I would like to see some professional speed runs of Syphon Filter 3, or even some for 1 or 2, but prefereably 3 because I haven't beaten it yet.

Is anyone up to the task of speed running through Syphon Filter 3?

Thanks.

How often do those requests actually get filled though?
Existence as you know it is over
Not very often. You can do the run, if you want to.
I don't have the game. I was hoping someone here is as big of a Syphon Filter fan as I am, and is willing to the run.
*to do the run.
I guess I'll have to buy the game and do the run myself if no one wants to help out.
Strange days, incredible days
I finished a run for Syphon Filter earlier this year. It's still in verification as far as I know.

Syphon Filter 3's controls are really bizarre. There's a delay when strafing or something like that. I don't much care for the game to be honest, so I don't think I'll try to run it. It would still be a fun run to watch, though, so good luck if you decide to give it a shot.

bring back old topic

I have a problem with Syphon Filter 3 and I hope someone can help me. I life in germany and the german version of Syphon Filter 3 is censored, so I had buy last month the uncensored pal english version. Because I have trouble to capture ntsc ps1 games. But it was not the pal english uk version ! It was the France promo version that was come to me.

my questions ->

Has someone play the france promo version ?
Give it differences between the Promo version and the NTSC/U version - rooms, doors, violence ?
Has the Promo version more violence in the in-game-videos ?
Has someone old magazine from france with article from the promo version ?

I have all parts of syphon filter for the ps1 system in my collection for many years, but I had never play any part from this series to the end. So professionally sda users, members would be perfect. Smiley

pictures of my promo disk ->

This thread is quite old, but I'll go ahead and write here anyway instead of starting a new topic:

After some practicing I've decided to go for a segmented run on this game. My brother finished a run on the first game recently (http://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/syphon_filter_1_ps_.html), which is currently being edited and soon-to-be sent in for verification, and judging from the fun he had I have to try one out myself!

I'll be playing the PAL version on a PS2 with texture smoothing on. Apart from two missions that the Finnish duo loopaddict and kopeekka (which, BTW, did a outstanding run on Syphon Filter 2 that never seemed to make it here on SDA for some reason) uploaded on YouTube, there's not much else that indicates a speedrun of this game being recorded, and therefore I will not mention any specific times that I'm aiming for as of now. It will be fast atleast, that's for sure!

MortyreR45: I haven't played the promo version myself, but judging from videos of SF 1 on NTSC and PAL that I have seen. I would say that it's probably very small, if any, differences in the general maping and violence at least. Try looking at NTSC and/or PAL gameplay from SF3 on YouTube and compare it with your version and see if there's any differences that you can find Smiley

Time for an update!

The first five levels are done by now, and so far its going OK. The first level proved to be extremly annoying and hard to run due to the awkward sniping part and the fact that the map is so small that the target system freaks out just about all the way through. I managed to get a decent time, but if its possible to redo some maps later on (since the first mission does not affect the second one that might be OK to do?), I might give this one another shot.

The other four levels have been a lot easier and I have already found some nice timesavers along the way. Next up is Kabul, which is going to be pretty interesting!
I AM FUCKED ANGRY
Yes the first mission of speedrun is very hard. I was think you give up, because the sniper in the beginning is very hard. But you have final create a sda account that is cool. Smiley
I was also try a bit of running this game and it make fun. I have the feeling, that part 1 of syphon filter is not so hard than this part. You must not have fear from me, I will not steal your ideas for this run. Wink I will only learn.

But I have a problem and I hope you can help me. I am in the Afghanistan mission and there is one situation I do not exact know what to do.

please look on my pictures ->

All the soldiers will kill me or my partner. What must I do exact in this area ?

I guess you can say that I gave up on the sniper in the first mission, since I went for the taser instead Wink The sniper rifle moves and shoots quite slow in this game, and combining that with my lame "skills" with it, the taser seemed like a better alternative for that part.

All SF games on PS1 are quite easy, but some parts can take quite some time to finish the first time you play. I remember being stuck where you are now for probably 30 min and I must have done 20-30 attempts before I actually made it through this part. My brohter, on the other hand, did it on the first try, eventhough he used the same tactics as I did! Shocked To call it annoying would be and understatement...

Anyways, I haven't practiced this map that much to this point, but I would recommend running trough the pass almost all the way through and start shooting from there (approximately in the same spot you're standing on in the second picture above, just at the other end) instead of staying close to truck. This way most of the guards won't even notice you and that will make things a lot easier.
I AM FUCKED ANGRY
Sorry that I was think you give up. I know that you are the brother from the new sf1 runner. I had not post in his topic, because I have sf1, but only pal in spanish language. I can not speak spanish, that is the problem, I have not play it to the end. But I had compare some times from your brother with other runs and it looks good.

