I pick the team for my project Wolfenstein 3D Done Quick. It will be something like Half-Life 2 Done Quick team.
Goal is to finish the game on the skill "I am Death incarnate!" as quickly as possible. To record the demos will be used WolfDem tool. Everyone who is interested in the run can join the team.
Thread title:
Are you planning to record it in native DOS or some Windows emulator ?

Record demos using WolfDem tool in DOS. After that encode demo files to AVI using DOSbox emulator. Here's an example:

It's a bit retarding due to incorrect settings of DOSbox emulator.
I AM FUCKED ANGRY
I think the DOSbox emulator is not allowed ?

but I hope for a run on this game.

The SNES version is censored but to record the video on this system is more easy.
But I do not like the SNES version. Also this game is uncensored on the GBA version.

DOSbox is not used for recording the run! It used only to convert demo files to AVI format.
The Dork Knight himself.
So long as the demos play exactly the same in true dos as they do in DosBox I don't see an issue (since capturing DOS games is hard enough as it is) but you'll still have to clear it with Mike before submitting.
spread the dirt to the populace
I've been working on episode runs on Death Incarnate, so I'm very interested in this!

Don't have the time to actually play, though, what with all the other games I need to practice for the marathon.  Good luck!
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Dos runs are accepted on TASvideos nowadays, so it might better to try there. Emulated runs are not accepted on SDA du to cencerns regarding manipulations like save states etc.

Would love to see this run when completed, as long as it is played in dos and recorded there. I don't see anything wrong with using some emulator to do the conversion to video.

As a last resort someone could always take the demos and connect a dos computer to some type of video recorder, even long after the run is completed.

This is not emulated run. Demo from the video above and WolfDem demo player for Wolfenstein 3D (ver. 1.4).
sda loyalist
Some people read 'emul-' and have that immediate reaction.

Looking forward to this, guys. Smiley
1 (demo file) and 3 (demo file) levels from episode 3.
Hi Smiley

E1M1 in 0:20 health 15 (Youtube) (demo)
E1M1 in 0:21 health 44 (demo)

I used novert to disable vertical mouse movement, it's a popular tool in the doom speedrunning scene. For some reason, It makes the cursor continually go up in the wolf3d menus.

I think we should try the easiest difficulty first. Faster speedrun and easier to survive.

There is already KOT's speed run on easy and to my mind it's much less thrilling to watch than this one.

Nice demos at 00! Thanks for the advice about novert. I don't like easiest skill, because it's not challenging and very easy to run. This is my forum for convenience. You can register and post your demos there. I have already uploaded your 0:20 demo there.

KOT's speedrun is on newwolf engine, he can turn while straferunning in that port which makes it a lot easier

level 10 (episode 2 map 1) in 00:10

lol, Crazy run

E1M1 in 0:20, 45 health, 18 ammo
E1M2 in 0:29, 32 health, 8 ammo

BTW, I tried to set the score for E1M2 with wolfdem but it seems it's broken, so all the demos will start with 0 points, right?

Yeah score system is broken. Just always set to 0 and lifes to 3.
45 is much better than 15. Smiley
E1M3 in 0:25, 55 health, 10 ammo
E1M4 in 0:30, 30 health, 12 ammo
utilized  the key door opening trick in E1M4, should keep an eye out for this trick, if the enemy inside does hear you, he can open the door for you like in E3M3. If the enemies inside don't hear you, you can possible make the outside enemies open the key door if you hide behind a wall that's on or ahead of the horizontal axis of the door like I did in E1M4.
The trick can be done in E1M2 too but it takes too much time if you succeed Smiley

I found a limitation in wolfdem, if you get the chaingun, you must be carrying it at the end of the map, because you'll be forced to start with it if you record the demo with the 4 weapon on the next map, duh

I believe that it's not so important because the weapons can be changed instantly (like in Quake). This is more critical in games like Doom 1,2 and Quake 2.

Oh my god, FINALLY someone is working on doing this.

You guys rock.  Can't wait.
E1M5 in 0:34, 1 health, 11 ammo
E1M6 in 0:14, 1 health, 17 ammo
E1M7 in 0:23, 1 health,  21 ammo

used door tricks in all of them Smiley
Funny health too Tongue
E1M7 isn't final yet, The success chance for the guard to open the door is very low. I got it 3 times in like 2 hours. died twice, and the third time was this 0:23 exit. I'm not trying it hardcore as it's too boring, a good time can pop out anytime. Give it a try rus_robot Smiley

E1M8 doesn't have a door trick. It should be possible with 1 health. No need to play safely, you just need to survive the 3 SS at the key room and get the medkit there, and the rest are guards on your route that will be easy to deal with.

I will try E1M7 today. I'm working for 2 and 6 episode. It's just a fucking nightmare! Soldiers come across at every corner. Besides, I think we need Chaingun before the boss level, to save time at the end.

UPDATE2: E1M7 in 0:21, 1 health, 11 ammo

I've just discovered a way to do the trick in e1m7 reliably, if you do the exact moves I do, lure the guard to the right wall then immediately hide in the corridor with the table he'll open the door much more often Smiley

E1M7 in 0:16, 1 health, 21 ammo
E1M8 in 0:33, 25 health, 12 ammo
E1M9 in 0:18 (manually timed from the start of control, till just before the cutscene plays)
E1M9 DOSBox raw video

Sadly I discovered a very serious bug in wolfdem, it desyncs with my E1M9 demos most of the time, each time I play the demo, the boss acts differently and I die. I had to play my demo over 20 times to record it in sync. Provided dosbox raw file above.
This is another E1M9 demo which I couldn't get to sync, it's probably slower though. Try to play the demo and tell me the results.
If you'll record in dosbox, make sure blocksize is set to 512 so that the audio doesn't get delayed too much.

I should compile the e1 speedrun video soon Smiley
