I life in Germany and I have a PAL SNES.
But for speedrunning I would like to buy a NTSC Console.
I would like to know if you can just plug it in instead of the Pal and play (of course PAL games don't fit without an adapter).
Or do i need special controllers, cables or is there something else i have to know for that.
let me know.

afaik, all controllers/cables work with with both NTSC & PAL, except for the power.
for power, you will need an normal ntsc snes power adapter + an 230 to 110 stepdown. i have seen on ebay, these "europe optimized" power adapters for ntsc snes'es, but im not sure if they are good.
also, your tv will need to support ntsc.

this is what i know, but i know a few people here that uses an ntsc snes in europe, so they should be able to tell you more.
Sandbagging
As DJS said the power-adapter is the only thing that has to be different
I use one of those multi-power-adapters on my ntsc snes and it works fine.
Exoray
Also if you're planning on recording something you'd want a DVD recorder that actually supports NTSC recording too (most only support NTSC playback)

So i guess on of these would be okay: http://www.amazon.com/SNES-NES-adapter-supply-Super-Nintendo/dp/B000MFE694/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1326405852&sr=8-2

I probably can read this up somewhere else but which DVD recorder do you recommend?
(my brother has a DVD recorder but I don't know if it supports NTSC maybe i check that out later)

Edit: I feel kind of dumb but I can't find an adapter for a NTSC SNES can link me someone to one (I have PAL, NTSC and Japanese cartridges would be nice if one adapter fits for all)
Fucking Weeaboo
Basically all you really need to do is to break the tabs on the inside of the system.  You can see them behind the cartridge slot.  Then anything will work.

Otherwise, I don't know of an adapter offhand.  I own both a Super Famicom and Super Nintendo system... >_>

Okay I'll get to that when I got one - The most important games for I own on NTSC and PAL ^^
Balls jerky
breaking the tabs only works to play japanese carts on a US console. PAL carts have a curved front and don't fit in the slot at all.

also, i believe pal games need some more modification to work on a ntsc console, due to framerate differences

My Japanese card that I have (Rockman 7) Is shaped exactly like PAL ones... I'm surprised that there's no adapter because for PAL there are like hundreds of them

If I can get Rockman 7 to work on NTsc somehow I would be fine

your japanese rockman 7 should work if you just remove those tabs in the ntsc console

In case you need a reference image for what we mean by "tabs", see attached pic.

Thanks ^^ Looks pretty easy actually but I see how it goes when I finally have one

I just got an adapter instead of removing the "tabs" (cause a friend luckily had one)
and it seems like some PAL games work on it too. And also play on NTSC speed.
I haven't tested that much but for what i can say:
These games work: Mario World, Zelda 3, Megaman X2, Super Metroid, and surprisingly Super Probotector (Contra 3)
Games that don't work: Kirby's Funpak (Superstar), Tetris Attack, Terranigma

Interesting, I don't think that Zelda works on my Super Famicom. Maybe the adapter removes the region lockout? There are some games who also check for the frequency, so that would explain why not all games work.
The enemies in Zelda will be faster at 60Hz than in the NTSC version as it's got some PAL adjustments. Super Mario World should be exactly the same, don't know about the other games. For speedrunning you should use the NTSC originals.

Good to now.  The games I speedrun i own in NTSC.
But for races it's pretty cool Wink
