SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
I was going to wait a bit to post a 2nd bounty, but considering the timing, I don't have much choice at the moment...

It goes without saying that No more heroes 2 is a great game and how everyone is enjoying it, but one thing has been bugging me... WHY IS THERE NO SPEED RUN OF THE ORIGINAL NO MORE HEROES!?!

The only person who has been able to put together a reasonable run was Satoryu, and his run was sadly rejected...  So considering that we are long overdue for a speed run of this game, I hereby post  my 2nd bounty for No more heroes!

Rules are simple... We will be using Satoryu's rejected run as the barline... His run was about 102 minutes long, and so this run would need to be under 1:42 (the final time doesn't matter, but has to be a better time of course, set the bar perhaps at sub 1:40 I guess)  You can do a new game run if you want, but we are focusing on the NG+ here...  First person who gets an accepted run will get the $20 bounty...

However, if an unlikely situation where I am the first one to get the accepted run, the bounty will be called off, even if you get a better run verified the very next day... So yea... this bounty will be set at the same time as my last bounty...  Either July 2010 or if I'm the first one...

Will anyone raise up to get this classic added to the SDA?
Will Satoryu attempt a 2nd run? Or
Will I step up to get this game placed on?

If anyone cares to participate, the race is on...

Hi, would like to add a $5 bounty on an SS or IL run of Toki Tori, it is a puzzle game not too complex on controls. Anyone with runs under their belt that is interested I can gift them the game instead (but you better complete the run!). Deadline: 2011

I'd like to point out that szsk's run that was posted today meets this condition.  I know Prognosis_4 hasn't been around for a couple months, but if anybody here knows how to get a hold of him you should let him know.  It'd be a shame if this one went unpaid.

Complete. Global. Saturation.
I've also contacted FreakZilla about the Diablo II bounty, which expired before the run was submitted, but he's going to pay it out anyway because it was a great run.
He was also waiting to see if Sykio's Sorc run would beat it, but since it has gone a lot of a time without update, he's going to track down the submitter of the sub-one hour submission and give it to him instead.
Angered Me, You have!
I was gonna request that you removed my 400 dollars bounty for Metroid Prime but it seems that you have removed it already. Anyway, Dolphin is soon (ish) done for tasing so we will in the near future probably see a sub :58ish run. Good day.
Break through the final confusion
After experiencing the greatness of the live SDA marathon (great job, guys!), I feel like giving something back to the SDA community... what better way to do it than post some bounties! I've been wanting to, and the time seems right...

First off, to quote MAS8705:

Quote from MAS8705:

I agree with those sentiments entirely - so much so that I'll add an extra $20 to the bounty. It'll be the same criteria as MAS8705's bounty: under 1:42, verified and accepted by SDA. Just two differences: (1) MAS8705, I guess if you go ahead and win the bounty, you can still get these $20! (2) This is due end of 2010.

Now, when I was thinking of what run I'd like to see up on SDA, I realized the choice was extremely easy: Cave Story. WHERE THE HELL IS CAVE STORY?!?! To say Speed Demos Archive is the source of ultra skilled videogame speed-running (that definition including freeware games now) and NOT have a Cave Story speedrun is shameful to this Cave Story, this website, and, heck, pretty much everyone and everything. This MUST be addressed.

Is anyone even working on this game? Either way, no matter, hopefully these will get the ball rolling (and hopefully get others to add to the bounties as well).

Anyway (this is a little complicated, so bear with me), I'm offering:

1) $20 for an any% SS run from the start through the Hard path ("Hell"). We're looking for the fastest possible SS run through the game. Should pick up Nikumaru counter. No specific time limit, but SDA verification will tell whether or not it's close enough to optimal.

2) $10 for a segmented version of (1) above. We're looking for the fastest possible segmented run here. Should pick up Nikumaru counter. Hell run must be under 3:00 (to get the "best ending" - or best title screen, as the case may be). Not sure what the official/unofficial/whatever world record is but segments should be as close to optimal as realistically possible (especially Hell!) - I guess the I trust the verification process at SDA to determine if a time is good enough.

3) $5 for just the Best Hell any% time (from the Prefab building save to the end of Hell - essentially, fastest Nikumaru counter time). This is different from (2) because the best weapons to beat Hell quickly may not be the same as the best weapons to beat the rest of the game quickly. Obviously should have the Nikumaru counter, and falls under the same requirements as (2): must beat 3:00, and must be as close to optimal as realistically possible. Again, SDA verification will be the judge here.

