely forgot what to do on my second trip to Mean Street, but still, I think it's a decent run for a first time.  Mickeyjunk Mountain early also took a while to do.

aka theenglishman
I did another test from the start of the game to entering the Tomorrow City projector, and got 0:53 on the in-game timer.  The only major mistake was losing my bearings in Mickeyjunk Mountain, so sub-50 at Tomorrow City would, I think, be considered a good single-segment time.
aka theenglishman
I did another test run, this time up to entering Bog Easy, and got 1:59.  It was a pretty solid run although I forgot where to go in a few places.  I'm guessing 1:50 is a good goal for Bog Easy in the near future.
aka theenglishman
Another test run, which should be processed in a few hours:

AH YES! I love it! Im so hype for speedrunning this again now, just need the damn recorder..

In the beginning at the circus boats where you "damage boost" (as i call it) over the water to skip the big hippo cutscene, you can continue the boost jumping one more time, but before doing that you need to create a ledge on the painted wall, with thinner, shaped as an upside down V letter that you can land on and continue jump to the next platform (without touching the goo since u should have 1 hp by now) instead of taking the safe way inside.

In drawf city (or whatever, I play the swedish version so I haven't learned all names yet) why don't you take the path that gets you a +100 golden ticket + you warp to the other Paris World enter. The strat you are using requires an extra 2d level. Also it feels like you are detouring alot to get extra tickets which I don't really think that you need..

The first oswald statue cutscene can be skipped aswell by cutting the right corner of the stairs, saves seconds.

the 38:24 dwarf is fastest rescued by damage boosting all the way from the start over the goo (4 times) with double jump + spin , you barely make it. then rescue him, watch the cutscene, then jump into the goo with 1 hp left to die and respawn at the start which is faster i think. (again you take another detour for more tickets)

watched until 45:00, taking a break. good job!
@ 48:00 - "Trolly's Trouble"
Waiting for the trolly is a big time-waste, you can just run through the entire level. There is one gap that is difficult but can be jumped..

@ 52:00 & 55:00ish - The pie quest is not included in my speedrun, neither is Horaces Missing Book. Although I don't know which one of my sparks that you replaced with these 2 quests.

@ 58:15 This level is one of the shorter ones. The difference in my route is I only use the 2 bottom platforms, and also I don't paint the second one, just jump ontop of it in its starting position then straight to the painted roof to rescue the dwarf.

@ 1:00:50 I skip the first enemy cutscene by going RIGHT at the start, then go straight to Damage Boosting up to the 2nd floor by the waterfall goo, then rescue the dwarf.

@ 1:02:50 I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE SLOBBER INSTA-DEATH!? Was that because of the useless green dots flying around???????? :O
aka theenglishman
The "green dots" are Guardians (you shake the Nunchuk to use them).  They can one-hit kill any Blotling enemy, and Slobbers take two hits.  I didn't know about your route changes, thanks!  I'll look into those.
Just got this and will start looking into possible OOBs.
aka theenglishman
zero, if you want to do serious testing I suggest using Dolphin.  This game autosaves EVERYWHERE, and unless you're incredibly patient you likely won't be able to test that much on console.
I don't play emulators or even have the capability to run them but it's all good. I'm just running through now getting used to each area then I'll replay and start looking seriously.

I just did this one today. Not sure if this is consistent or if you guys have got a better way but here's what I did.

I did what you said and positioned the camera above Mickey looking down, then all I did was move forward while doing small hops, no full jumps, just tapped the jump button 3 times in row and Mickey just walked through on the third hop. As I was hopping the camera moved down to its original position behind Mickey and he passed through around that point.

This wasn't done on the first try. I was moving and jumping all over the place at first, even somehow died from jumping up and touching that purple light. But when it did work it was in a single try. I stopped, faced the crack and used the above method and it worked in a few seconds.
aka theenglishman
My method involves facing the drawbridge itself and walking forward into it.  The bunnyhops and melee sometimes help as well, but there's a chance the camera will go crazy and cause you to fall into the thinner.

I'm getting semi-consistent at the Trolley Trouble skip.

www.twitch.tv/amvx
twitch.tv/theenglishman make sure to talk to him, he's been running the game a while.
The trolley trouble skip is pretty easy to do, but it is still a challenge.. the thing is you have to walk off the ledge and keep walking into the air for some time.. tricky.

I have found a almost pete-tronic skip.. can't seem to activate the screen though ._. I'll record it on my phone and upload soon.
I have also found a glitch where you can walk around as you are talking to someone, which can save ALOT of time, imagine walking to the next spot AS you are talking to someone. I even merged a cutscene (the more cartoon like ones) with a normal dialogue with markus..
Thing is I don't know much about it yet, it just happens sometimes but I think I can see some patterns..

Lots of mistakes by englishman. Like the cell key for pirates, you can grab the one above the jail instead of by the water. I don't think the keys are programmed to open one door but more like zelda alttp where every key opens every door.. Maybe another zelda reference xD
