The comments made me believe that this is the one with the major skip.

But yeah, you're probably right. I wonder why it hasn't appeared anywhere yet.
Wake up and be awesome
Technically that run is without the white palace skip (the 11 minute run), HOWEVER that run has lots of other skips as well
It's exactly the run I'm talking about. Is the process to get a video up on SDA usually this long?
Wake up and be awesome
Sadly, yeah it takes a while
Ultima, there is a steamer on twitch who runs main Quest no major skips. His name is YourCat. I speedrun it too, but I can't stream currently. The route has changed a lot from TheVoid's video. The WR is 50:50, by YourCat. The main quest any% is 4:50 iirc, also set by Yourcat. I think a shivering isles run would be a lot of fun. We have an oblivion Speedrunning Skype group. If you want to get in, hit me up on Skype @ "Sayberblayde". Happy running!
Very cool Sayber that my route/run has been improved a lot Smiley
Wake up and be awesome
Alright, just in case anybody wanted to see the Oblivion run that was submitted and accepted a while ago, It's up on the SDA games list right now
Xevro, if you are there, and want would want to discuss the run with the current RTA runners, feel free to hit me up on Skype @Sayberblayde. I can add you to our Speedrunning group
Does anyone run this game glitchless?

I have been looking at TheVoid's 55 minute run and taking notes on it about the route. I am about halfway through his video and haven't noticed any glitches (maybe I missed something?) aside from the starting cell door glitch. So I was thinking trying to learn Any% Glitchless and hope I am not looking at an outdated route before I start practicing enough to come close to the time and before losing all sanity to try and find ways to speed it up. Optimizing the route may not even be possible looking at all of the time and effort I saw TheVoid put in after reading prior posts of his, but think it will be fun to give it a shot nonetheless.

I love watching glitched runs, but would like to try glitchless and play staying in-bounds for now.

Thanks for any info.
Did 99% of the Any% (glitchless or in-bounds at the least) run last night before Martin died right as I exited the Palace and didn't have a quick save except from a few segments back. D'OH! Seems a lot more fun than Skyrim due to not having to go out of bounds and getting to kill a lot more enemies. Took about 1hr 55min first run through minus the very last part of the last quest. Figured it would be a lot higher considering deaths and not playing Oblivion in 3+ years.

Sayber, I don't know if you still run this game or not (am I the only one currently?), but I found my original copy of Oblivion from release. The main quest is completely doable as I had no issues running the main quest just now. Looking at the patch notes, the only scary thing is runs may die in Miscarcand by some doors not working. I only ran it once so could be that it is random or just not the doors for the main route. I think there are 2 doors that are completely skipped when just going for the Great Welkynd Stone.

The reason I ask is because the unpatched version allows for duping items with the bow and with there being one in the first room with the rats and 26 arrows, you should be able to quickly dupe the scrolls you loot off the first corpse. That should allow you to skip Bruma for getting dupe scrolls and in turn also allow you skip Skingrad and stealing from Glarthir. I am thinking you should be able to sell a "few" of the scrolls to Nordinor and then buy the Skooma. Looks like he will buy a single Chameleon scroll for 28g and the Goblin Staff from the tutorial for 91g as I just went to him and checked the prices on my character. You won't be able to buy all 5 Skoomas due to him only having 400g.

I don't know if your route depends on 1.2 or if you are even running 1.2, but thought it was useful information to say the least.

Hey @TyCobb

Sayber is currently busy and not running the game, but I am certain he will return over the course of the next months. However there's around 15 others that have run this game in 2014, just like myself. As Sayber stated, we have a skype conversation open for all oblivion runners, since that's were things started for us as a 'community' earlier this year. We're looking into getting some sort of open forum or information hub on running oblivion going, but that might take a while until we set it up.

Most of us don't use the arrow-dupe since Sayber, YourCat plus myself & others have patched their game to 1.2 so we could have the option to run with the Quickclip Modification. I don't know if the runners who recently joined us all run on 1.2 aswell, since there were a few that preferred to run Vanilla or No OOB / Clipless. I am personally very sceptical regarding a 'glitchless' run of the game, since it is just so broken already, that I expect defining what has to be considered a 'glitch' and what not to be a lot of work. But I know Matumbro had the same idea recently so you might want to check with him.

Thanks for the info Findus. I didn't realize the QC required patched versions.

I think in term of "glitchless", I defined it as not forcibly breaking the game. I can't think of anything I do in the run that I forcibly break to make things go faster other than fast traveling or waiting to make time pass which can be reasoned why certain things skipped. But when I recorded my runs, I flagged it as "In-Bounds" just to be safe  =)

Are you able to add me to the Skype group? I would message Sayber, but I don't want to bother if he is busy and hasn't even looked at this page since I first posted. If you can, I'll message you my email.

Thanks

Hi.
In the past few days I´ve intensely been speedruning Oblivion and my fastest run so far is 4:07 w/o loads.
I used all latest tricks/glitches but I can´t seem to get a good rng from NPCs :/ .
This is my Single Segment RTA run.
Please add some feedback. Thank You in advance.

So as I asked before, is it really necessary to have all the info visible? I remember the FPS has to show.

I think you're wasting time with how long you spend running into the wall before doing the save/load trick. The WR saves almost instantly. Why would you need to run against it first? You're losing probably 10 seconds to this alone.