4) $20 for a low% (basically only the items you're forced to pick up, e.g: 3 Hearts, only Polar Star, Fireball, and Blade, etc.) segmented run from the start through the Hard path. We're looking for the fastest possible segmented low% run through the game here. Even though it's a low%, should get Nikumaru counter to make timing Hell easier. I'm not sure what a "good" or "realistic" time is for the Hell part, so let's just set a soft limit of 4:00 and let SDA verification do the rest.

5) $50 for an SS of (4) above. Low% SS run through the whole game. Remove time restriction on Hell, and I suppose picking up Nikumaru counter is not required (but can still be picked up if the runner so chooses). Possible? You guys tell me!

Additional requirements on all of these:
- They should be on the PC version, not the WiiWare version (when/if that EVER comes out...), simply because I've heard there's going to be differences. If after it comes out it turns out that there's a way to make it play IDENTICAL to the PC version, then we can talk and perhaps allow the WiiWare version as well.
- Obviously, must be verified and accepted by SDA to get the bounty. These are first-come, first-serve (by SDA verification date).
- These are all due by end of 2010.

Let me know if you have questions! I guess we should discuss the low% requirements in a different thread if need be.

As for competition from me, haha, no no no... I'm lagging ridiculously far behind on my Crystalis run as it is... Sad

I noticed that on the list there's a Star Fox 64 (NTSC) - Any% sub-0:25:30 by Psonar.  Since that run is done, I wonder if he's paid out so it can be removed?

Psonar only seems to show up once every four months, so we might have to wait a while before we get an answer.

Nono, the final time will be the time for the full length of the run. The last save isn't the end, it's just the easiest way for me to assign a goal that I know is a good time. Under 9 hours for finishing everything is an incredible time, so I'm giving a bonus if they do that too.

Wow, I never thought speedrunning FFVII would actually pay off. I'll have this run done by Feb 16th next year (maybe sooner with some luck), and the final time will be sub-8 hours.

First Bounty:  A while back, I "attempted" a speed run of Muramasa: The Demon Blade on the wii and got a time of 2 hours and 22 minutes... The run was rejected since it was very disorganized and alot of other things that I would perfer not to talk about, but moving along...  This first bounty is simple...

A $20 Bounty for Muramasa: The Demon Blade... You are use either of the two characters, but the main catch is that the run needs to be under 2 hours...

That's right under 2 hours!

If you submit a run and it is over two hours, it will be a judgement call and the bounty will be reduced to just $10, but considering that a 22+ minute improvement is possible, I have no worries about that...  As for a due date, I will set it to July 2010... That will leave a good 6 months to plan the run and perform it...

To clarify, can the run for this bounty be segmented?

Of course it can be segmented... In my failed run, I used segments and it would be unfair if the bounty wouldn't allow that...

Great initiative! However, may I make some suggestions?

1) The current PC run (7:41) would clock at 8:25 (final time) if it had been done on the PSX [US/NTSC] version. If part of the bounty is intended to spur a better run than the current PC run you might want to adjust your limits downwards.

2) It generally takes less than 15minutes to beat the game from the final save (when speedrunning), so if the last bonus bounty at 25 USD is meant as a bonanza you might want to adjust the limit for that one down even further.

This might be what you're looking for:
  • +75 USD for 8:25* or below (i.e at least tie with the current PC run. After all, longer loading times do make things more tedious).
  • +01 USD per minute under 8:25*, at max +25 USD (8:00*).
  • +25 USD for 7:55* or below (i.e an additional 5min improvement over 8:00, very hard).

*final time (entire run)

But of course, all this would depend on your intentions with the bounty.

3) Also. Something of great importance to note is the fact that differences exist between the different PSX versions.

[US/NTSC] final time + (0m 00s) = [US/NTSC] final time
[PAL] final time + (5m 46s) = [US/NTSC] final time
[J/NTSC] final time + (8m 00s) = [US/NTSC] final time

So you might want to specify that the run either be done on the US/NTSC version or that PAL and J/NTSC version runs will have their final times adjusted accordingly.

My two cents Smiley

I'll have a longer think about this but my times were based on what garland said in the FFVII thread. I don't know enough about the difference betweeen the PC and PS1 versions make the comparisons about final times. I may adjust these in the future if this is the case. I was under the impression that the PC version was a great deal faster and that anything near 8 hours on PS1 for that save was near impossible.
I will knock you all down!
I agree with BrutalAl. 9 hours really isn't a good time. If I wanted to, I could finish my run with a final time of less than 9 hours today. My final time will be under 8 hours (currently estimated at 7:52), so if anyone submits a run with a higher time than 8 hours in the meantime, it will be rendered obsolete once I'm done.
