you can upload any size image and the forum will take care of everything for you.

edit: oh just realized you mean your original sda avatars -- no, you'll need to upload a larger version if you want them to appear bigger for people. otherwise people using eg 120x120 will just see your avatar at its original small (60x60 or whatever) size.
The forum doesn't seem to like when I try to add an avatar from the web?
When I try, it simply says:
"Sorry, an error occurred with the image data."
gamelogs.org
what's the url? it just worked fine for me using http://samuel.arkarian.org/woman.jpg
Hmm. That one worked.
But, try, for example: http://avatars.animeserve.com/d/774-1/angeltales_akane-01.jpg
gamelogs.org
yeah weird, that doesn't work for me either. i don't see anything wrong with the file; maybe nate would be able to figure this one out. at any rate if you just download the image then upload it from your machine it will work fine.

Yeah, that's what I've been doing.
So is there a limit on the number of avatars you can have?
gamelogs.org
not that i know of. theoretically of course, but you should be fine with hundreds of them.
That's cool.
There are other things I've thought of.
It's about utilizing that room below and above the thread view. How about just utilizing the middle space for the actual thread?
The profile, appearence, etc, links could perhaps appear in the top bar? Ideally, the whole SDA logo would too, but it would probably eat too much screen space for those with small resolution.
As for the bottom bar, I think it would be nice to see the "SDA Forum Index -> Support -> SDA Discussion -> taiga forum" text in it.

i've thought about putting profile/appearance on the mainbar but it seems like people would only use those features once in a while (or perhaps once ever in the case of appearance settings). so while you're still playing with the new features it might seem like a good idea, but once you've found the settings you like you'll probably use those links only rarely. so i don't think having to scroll up to see them is a big deal in that case.
the other reason they're not on the mainbar is because there's not much room up there to begin with, especially for people with small browser windows/low resolution. i think customizable links would see more use on a regular basis and therefore deserve more room.

btw, you can put a link to your profile on the mainbar yourself if you want: just make the url /editprofile/your_username_here.html

i've considered this too but there's just no way to make it fit. it's at the bottom of the page when you're scrolled all the way down which is when i think most people would want to navigate away from the current thread.

alright, I fixed up my avatar so it is bigger (and with more details...) but now I have a new problem... I just noticed that everyone's signature isn't seen anymore... is it in a different location or do we need to redo our signatures again too?

taiga forum does not have signatures. looks like you missed the conversation about that earlier in the thread. Wink

I like access to them without having to scroll up (since I'd have to scroll down!) and it leaves the middle portion more reserved for the actual thread, which I think is nice.
Of course, this needs to be configurable.

It also allows me to quickly glance what topic it is when I open all unread in new tabs!
So if it's something I don't want, I can navigate away or close the tab.
And if it's something I want, I can keep on reading. But then I would first have to scroll down or look in the title bar (bleuh), and then scroll up again.
I would like it that way.
Customizable is that way to go!

alright then... no worries...  The last thing we would need it is the signatures that would be clogging up the forums as they did previously... Although I do give kudos for the "Autoupdate" where if you are typing a message, you can see that someone else has posted...  Smiley

just look at the tab/window title. it seems like a waste of space to always show the thread title on the page itself when the browser does it for me.

A matter of taste. That's why I mentioned it.
Err, I just noticed the button in the top bar (to the left). It hides the SDA logo, but the SDA logo isn't in the top bar, so that seems out of place. That button tells me that it would expand/shrink the top bar.

Another thought: perhaps it is a good idea to shrink the bottom bar after you've made a reply? Usually you only reply once in a thread, so it seems more logical that it would shrink after you've made your reply.

PROTIP: If you want to add a link to log out of the forums in the top static bar instead of scrolling to the top of the page, put the following into the URL of the link:
Code:
javascript:taigalogout()

wow i actually never even thought about it like that, but you're right that it doesn't make sense where it is. i'll move it down beside the profile link or something.
Would it be possible to to add an appearance setting to make YouTube links just links instead of embedded video?
Profile link in static bar works great, but appearance, not so good Sad Guess I have to live with that.
Now, if only I could modify the bottom bar to add that topic hierarchy text...
There is a noembed tag, I believe. It should make them links instead of embedded videos.

najzere: will have to see if enough people want that in order to warrant a setting for it. seems like a "don't embed any video" option might be good. you can always just not click the play button though.

Mainly I just want the link so I can watch in higher resolution if available and look at the runner and viewer comments. Maybe a link icon pegged to one corner of the embed? Also they take up a lot of real estate on the page.
gamelogs.org
well you know you can just click on the youtube vid to be taken to the youtube video page right?

that is, click on the vid but not on the play button itself. some browsers might be different but there's always a link to the page on the vid i believe.

Oh snap, right you are, it's the YouTube icon in the lower right hand corner. Never thought to mouse over that. Thanks!
The real issue is that they take up space and that some people will always end up clicking on it to go to YT anyway since the embedded video is kinda crappy (no full screen, no selection of different qualities).
Also, I don't know if these embedded videos play automatically? They don't, right? I believe the ones on YT does, but I use Flashblocker, so I mostly ignore that.