0:37 - this wall clip SAVES time over the WR because in the WR the guy gets stuck for a moment.
Running through the goblin caverns: again, you're actually faster in this part! GJ
Emperor Septim part: Here the WR time goes directly to the three guys whereas you stop to kill the first assassin. Maybe the WR saves time? I'm having a really difficult time analysing the part that comes after with what's possible to manipulate and what isn't.
1:54 - you actually lose a bit of time to starting to fire the fireball a bit later than necessary (I don't think it was off cooldown, maybe I'm wrong)
2:01 - again, I can't really help with what you need to do to get the AI to open the door faster...
3:07 - The sewers - your movement loses a bit of time: I think wouldn't the fastest be to hop onto the first little bridge (on the second step or so), and then the WR hops directly onto the stairs at 3:12 but maybe the rat would have been in the way with you. You lose a tiny bit of time to aiming the second fireball at the rat.

Did you contact the WR holder directly already? They're the one able to give you the most feedback. I'm actually wondering if their timing is correct, or yours. It was difficult to follow so I really can't quite see where the 30 seconds comes from, but I know that doing the wall clips faster will, in itself, save a lot of time. This is why I think you should keep trying.

Thanks for the feedback. It´s still a work in progress. My run isn´t that bad overall.I just need better execution and rng from A.I.
No I did not contact WR holder.
Yes walclips save like 10 seconds(I should work on that /agree with You).

Without loads 3:53.Had Good rng with Glenroy, he one hit killed all the assasins and opened the door instantly. Smiley
Antonio, I'm watching a bit from the sideline here, but it's great to hear about the progress you're making. If I look at the dates of your posts, you're making very rapid improvements. You're getting pbs basically every other day and you're so close to the record now. Judging by the leaderboard, 3:53 is a respectable time. If this is the progress you're able to make in just a few days, aren't you also a bit curious to see if you can go all the way and take the #1 spot? It seems like you're even faster than the record in some sections, so the potential is there. Or what's your own thoughts of the record? What needs to fall into place to surpass that run?

Hi ktwo.
I am speedruning Oblivion 2 hours per day for the past 4 days.
I think that my runs are good but the thing is that my PC loads clips thru walls very bad, so I need to take additional 1 second more to run into the wall, quick save then load; I really do not know why
(so I lost only on that about 8 seconds) ...So that needs to fall into place.
And thank You for encouraging me. Smiley
If your loading times are faster than the WR holder's, maybe you need to slow the game down to get the same kinds of clips? It's allowed to do that BTW.

I still don't know about this run... I see you're still e.g. first stopping, then aiming the fireball, then firing the fireball when you kill the first assassin. Why couldn't you start firing it earlier? Also, are you absolutely sure this is faster than first aggroing the emperor/guards (using a fireball is faster?), then killing the assassin as you're passing by. You seem to be at the door faster than the NPCs anyway. I'm sure you can save more time there.

At 1:50 you look to have wasted a whole two fireballs. Then another one. I assume the DPS is better with those. You just kinda wait a bit, then use fists on one of the assassin's. If you had aggroed the guard who's fighting the assassins, would you have been able to talk to the emperor or not?

Afterwards, you use fists to fight the first assassin in the next room, then switch to fireball, then swing the fists again (missing a lot). I've actually played this game but that was a while ago: what's the cooldown like on the fireball? I can't see a reason why you couldn't have went fireball-fists-fireball instead (or just 3 fireballs) to kill them faster so the guards never have to stop to fight them.

Can you finally answer some of my questions now? I've asked you some of this stuff before. Your movement in the sewers still looks the same as before without any rats to stop you this time. I don't know if I quite like your menuing even, e.g. when you exit the sewers, it looks like you're not ready to do a quick mouse snap downwards to get at least close to where the right option is. Is your mouse sensitivity a bit too low?

More time lost because you couldn't accurately point at the slider when waiting in the last room. Is the sensitivity too high then? Smiley

Yeah so sorry I didn't give this feedback earlier, but a) you never explained some of these things before and b) ktwo was trying to hint that you should keep practising. And I do mean practising, not just waiting for the best RNG possible. I feel you're being too impatient. Haste makes waste, as they say!

Ok I did not know about slowing the game down I will do that.
"Why couldn't you start firing it earlier? "-It it a blink of an eye time save very minor but still my mistake.
I think that killing the assasin with fireball 1st is faster and then aggro Emperor.
At 1.50 I wasted fireballs but Glenroy killed the assassin very fast so there were no time loss.I did not aggro the guard so I could talk to the Emperor.
After that,I missed alot that´s true. The assasin was going in opposide direction I do not know why :/.
Moovement in the sewers does not save any time as I see it(because the downfall of the jump slows you and you end with same result,I tried it).
The main problem with my run is the wall clipping.I will work on that it´s a 10 second time save.
No problem about the not giving feedback earlier . Smiley
P.S. I made a speedrun pause, was busy...
Thanks for the response! Knowing this stuff makes it easier to verify submitted runs. I still swear it must be faster jumping onto the staircase in the sewers though, but if you're sure...

If you're losing 10 seconds to clipping, then you must be losing some to the menuing too (I can't imagine your A.I. RNG was 10 seconds slower).
