I'm just posting this to see if anyone would be interested in a speed run of Thrasher: Skate and Destroy for the PS1. It may very well be one of the most difficult Skateboarding games ever.
Thread title:
You will do one one or you are asking to do one?
If you do one cool go for it !
I would definitively watch it!
Just dont break your skate if you do it!
I was asking if anyone would be interested in seeing one.
i would definetly be interested in seeing that!!

i just rember playing tony hawk one and thinking "Thrasher's so much better!!!"

but if a run comes around in the future i would love to see it
Omgooses
I remember playing this, I actually played this before I played Tony Hawk.  The music on this game is great, and the wall rides I really liked those on this game.  Wasn't their also like a first person view of a cop or a dog or whatnot (depending on the level) chasing you?  That was good stuff.
I would love to see a run. That game's awesome. I still have that game, great fun.

Though I'll have to disagree with the guy who said it had great music; too much rap for my tastes. But the skating had a whole different feel than any other skateboarding game's. My only complaint, really, is how extremely linear and simplistic it is. But then, extreme sports games weren't very open in that time anyhow =P
Hello there! My first posting here.

I apologise, first, for dragging up a 3 year old topic.

I've been watching SRs on here now for over a year now, and I'm constantly playing games, so it only seems logical that I would eventually attempt a Speed Run.

There is no game that really would have stood out to me to speed run, Metal Gear Solid could have been a contender, especially the Twin Snakes, with 30+ completions of both titles combined and normal completion times of about 2 and a bit hours casually, however, after watching the run here, I don't feel I have the dedication to master it like that.

One day, I was looking around and noticed there wasn't a run for Thrasher: Skate and Destroy, while not exactly a well known game, it's definitely a favourite.

With my finishing college in just over a week, and with uni about 4 months away after that, this should give me ample time to get back to grips with the game, and hopefully produce something from it. I can't promise anything, I have never attempted anything like this before, nor do I know if I have means to record the run, however I am just throwing it out there that I am interested in trying to run it.

If anyone has any suggestions, or tips, they would all be greatly appreciated!

thanks

pembo

EDIT: It would seem this thread is in the incorrect forum, no?
Ruddy hell, pembo. What the hell are you doing here?

I would definitely like to see this game ran Smiley

Also, are you planning on going UK Masters?
lolwut who are you!? Tongue

I can't get to the Masters Sad I'm skint and I can't get off work. I'm not even going to make the Worlds! Sad Seeing as it is just a week after starting uni....

For an update, I'm hoping for a sub20 minute run of this game, with menu and loading time that is.

EDIT: now I'm somewhat tempted to put Rubik's Cube PB: 9.92 seconds in my signature, just to one up you Smiley
also, did/do you frequent Twisty Puzzles?
Pembo, it's Simon. Also, my sig needs updating, it's 8.10 now Tongue

I frequent speedsolving.com. Also, be prepared to drop down in the national rankings: Muhahahah! Smiley (Well, for all I know, you might be averaging less than this at home, but whatever  :P)
I so can't remember you!  8)
I came 6th at UK Open, if it helps. In head to head, I was against Thom Barlow.
As an update, I have just completed a full run in around 21 minutes, which some HUGE errors in the South Bank (I failed the level 3 times because of carelessly throwing myself into the Thames) so I am certain of a sub20 run, however, I can't see sub15 ever being possible simply because of the amount of loading time and all the menus you have to go through after every level.

If I do get a run recorded, I can't see it being very entertaining to watch, except for the 40 odd seconds you get every now and then of me actually skating.

As it stands, I pretty much have my lines down for every level, however, I'm still lacking any sort of line for the Embarcadero, if anyone has any ideas, they would be thoroughly appreciated!
SPEEDruns not SAFEruns
Reviving this 6 year old topic! I've done a blind run of this game and finished it in 24 minutes, and for the last couple weeks have been casually routing and finding some new things. Sub 20 at this point is free. The categories I've devised are Any% which just takes completing the career until you finish the final contest, and "All Covers" which would continue from Any% and complete all the levels again to full beat the game. I'm not calling it 100% because in my opinion that would mean getting all covers with all characters.

