Why not make a google document or a poll or the like where people can select which location would be okay, and what time of the year? Obviously it can't work out for all people, so choosing the one with the most interest and is feasible for the organizers might be a good idea?
Gauging from that, it should be a little easier to plan a location for the marathon and find suitable prices. It should be a start, at least, rather than just having people post their interest in a thread (easy to loose someone, and not really a good place to store necessary information, etc).

count me in and i vote August.
TIOLET!
If anyone plan on driving from Sweden to the marathon I could possibly shove my PC in the trunk (my PC is big mind you). In case a gaming PC will be required.
DS Dictator
Hopefully I'll have enough money to go to this European Marathon with my modded DS but don't forget that:
27th July to the 12th of August 2012 is the Olympics and unlike EVO this one seems to attract nearly anyone, viewers wise.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Wouldn't late August work then? Especially since it seems like the European summer vacation off university is later than the American one.
Precursor
I'm wary about the latter half of August. There's a possibility that I will not be able to make it if it is, and I cannot be certain if I can or not until at best the later half of May.
Location vote: Sweden > Germany > Others

When: I don't have plans for that time of year yet so I'm up for it any time during the summer, late or early

Late summer might be the best around these parts..
In Finland we have around six season per year and they are called: Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Winter. I bet it applies to Sweden as well :p
Prices aren't usually an issue unless you plan to eat and sleep outside the event or take bar taxis back to the hotel.
From my experience, events held around Germany are the most convenient for everybody. Flights are rather cheap and beer is awesome and almost free !

Just my two cents Smiley
Is PJ
We only have four seasons in Western NY: Winter, Winter, Winter, and slightly-warmer-Winter.

I'd say that sums it up pretty well.
Longer winter, intermediate spring and autumn and a hot summer. Depending on where you live, of course, but that's pretty much what it is in the capital.

That's kinda similar to Canada: Winter, Still Winter, Why's it still winter, and Construction.

I've heard that same joke used here in Ohio :p
Crawlathon WR, get down on my level.
No, the joke in Ohio is: stand on a street corner for one day and you'll see every type of weather possible.
I'd be up for this, though I'm not sure yet what games I can run.

Germany seems like a good location by virtue of being central and having awesome beer.

I don't think we've had any solid arguments against Germany, but idk if we want to make that the final decision just yet.

Let's give it the rest of the month. Before October is over, we want to have the location decided.
Everybody's favorite monster
germany over sweden just because i can drive there
Exoray
Germany sounds just fine if we can find someone in germany able and willing to organize this whole thing that is.
Make it so.
Do we have any updates for this at all?

Any German (or near to Germany) SDA members who can look for suitable places?
DK + Mario Kart 8 = <3
kennyman666 said we should deciside the location until the month is over but i think we go for germany

and i am german i can look for a place

tigger said he would do this in karlsruhe this is near to him so i think he is the person for this

Yeah, since noone's been saying anything else, and no bad points about Germany have been brought up, I think we can pretty much make that decision final now.

Which means the following steps are to get a final decision on the date and assemble the German crew to find us a location. Preferably - actually, pretty much a must - close to an airport.

It will obviously have to be over summer so people from other countries like me can get over, but of course not at the same time as the US summer marathon. (I know this has been said before).

Another thing worth bearing in mind is what charity we will be supporting if this does go ahead. I know I'm lost for ideas for that.
Let the music play!
I think we should establish a location and date, as well as organise accommodation before deciding on a charity to support. I figure any charity will want to know this information so they can prepare and alert their other supporters about the marathon too. We still have a quite a few months to decide.

Definitely, charity is priority #3 right now (date is #1 and location in Germany is #2). Suggestions can be thrown out now if anyone has any good ideas, but we're not deciding or contacting anyone until we have decided the more important things.
WOW.
I suggest first that we first tally interested German members to see what part of the country they live, then concentrate our efforts on finding a location in the most populated area. The price of the venue, If we are not having it as someone's house, would obviously differ depending on what time of the year you want to rent it out. It would need to have good access to an airport/transport too.
Make it so.

This man speaks sense, I second pretty much everything in this post.
