everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
We have older BoF threads, so this new one which is for the whole series is a bad idea. I will probably lock it when your question gets fully answered. But it's ok for now since there hasn't been any BoF talk in forever. With each passing year, there are likely to be less interested people since this series is probably dead. (capcom just milks series right right??)

DavidK5 (of the-elite fame) made several BoF3 runs with vids. I have the latest one (AFAIK), which is in 8:41. I kept on asking him to submit it, but he never did. BTW, BoF3 running is pretty optimized. You can check gamefaqs, that is where they hang out, but I haven't been there in forever.

I have been promising a BoF5 run for forever. I promise I will eventually do it. Other people are interested too. If I do not finish it by 2008 calendar year (which I am vowing to do), I will support anyone else who wants to do it.

I don't know times for the other games since they are not on Ultima Garden. Dragondarch wants to do runs of BoF1 and 2, and there was an old 2 thread with some stuff. Also, Atma (IIRC) made a TAS but never submitted it, because he figured the tasvideos mob would reject it based on the game not being Final Fantasy.

I haven't heard anything about 4, but only heathens who don't really like the series, like that game more than the others.

THE GAME!!
Ok, i'll try and find the older thread. Doing a BoF5 run!? Wow, Good Luck. That game's pretty hard!

What if I made this thread for BoFIII?
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
Good idea.

Here is an older one with DavidK5's notes even.

Since I found it, here is the old BoF2 thread btw. I'm sure I don't remember a damn thing I said in it. Tongue
There's a word for that
I have the video DavidK5 made for this downloaded (interesting story behind that actually, I originally started downloading the old 10:03 run and it stopped part way through, turns out he had deleted it and was starting to upload his new run at that very moment), and it goes for just over 10 hours... and I'm pretty sure he didn't lose all that time in the saving and loading screens >_>; (no, it's not the 10:03 run, I checked). So yeah, not to take anything away from the run, but the timing is whack.
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
A lot of RPGs are like that, it's totally normal. They will stop the timer for cutscenes maybe, stuff like that. As long as it's consistent, we still use it.

THE GAME!!
Would the PAL version be slower? I own the PAL version and I have yet to see proper NTSC videos of BoF3.

Yes, the PAL version will be much slower (I also own it). You really, really don't want to do it on PAL, for our sanity as much as yours.

I know it sucks. Smiley

Also, Enhasa, do BoF5! I love everything about that game except, uh... the game. Seriously, the atmosphere, the music, the setting, it's great... just, the systems SUCK.

Maybe watch for yourself and see if it looks faster. (BTW he is running on PS2. If you ran on PS1 or PS3, you would see differences in loading times, I'm not talking about that.)

*Sigh* Maybe one of these days i'll give it a go and see how much it pisses me off. Tongue

Not only do I think the systems don't suck, BoF5 is the only RPG with actually really good balance. It's so perfect it's beautiful. When the dumb "games as art" crowd lists games, they always base it purely on graphics (even without realizing). I think BoF5 is much more artful than any game that gets mentioned, just for the gameplay.

Seriously, for me BoF5 gameplay crushes all other RPGs. I'm trying to guess what aspect of it you didn't like, and of course it is a very love/hate game to begin with, so I know lots of people dislike it.

Breath of Fire V is alright, I just found it really hard!! Plus, I prefer the battle systems with the older installments.

Ok....the PAL version IS a lot slower (BoF3). I guess it can't go under 10 hours. Sad

Hurray to my linked thread. As for why David never submitted, maybe he thought he could do better before submitting? That's what I think at least.

His url got removed so his videos are now available here as of 1/22/08, including his last speedrun attempt.

Enhasa I'll hold you to that BoF5 run. I want to see at least 1 BoF game speedrunned.
100% runs=great to watch
BoFDQ is pretty much destined for SDA by design methinks.

Otherwise, good luck to all on any BoF runs.  And for the umpteenth time, I KNOW there is a TAS of sorts for BoF 1 out there somewhere because I remember watching it as a means to finally see the whole game and such past some part that I got crazy stuck on as a kid  (think it was the bird folk part where I just reset if I was about to lose that boss fight)

Trying to figure out where you mean out of curiosity. Windia is pretty early on in BOF1.

There are at least 5-6 people that would run it, so no worries.

Yeah, it was with a princess of sorts with 2 bodyguards while the prior-to-then main character is asleep/laid up.  I never did think all that time ago that you were SUPPOSED to lose that boss fight and such....resulting in many failed grinding attempts, blowing through all my items, etc.  Plus I never knew even "basic" things back then like you can use the Earth Key for an Item attack.

BoF II  and all others I have absolutely zero real experience with....though i do posit that II has a fair shot due to my vague recollections of Items being REALLY abusable at times.
Long live SF64!
Ah, the memories....

Anyone who didn't get stuck with Nina and the 2 soldiers not realizing the E-Key was a weapon hasn't truly experienced BoF.

I've said it in the BoF II thread when I first joined SDA, but I'll say it again - BoF was my first RPG and holds a special place in my heart.  I whole-heartedly support anyone willing to work on the BoF games.

I only played BoF1 last year, but it too is special to me, along with Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. The fast pace drew me in, particularly. The E-key was one of my favourite weapons and I was still using it by the end of the game, lol.

Breath of Fire is still one of my favorite games and I would love to speedrun it, however I don't have the actual game, just an emulator. I will be doing a playthrough of it though for Youtube eventually.

BoF2 I CAN do if I can find my old SNES and stuff, or if I get it on the VC.

BoF3...yeah I said I would but I can't cause I don't play BoF3 like that >_>

BoF4, don't have. Same with DQ.
THE GAME!!
At this time I only own BoFII (VC) and BoFIII (PS1). I haven't completed either yet.
Pudding%
I'm still planning on hitting up the BoF series at some point...probably starting with BoF II since that and III are the ones I have the most experience with (that, and II I already had a semi-plan of what would be done where)...

Breath of Fire IV Speedrun (not done by me):

Well, there ya go. I had no idea someone was doing this.

Ha, wow, I'll have to watch this now... this looks like the PC version, yes? It'll be very interesting to see what this guy does, since I've messed around with some speed-type tactics myself for this game, and anything at around 7 hours would be very impressive (unless the timing is wrong...). I found that leveling wasn't necessary until Won-qu (blue dog thing guarding Fou-Lu's tomb, where the game finally decides to get hard Sad ), where I thought of going to power-level on those bots that you can max out exp on via combos.
