Ooo, I love this game. Sadly I am not very good at speed strategies for RTS games though I might have some tips for the CORE campaign. I would really much want to see a run made.
Now I realize this is a very old thread, but as a grizzled old TA veteran who recently discovered speed running. I read this thread and noticed there was a little bit of progress towards attempting this but nothing complete. I also noticed the complaints about how hard Krogoth encounter was but using that as a speed run setting (one that's not going to take 16 hours) is a good call, at least for a bit of fun.
I've done a couple runs, and i think i can get a sub 30 minute run of Krogoth encounter up on youtube in the next day or two (in real time of course, +10 speed is the only way to play, gotta go fast #speedrunz)
I wonder if anyone is still interested in this topic? regardless, time to try for a sub 30 run, and maybe one day do a full game run haha. fearless.
sorry again for dragging up a 4 year old thread, but I think it's time TotalA got some serious speedrun treatment.
I've been meaning to get back to this for so, so long. The truth is I was never particularly great at the multiplayer so I'm unsure how effective the strategies I've been using are. Also, there are so many missions where you have to kill everything on the map that I got kind of burnt out trying to plan it all.
Don't be afraid of necro-posting on this board; we like keeping (hopefully) relevant information together.
Well I'm about to upload a 25 minute krogoth encounter run. It's a nice mission cause it ends once u kill all krogoths and gantries. Don't have to kill all core units, which you know, probly saves at least another 10 - 20 mins. I did it with not TAdemo because it doesn't work in windowed mode, and i had to use windowed mode to record it. If i can get TA demo working with it, or even a little practice i recon i could get sub 20 mintues
Ok, it's finally uploaded - a 25 minute krogoth encounter.
sorry for the slow play, i'm pretty rusty, and pretty sure i might be able to get sub 20 will share any tips and tricks anyone wants to know, but i didn't do anything too fancy in this clip, will be many runs before i get to actually start breaking the game for optimisations
I remember when I played the single player campaign, the commander was so tough that the most common strategy was to build up energy structures and then head into the enemy base with the commander. I believe a patch fixed that?
haha, there was no patch that fixed this heh, commander + accurate Dguns is still the way to go, until you run into guardian or annihilator territory, then the damage starts adding up a bit too quickly for comfort haha look forward to doign more runs tomorow morning. Eventually i will move onto a full campaign run... might as well set the bar somewhere right? haha. most likely will do that over the weekend
While the Commander is very effective at taking on bases single-handedly, it's not always very efficient. Also, there are often random enemies or sub-bases spread around the map that need to be taken care of as well.
heh yeah, gonna upload my 18:02 krogoth encounter. will spend tonight trying to beat that but i think i might move on to the missions unless someone else wants to have a go at krog encounter heh
Would be cool with a run of this game. Been thinking of running it myself since it's one of my favorite games but it's not going to happen. Hopefully you'll complete a full run/table, if I'm not mistaken there are a shit ton of missions though Could be that I'm including all the expansion packs though since I believe they had quite a few missions, maybe more than vanilla.
That's really brutal. I loved the part where your airplane-fleet almost covered the entire screen. Eagerly waiting for an inprovement, or a new mission!
I hope you have a render without that timer if you are intending to submit an ARM / Core / ARM + Core table to SDA. SDA does not accept videos that aren't pure gameplay.
yeah ive still got the origonal projects and raw footage too if they want that as well. it;s just up there for my own timing really, from unpause to victory screen. It's hard to do that yourself while trying to play and get the start stop accurate, so i time it in editing but keep an eye on the in game clock to check my progress while playing
Haha not quite yet... but i can upload the 15:45 ~if you want. I havent been running as i've been super busy with finishing my final project of my computer science degree, as well as the presentations and whatnot that go with that. but as soon as I can ill get back to running, hell i could even stream it if you guys are interested. do a little live commentary and what not haha. lemmy know what u recon and we'll see if i cant one day break the 10 minute mark haha
I'd be super-interested in a stream, but unfortunately my internet is too terrible to tune in. But if you save the broadcasts I'd watch them whenever I can. Also live commentary is always interesting, as it can help one understand what is really going on. Specially since I was never this fast at the game, my best time with this mission is way over 4 hours.
If you have the time, I'd very much like to see the ~15:45 run, otherwise no problems. Focus on that degree first and foremost, they're important.
heh, editing and uploading is no real problem, im suprised i havent already TBH, i can probly get that up within the next 12 hours if i dont forget. maybe do a sneaky run or two. and yeah if i do a stream of my practice sessions ill record it or at least edit up a nice sorta full explanation of whats going on in a run heh. will probly actually help me towards faster times in future anyways so no reason not to.
