//Here is a link for the old thread in Newer Consoles. Thanks Greenalink, LigerOfFortune, and 0range for your findings!//

Seems as if this game has been abandoned in the Newer Console section, so I'm starting this here because I play on the PC (as with most of my game collection). I bought it on D2D before it went under but it has taken me this long to get into it hahaha. I've been practicing it actually for the past few days now. Because this can be a very short game my desire to play the levels over and over is working out great. The only level I can see being the most difficult / giving me the most trouble is going to be Albatross. Normal difficulty is currently on my mind, but I wouldn't outright reject the idea of a Super Hard run...although I foresee that causing me massive rage.

The gas and lightning room skips work in the PC version, confirmed that today. Also right now I am practicing the powerclaw barrier skip and I am thinking that to get the skip it is entirely dependent on the position of the claw in the barrier. I haven't practiced the area 12 laser wall skips yet. Because I am playing on the PC version there is no invincibility glitch that I am aware of, so enemy bullets will have to suffice (I bet that glitch would work if the game had Games for Windows Live lol).

Or I could be wrong about the position theory, I'm just trying to think this can't be a random occurrence. When standing still in front of it, shooting out the claw doesn't always put it in the same spot each time so for moving it I just hit arm then down and arm again until I think the location is good.

While messing around I found a couple of funny OoB spots, no relation to speed running the game though. Couple more screens of my claw's position on it:

EDIT: All of my practice with that skip thus far has actually been on the barrier that requires the Bazooka. It would seem that the Area 3 barrier is acting a whole lot different. I can't get it as frequently as I can in Area 6.. Shocked

Yay for pointless OoB!

This Area 3 one I found on YouTube

While in Area 8 I discovered it on my own. See the shadow outside the ceiling above the elevator? ^_^

This just in! URGENT DISCOVERY!!! I have figured out the exact conditions to do the powerclaw barrier skip and they are 1. frame rate and 2. position. I decided to start recording a video of my attempts at 30 fps and....I could get the skip very very consistantly, wtf lol.

30FPS:

I've attached the 60FPS raw video file to this post if anyone doesn't want to see it at YouTube's 30FPS cap.

EDIT: Wait a sec ignore this because the method I used to compress the FRAPS raw file limited it to 24FPS, doh.

EDIT2: Because attaching files can only be done on new posts, I have to upload to a third party source. I have re-encoded with different settings, but I am leaving the YouTube uploads alone.

Discovered an interesting bug where if you stand in front of a door and push up and start at nearly the same time the game will freeze on the other side of the door. You can pause / unpause to fix it. Trying to see if this can do anything useful.
Terraffirmative!
Good to see this game get some love again, it's been on my list of games I'd like to work on at some point but will probably never get to. Out of curiosity, does the PC version have the patch that changed the swing physics and such or not? I've got a copy of this game for PC still....somewhere, be nice to know if it'd be the better version than the 360 one at this point.
I haven't noticed any changes in physics, was I supposed to? Btw, because I own the D2D version I might be missing out on some fixes. I applied the 1.00 -> 1.01 patch but all I noticed it doing was giving Joe's Machinegun infinite ammo (talk about broken..). Maybe the Steam version is better, but I won't be able to find out because I'm too poor to even afford $10 right now.
Boom
Yes they removed the Albatross room B (swinging platforms) from consoles for difficulty easy and normal.

KennyMan666 I think has it right. The in game timer does not count the map or the truck missions. I also think that when you die and respawn at a check point it reverts the times back as well.

BIG note
I am able to skip any / all trucks on the map!

It is simple trick of loading into the truck mission and quickly (timing doesn't matter) pressing start and returning to main menu. Then quickly load back into game and the truck will be gone/de spawned. (This entire process takes me about 4-6 seconds if I click fast enough)

HOWEVER! If you go into an Area mission and 'Call for extraction' the trucks you skipped/de spawned will return.

They do NOT return if you complete a mission.

Still finding out more on this issue/bug.

Posting this anyway even though I do not think anyone is still reading these.

If you are reading this please post your times on PB Tracker!

I believe that truck skip was found a few years ago.  I remember reading about that in one of the BC:R threads.  I'm not sure why it hasn't been used in speed runs, but it has been known for awhile.  I definitely would recommend taking advantage of it (especially on Steam version with low load times).

Because of the wonky in-game time and truck skips via reloads, I would recommend using real time to time all future runs.
Boom
I had a feeling that truck skip was not new but I also have not seen it used in speed runs.

I have live split set up for this and working on any% run.

If anyone has any more info on the power claw skip in Area 3 please let me know its driving me insane with a 1/1000 chance.

The power claw skip has been bothering me too.  I'm using the Steam version and still haven't gotten it once.  I tried a bunch of other methods for skipping the barrier and got close, but none of them made it through.
Boom
I too am using the steam version and I only got the skip once and could not reproduce it. It took way to long and was not worth it.  I almost managed to swing under it but it still knocked me back.
Boom
Just posting some progress on Area 10.  Here is a link

Was able to record a good run with a ingame time of 1:58. That run starts at 2:50 in the video.

The power claw skip is more consistent when running the game at 30 frames Sad

The Steam version is pretty much the Console's V1.0

The console version released a patch in 2009 and has significant changes to the game.
This doesn't apply to harder difficulties.

Edit: BagtheTea already mentioned the Albatross room B example.

Quote:
When you die, you respawn at the last solid ground or checkpoint
The level Albatross B (series of temporary platforms) was cut, the biggest difference in a speed run.
The ability to reel out the cable when hanging or swinging to its full length
If the player swings into a wall, they will no longer disconnect and be thrown away from the wall. Instead, they will keep connected and reel in
Unlimited lives (still limited on Hard)
Super Joe Machine Gun bug fix (yep, the upgrade in the vanilla version did absolutely nothing).
When upgraded, the weapon also becomes more powerful in addition to the larger clip
Fixed for all difficulty levels

Without any protection gear, spikes are instant kill.

The secret tunnels 14-17 and 15-18 uses different level design.

So the patch only patched the lower difficulties?  I'm aware the albatross room is still in the hardest difficulty on XBLA, but are all the other changes still in effect (besides the lives you mentioned)?
Boom
Lets see:

Not sure how to reel out the cable. I have tried many different button combinations and stick movement but as far as I can tell you cannot reel out in the steam PC version.

If I swing into a wall I disconnect/bounce.

I feel like the steam version IS the consoles V 1.0
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am going to hook up my PS3 and double check everything (including load times) ill update this once I finish.
DS Dictator
To reel out, you have to press Y on the 360 controller which should be Triangle on the PS3 controller. It only works on both Easy and Normal.
I can't confirm Secret Tunnels on Patched Hard yet because I'm awful in the regular stages against hardcore A.I.

The patched version of the game gives you information of each difficulty right after selecting New Game from the menu.
Boom
Using Live Split (in game timer way off) I clocked a any% run at 28:48. (w/ 2 deaths on albatross)

I have been looking for a world record time and the only thing I can find is from KennyMan666's twitch page ( http://www.twitch.tv/kennyman616 ).
He clocked his run in at 29:49 but I have no idea how out of date this is.  (again not using the games timer) + (He is on the Xbox360 version)

I am still a noob w/ OBS and all this video recording but I do have a video I just need to edit out an hours worth of game play.
