I (L) Mr. Vile
I'm surprised that there still ain't no any% speedrun of Banjo-Kazooie here at SDA, so i'm thinking of doing one myself.

Unfortunatly, I only have the PAL version of this game, which adds quite some minutes to the final time. Also, i cannot start this run until mid September, because my current DVD recorder sucks and I ain't getting a new one until then.

In the mean time, we could discuss the route. I already figured out what the absolute minimum is to complete the game. This includes:

- 94 jiggies (so 6 can be skipped)
- 810 notes (90 can be skipped)
- 40 tokens (termite, croco and bee will be skipped)

I was thinking of skipping the following jiggies:

- Mr Vile jiggy
- Tiptup jiggy
- Eyrie the Eagle jiggy
- Click Clock Wood Jinjo's
- Jiggy at the top of the tree in Click Clock Wood
- Click Clock Wood Grunty Switch Jiggy

I don't know what notes I should skip, but I'm aiming to get 810 notes at the end of Autumn in Click Clock Wood, which allows me to deathwarp out of there.

This run will be a segmented run with deathwarps, savewarping and glitch abusing to get the fastest time possible on the PAL-version. I'm aiming for sub 2 hours in 10 segments.

DK + Mario Kart 8 = <3
then, i think the jiggys skips that you will do is ok but it is hard to do a good route with 810 notes.it is complexe, i wish you good luck(sorry for bad english).

There is a thread about this in the second page http://speeddemosarchive.com/forum/index.php/topic,9803.0.html Wink
But good luck, i'm really looking forward to this!

Yes, i'm already aware of that topic. I've posted a few replies of myself in there. Wink I don't think the current route in there is the fastest however.

A little note. I'm currently busy planning a route, but there is a problem with the segments. Banjo-Kazooie has an autosave option and it saves after collecting a jiggy or when loading a new area. So, if I mess up a certain segment (Grunty's Quiz), I need to restart the entire game or restart the segment with more time on the ingame timer. The question is, how does SDA calculate the time? Real-time or ingame time?
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
The in-game time is used. Unfortunately, this means that segmenting won't provide much of an advantage.
Everything's better with Magitek
You'll be able to use save-warping in a segmented run, though.
I (L) Mr. Vile
Ah ok. Guess I'll have to visit Brentilda a few times then in my run.

Anyway, I'm currently busy with the notes. Should not take that long.
I (L) Mr. Vile
Skipped notes:

MM: 0
TTC: 1 (single note at stairs to lighthouse)
CC: 21 (all notes underwater and the notes at the sides of Clanker's Cavern (where you need to jump from hole to hole))
BGS: 17 (all notes which require alligator to reach + some maze notes)
FP: 0
GV: 14 (notes behind Jinxy + notes underwater)
MMM: 10 (notes in the chapel + notes in the well)
RBB: 5 (kitchen)
CCW: 25 (beehive and mumbo in autumn, as well as all winter notes)

This is just a temporarly list. It depends whether I have enough ammo for the Grunty battle. If not, I need to collect more notes to open the note doors near the final battle.

I wish you luck, it would be awesome for a Banjo Kazooie single segment but that would be very hard. Cheese are you doing the DK run?
For the record, there is no noticeable difference between the PAL and NTSC versions. The best time for 100% in 2.40.05 has been set on the PAL version of the game.
Yes, a bunny riding a towel
wow, that is such valid proof on its own! now we also know that there were a ton of good ntsc players that actually went for the record and couldn't break that time? such a good comparison of runs there. I think it is safe to say the ntsc version is actually slower, because the record is not ntsc!
Exoray
uhm, a run for this game uses the ingame timer afaik, so there's no difference in NTSC or PAL with regards to completion time. What kowbrainz says is correct.
I (L) Mr. Vile
Mmm, I really thought that the PAL version runned at a much slower framerate then the NTSC version, and that the ingame timer calculates in realtime seconds.

But anyway, I'm currently preparing the final route, which should not take too much time (thanks to Sami for his TAS). If only I had my DVD recorder early. Sad
Good luck Negotiator, there is some valuable time that can be knocked off by death and save warping if planned right. This should be interesting...

Can't you copy save files? If so this is a non-issue: after a successful segment create a copy, attempt a segment on file 1, if you fail, copy file 2 over to file 1 and repeat; if you succeed, copy file 1 over to file 2 and do the next segment.

As for timing, while the frame rates are different I know that for Banjo-Tooie at least, the playing speed is the same (just less frames are drawn). Not sure whether this is true for B-K but if it is, again, that's another issue averted.
Yeah, I've played BK on the rom, PAL cartridge and the Xbox Live Arcade version, and while the framerate is smoother depending on which version you play, the speed is the same and you'll achieve the same times on each level if you use the same routes.

And no, there's no copy feature in BK. Heck, they didn't even add one to the Xbox Arcade rerelease... :/

Good news! I've received my DVD recorder today! Now I can finally record my run!

The route is complete and optimal tested. A full recorded run should be done at the end of the week. Wink

Great, i can't wait to see the run! Wink
Just want to say that I'm really looking forward to this run. Smiley Good luck in making it.

I've created it this morning, so there isn't much to see yet.
So, how is the run moving along? Looking much forward to this - also to provide some routes, maybe.

- but I must say, I can't really see it going near two hours just for skipping 6 jiggies and 90 notes.
2:20 would be more reasonable I think

I tend to agree. 2.20 is a good target!
I (L) Mr. Vile
Due to a series of misunfortunate events, i wasn't able to complete the run last week. Mumbo's Mountain is the only world recorded for now.

A little note: I wasn't able to complete Mumbo's Mountain without Ticker. It ain't that much of a big deal however, I lost around 5 / 10 seconds?
Any chance of posting it on that Youtube-account of yours? Smiley