Here's a couple of things I felt needed to be noted:

- I'm playing on a SCPH-90000 PS2 with FDS because the load times in this game are horrible otherwise.
- Playing as Axl
- If you choose no sponsor for the whole run it skips the clothing select screen completely, saving a few seconds between levels

I will be doing runs of this on my stream for most of June when I'm not running my main games. I'll have a run together and ready to submit to the site by then. If anyone is interested or has any questions let me know!
I remember playing this game at a friend's house back in the day, can't really remember if I liked it or not though. I love the early THPS games, and PS1 games in general so this is going to be a nice run to watch Smiley

The game isn't as fast paced as THPS, because it's supposed to be more realistic. That being said you can easily chain fliptricks/grinds, and some physical properties on ramps are certainly not correct. The soundtrack is also top notch, featuring all 80's hip-hop thumbsup
Any progress yet?

Sorry I didn't update this! I did a few runs and ended up getting a 16:12 with quite a few mistakes - I've been focusing on some other games a little bit but will be trying to record a run to put on the site. Sub 15:30 is certainly obtainable and I will be going for that.

EDIT: I also think Sub 15 would be do-able with some better routing, so maybe I'll gun for that

legoman rules!
I did a run or two a while back but i decided to grind this game out today for a few hours (had no idea this was getting attention recently on sda either, kush aliens man shit) I hadnt seen a run before so im not sure if there is any sort of norm for any% or other categories so i went with what i thought would make the most sense to me in terms of speed. I played ng+ and would "save and quit" after reaching the levels point goal.  I started at hometown and ended at das kolosseum. For now i was exiting the level once the score turned green to confirm that you did actually beat the high score, and for contests (brooklyn banks, courthouse, ebarcadao and das k) i was actually skating to the levels exit system to get the "congratulations you won the contest" message. Idk it felt weird just exiting the contests like the other levels, especially das k because that congrats notice is kinda like the end game game over you win screen ya know? but this is something that i think needs to be discussed. Should we use the start menus 'exit level' to quit or should we actually have to skate to the levels exit in all levels, just contests, just das k or none? Idk personally i like it this way. and i think that s&q doesnt work in ng with a fresh character. I didnt do much new game testing because i like having all the tricks which increased going fast = more fun. Anyways heres my 17:05 run that ill be improving on.

edit: damn hivemind, do you have any recordings?

SPEEDruns not SAFEruns
So I started with a new game file mainly because I'm not into new game + speed runs. I was considering also doing a Skater of the Year run which would involve beating all the levels twice, but to be honest I think that'd be pretty fucking boring.  I just aim to complete the game as quickly and cleanly as possible, which means exiting contest etc. I stop the timer when I do because it's the last required input during the run. I also play on expert. Anyway, here's a video of the run

EDIT: Added YouTube embed
Nice to see a run, but I have to say that this game looks worse than I remembered lol. Those loading times were really slow, even with fast disc speed. Still, I would like to try it if I could find a really cheap copy of it.
And yeah, a "skater of the year" run wouldn't be that fun to watch so any% is probably the way to go.
SPEEDruns not SAFEruns
Yeah, a majority of the run is loading times and it's pretty brutal. Still a fun game to play but I'm not gonna be putting too much time into it haha
Skate 20 seconds and then load 30 seconds...

After reading Pembo's post I managed 16:08 a few years back on Normal with Cyrus but never uploaded it until now as I used an emulator, today I just felt like uploading it though...

Could definitely do better than that on Normal. Deucelers run, while totally different paths to mine, has some excellent lines, I really wasted a lot of time on Courthouse too and didn't plan everything out as well as I could've. Nonetheless, it's ok. I think 15:30 is about as quick as you can hope for with a decent run. Will give it another go as I'd like sub 16 down the track on Normal, it's a much more fun game to play than expert Deuceler, admit it! Those loads though. -_- Gotta love em, beer time.

Nice run Le5lo - but we all know expert is for the true gamers thumbsup

Maybe I'll come back to it as well and see what can happen. I still think a "good" run would be sub 15

EDIT: Also after reviewing runs it looks like emulator vs. console will probably end up being a different category. The load screen after the first stage is 8 seconds difference because of loading screens. So I'd imagine this adds up to quite a bit throughout the run
