God dammit, sometimes I hate speedrunning. I've spent the last hour and a half on just this level trying to get a descent time. After probably 200 attepmts, I finaly got a full run. clocking in at about 5:10 (using the same timing as the current run does). I think that Sub 5 may be possible, although it's going to be pretty hard to accomplish.
Strange days, incredible days
I always wondered if the right-side route would make it possible to get past Phagan. Nice find.

Shooting the guard in the Egypt exhibit does seem risky, every time I try to blast a guard like that I seem to get caught. At that point in the level, you're so far ahead of Phagan you might be able to take the time to headshot him, if avoiding him is especially difficult; same with the final guard, who I think will sound the alert when he sees the body of the corner guard. It's hard to know what triggers the alert when trying to do skips in this section, because they happen offscreen.

Are you having a hard time doing this skip consistently, or is it mostly later level stuff that's making it hard to finish runs?
I think it's much harder in the begining of the level, even tough I've gotten the new skip to work at most times. I often reset just after killing Benton  because I tend to fail the button glitch a lot. It' the same with almost every level in this game: probably 70% of all resets happens in the begining of the levels, or at least not half way through the levels.
Time for a little update:
It's taken some time, but on saturday night I finally got past the Rohmer's Base-levels which means I'm half way through the game!
I haven't timed all segments yet, but I think the new run is already about 3-4 min faster than my old one Smiley
How is it going for you Aaron? I'm gonna start doing some SS runs pretty soon I think, have you gotten any times yet?
Strange days, incredible days
After a brief stopover doing runs of Glare, I started playing Snapshot again and haven't been back to this since my last post. But I'm definitely still interested in any new developments on it. Smiley

If I ever sort out a video capture method for my PS2, I'll probably pick up where I left off and try to get a solid single-segment time.
Come on man, just get a Dazzle or whaterver, and some splitters and you're good to go! Wink
No but it would be nice to see what kind of times you could get. If you ever get a capture card we should do a race, maybe not the whole game, but up to the stronghold levels or so? Smiley
At last,  I'm done with the segmented run! It has been a very frustrating time running this game again, and it proved to be a bigger challange than I expected so I'm glad it's over (for now at least...).
I'm not sure what the final time will be, but a rough estimate would be around 1:05:00.
I've sent in the run for verification, so hopefully it will avalible in a few days. Any help with the verification process would be gladly accepted! Smiley

By the way, last week I did a terrible SS run, clocking in at about 1:25:00. It was a very crappy run, basically everything that could go wrong went wrong, so the time is improvable with at least 9-10 minutes.
Run is now available for verification! I'm gonna upload the whole run on Youtube, here are a couple of segments. Enjoy!
(Sorry about the shitty quality, I'm going to re-upload the whole run later on)

Meowch luck to you.
Oh my, those videos were awesome! Well done J.Y! Me and loopaddict were planning on making an SF1 run of our own, but judging from these clips I think we shouldn't bother. Instead, we're planning on redoing and improving our SF2 run, this time with hard mode.

Can't wait to watch the whole run.
Thank you very much!
It's been awhile since I've seen any activity from you, but it's nice that you have found your way back here!
Yeah, my new run is a lot better than the last one, it's about 7 minutes faster than the last run so I'm pretty happy with it Smiley

I think that you two should definitely do a new run on SF 2! Not that the current one is bad, not at all, but with the new discoveries like the kneeling glitch and buttonskip-glitches, I think that you could improve the run by at least a couple of minutes. And if you want any help or feedback, I'll gladly provide you with it.
Strange days, incredible days
Great stuff J.Y! It's awesome to see this game run at such a high level, with a lot of skips I had no idea about back in the day. Skipping the wire hang in Destroyed Subway is especially cool. Looking forward to watching the whole run.
Off-topic update:
While I don't have anything new stuff regarding this run, I just wanted to tell you all that on this day fifteen years ago, Syphon Filter was released in USA! So if there's any game that you should play tonight, it should be this one Wink
Strange days, incredible days
Great, now I feel old Tongue
I've been wondering what's going on with the run, I signed up to verify it but I guess there weren't enough other people. Is it going to public verification?

Yeah, this game is starting to get old now. First time I played it was at the age of 10, in late 2000 Tongue
Yes, it's going to public verification. I've sent all the files and comments so hopefully it will be available any given day.
I've also uploaded the whole run on Youtube, but I've not made it public yet. Will do so once the verification process is up and going Smiley

By the way, I did a SS run last night, clocking in at 1:20:07. I was doing great up until the Catacombs, where Lian started to die over and over again. This is an improvment with about 5 min since the last time I played the game, but it's still a really bad time. Without any major mistakes, I think that sub 1:10:xx would be a pretty good time.
Meowch luck to you.
Make it public already! I want to see it! Smiley
The new run is now on public verification and youtube! Check out the first post for links Smiley

Meowch luck to you.
YES! Gonna watch it now.

EDIT: Congrats J.Y! The run is mindblowingly good. A couple highlights:

Pharcom Expo Centre - Me and loopaddict had also found out the trick to get past Phagan at the beginning of the mission when we were planning on running this game, but it was nice to see how fast you killed the guards after that. I always thought that the alarm would be triggered immediately when enemies see you.

Base Bunker - Very nice aiming. The shooting trick works well in this level.

Base Tower - So fast! And the pause-trick was cool.

Base Escape - Shortcut at 0:23! Very nice.

Tunnel Blackout - Again, very nice aiming. As someone who knows how frustrating it is to manual aim in this game, I think you've done great job. Also, what the heck happens at 1:05? The guard just stands there while you go past him. Cheesy

I'm eager to start re-running SF2 after seeing this run. I love Syphon Filter <3
Congrats! The run is awesome!
Thanks guys! Although I not sure I think my run is mindblowingly good... Tongue
It would be nice if you could just take a quick look at the verification thread and write a line or two there, would really appreciate it Smiley

Kopeekka: Yes, the button skip glitch works great in SF1 too, especially on Base Bunker. I believe it was you who found that glitch?
And yeah, that guard at 1:05 is something. I found out about that when I did my first run, it's really funny how he just stands there without doing anything Grin

I just remembered something about SF2: Last year I was fooling around on the first level when I found something new (to me at least). I have seen in your videos that if you hang on to something when a cutsceens starts, you'll be hanging on the same spot when the cutsceen is over. So I tried to see if I could get that to work at the part where the tunnel collapses, and it sure did! You can go the "wrong way" in the tunnel, hang onto something, and still be on the same spot after the cutsceen ends, in other words on the "wrong side" of the blocked tunnel. Sadly, it seems that you can't finish the level because you haven't completed all objectives. But maybe you knew about that already?

Hey,

Awesome job with the run J.Y.!
Congrats! : )