I was mean with very hard in mission 1, only the beginning is so frustrating of random soldiers to kill with the sniper rifle. Yes you have right, the sniper rifle is very slow in move and aim to a enemy. You say to use a taser, that is a cool idea. I had use only the normal pistol weapon and this make it also easy. When I use a machine gun, than it would be harder.

For the afghanistan mission, yes it works better when I stand behind the truck, so the soldiers will not kill me. Smiley

It is a work in progress, it will take some time to get it right haha. Right now I'm practicing different strategies for level 6, and although I thought that it would be very difficult to run this map, I'm happy to say that the route I'm going for is a lot faster than anything I could have hoped for before I started this run. Once I get this level done I'll post some times for the first 6 maps, I will try to get some video previews aswell, but that might take a bit longer to get up and running.

SF1 is the best game in this series for sure, you should definitely try to play it trough to the end (or find another copy of the game ASAP, its truly worth it thumbsup). Since I have seen the entire run myself, I can say that its pretty solid for most of the time. There are always things that can be improved, but that is true to most speedruns if you ask me Smiley

I'm glad it worked. It will be fun to see how much timesavers I can come up with on that level once I get there!

You need to help Ellis(?) pick off the baddies at the top of both sides of the valley. Watch the walkthrough at 8:00 to get an idea of how to kill all of them. If you're too low on SMG ammo, you could start the level over again and grab the M-16 at the beginning and just use the PK as your primary fire because the baddies you kill carry ammo for it. Use the M-16 for the valley part and you should be fine.

DanE -> That is a good idea, you will upload some videos. That was my next question for you. I think, but not sure, that over 90% of all sda users had not play this game or not do it to the end. That means it will hard to find verify peoples. So when you upload some videos, that make your run not to dark and it will help me to understand what you do.

For the problem you need time to upload your preview videos, I had learn to wait. 'nate' had tell me this in every time -> Good things need time. That is true, so do it not harsh and take your time what you need. Smiley I wait for you to learn this game.

jerk_store -> Yes, I had watch this video and I had use the same tactic and it works good. In all my time I was run in the middle of this area and shoot on all soldiers, this is hard. The stupid idea was, in the beginning of this mission the truck will explode when you not protect this truck. But exactly in this area and in the last area, all soldiers can shoot on the truck it will not explode. It is a bit stupid, but it works. Smiley

In the video I had also see that he was use grenades to kill the two sniper soldiers. It need to many time, I had use the ak and had aim in the dark to a headshot, it works good and it need not much time.

I have not seen this one before (to be honest I have not searched for walkthroughs that much), but this tactic is pretty much the same as the one I use, the major difference being that I'm standing on the opposite side of the valley. Throwing a grenade at the snipers is a good idea though, if its possible to do while you're running down towards the valley it might save some time.

The SF games (on PS1) seems a bit like a hidden gem to me. Many people have probably played (or seen) the first game, but its successors have not gained that much attention. Before I bought SF3 I had only seen a poster of the game for about 11-12 years ago in a store and that was about all I knew about it; the front cover that is Grin The first time playing it through I was rather dissapointed since it didn't live up to my (very high) expectations, but when I started to practice some runs (casually speaking) on some of the maps it felt a lot more fun than before. Like I said before, SF1 is by any doubt the best game in the series, but once you give this one a shot its not that bad after all Smiley

That is definitely true.
I know for my self for ~12 years ago, I had buy the first sf1 game and it was the german version. It was so angry because the german version of sf1 was strong censored of green blood and all videos was censored. Later I had buy the sf2 game the european english version with the elspa 18 logo, but the disc 1 has a scratch and some videos do not work, but the game will work perfect. Than 2001 the release of sf3, it was a bad release date, because of the release of the new ps2 console. But I had play sf3 in this years, but the problem was the new ps2 console with new other games. The good news I had found a english copy of sf1 I order it next month. Smiley  But I tend more to part 3 the atmosphere is more darker and the story is also great than part 2 or 1. The mission 2 in the jungle is also very cool, you must destroy the drugs fields and must rescue the two girls wehre a little bit torture by a soldier. its a fantastic story.

Sf2 I had also not played this game to the end, but I know there was a sda topic for 2 or 3 years ago. There was a run in the bridge mission, this was so crazy to watch this runs.
here the link -> http://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/syphon_filter_27.html

It is cool to read your personally story for the run. thanks for this Smiley

Got Kabul done this evening, on to the preliminary times for the first 6 maps:

Hotel Fukushima: 04:50
Hidden Plantation: 05:20
C-5 Galaxy Transport: 01:14
Pugari Gold Mine: 03:40
Pugari Complex: 02:47
Shirpur District: 03:07

The timer starts when the briefing screen appears, and stops when the save screen shows up (the same way as J.Y timed his run on SF1). However, on most levels the character control actually stops before the save screen and therefore I think that the timing can be discussed...at least in this thread Tongue

I did a test run on S.S Lorelei and ended up on 06:08. Concerning how many mistakes I made on that one I will get a 05:xx time for sure. Man, this is fun! Cheesy
