I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Would love to see a speedrun of those two games. Also, "Deep Space Nine: The Fallen" would be fun too.

I think I saw my friend Andrew playing some Star Trek game once. He was kicking the absolute shit out of some borg with this cool gun that changed itself after every shot or something.... can't remember.

Elite Force 2 on hardest is seriously difficult. On easy it shouldn't be a big problem though. This would be a nice game to see with cutscenes since it is structured like a TV episode, or even a movie. Maybe one day I'll be able to record. Until then no chance.

Until you're able to record? What does that mean? Do you not know of any recording programs for the PC? o.o

Mentally able to record. I kind of followed the discussions about recording, so if I can do it straight by myself on PC it'd be fine. VCR is no option at the moment. I just don't have the willpower to check things out right now.

Both are types of games that would be quite watchable as speedruns. Smiley

Go to either here or here if you're looking for a place to start. Go to either website and on either search engine, search either: CamTasia or FRAPs. If you're running XP or Windows2000, you should be fine with either programs. Anyways, those are recording programs for the PC, and those two websites would be, download.com and snapfiles.com, just incase you're worried about a fake link or something ^_^

Oh, and if CamTasia and FRAPs don't come up, just keep searching for recording programs... freeware of course. Also if you're running WIN98 or something like I am, don't even bother looking for live capturing programs, NOTHING works with WIN98, just a heads up.

Anyways, get some will power immediately  >:(..... Grin

I am considering doing this. Which doesn't mean its actually going to happen...
Anyway, has somebody else played this game? I would start with EF1, and if somebody knows any tricks it would be greatly appreciated.

Double post! There is so much interest for this game, it's amazing...

For whoever is interested: I am going to do EF1. My PC is not the greatest, Fraps almost kills my framerate, and the game engine itself is not the best ever made. So don't expect miracles. Plus I have no idea what the time will be.

I'll just keep myself updated. Grin

Elite Force 1 is done. Right now I'm encoding the last segments. It's in 38 parts (I know that's a lot, but it's my first run), and I still have to time the ending. With some luck it'll be under 1:30.

Verifiers? Watchers?? Anybody??? :-[

I would watch it. I like that game!
I'm sorry, I've never played EF1 - but I played EF2. And if I remember right that at least EF2 was using a modified Quake3 engine or so. I don't know about EF1 - if it is a quake engine game then you also could have the game recorded and replayed it later so you wouldn't have that high frame drop. However, if you'll be ever going for EF2 let me know.

I'd watch your EF1 run anyway, however I can't give tips or "real" feedback since I haven't played the game.

Hey, JediTry!

Thanks so much for doing that. I wish I saw the responses sooner but I was away for a while. I'd be willing to watch your recordings. I did play EF1 but it was ages ago. And I have yet to play EF2. Post the links if you find a host and I'll gladly check out EF1. Not sure if I can suggest any tricks, since it's been a while but at least I'll watch it with great enjoyment. Smiley

I am still encoding, reducing resolutions and other things. I'm also having trouble sending samples to Radix, so this will take some time. The run - if it gets accepted - will probably be up in a month or so. I hope.

As for the engine I am not sure. It looks exactly like Doom 3 - no shortcuts, no bunny hopping, no grenade jumping, no nothing. Even jumping down to lower levels makes you die instantly (scripted death... I hate it). In short: it sucks. Maybe EF2 is different. I might have a go at that once I finish tranlocating.
I wonder how speedrunners have real lives...
Whats the time we are looking at for this run, I have begun running EF1 and am getting some routes down, but so far I think for my first run through the game in 2 years I have remembered it quite well, was only puzzled by some of the hidden routes needed a few times.

Has anyone running this noticed that whenever you need to get in an elevator they take fucking forever, only one of them will walk at a time, waiting for this can easily take 5 minutes, and on the scavenger ship, there are countless elevators, and they wont move till the whole team is on them.

Another thing I would like to ask is if people have nailed down alot of the on voyager scene triggers, alot of the time I have had to just run around kinda randomly until they all assemble in the teleporter room with me, and they walk almost as fast as they do for elevators :-D

Enough rambling for me, if you can understand anything I said, a few tips would be appreciated.

Well, my run is done, but I am moving and my computer is on the edge of being fucked - hard drive failure. I'll be in the new place in a week, and if the HD holds until then I'll finish compressing and others. My time, as far as I remember was 1h 36min... maybe...
The elevators suck. The only thing to do is to wait (in the scavenger ship) and to kill everything as fast as possible (before the pact with the Borg). On Voyager it's the same thing. I went nuts before the scavengers mission. Nothing helps though - except a banned glitch. Dying throws you in the brigg, but you can go on with the next mission anyway. You health goes up to how it was before though, and the time is being cut. I am sure nobody, not even Radix would prefer to watch the whole thing, but I figured it's a matter of consistency within the rules.
Good luck with your run! I'm very curious as to who is going to have the faster time in the end. Are you playing in normal?
I wonder how speedrunners have real lives...
Yes, I am playing on normal, I hav the time cut to about 1:15 right now, went through and looked at the triggers for the voyager levels, so I can pretty much get them to start going to the teleporter room right away instead of wandering around. I tried to rocket jump the elevators but you dont get the photon cannon soon enough for it to be really helpful to you, and you have a 99% chance of killing yourself, and the boost is minimal.

I think this game should be played with cutscenes or it just makes no sense at all, if radix will allow me, I want to include the cutscenes because they are really nice and informative, but not have them count for time.

I'm addicted to games
As I have said countless times before, this is NOT A CUTSCENE SITE.

I will NEVER take the time to remove cutscenes from a game that you could've skipped. And if i send a run to a verifier who tells me a runner could've skipped cutscenes but didn't, I'll simply reject the run.
Why would people include cutscenes on a speedrun anyways? If cutscenes tack on time, why put them in? People want to see how fast you can run the game, not to know the entire story of a game. If people want to know the plot of the story, rent the game. If this game has too many cutscenes, well, master how to press ESC or the A button so you can speed your way through  Grin
I wonder how speedrunners have real lives...
rm -rf /speedruns/stvef/

:-D guess I am starting over then.
Semi-retired FPS expert
The cutscenes are nice, in a way, but way too long. I'd never have the patience to wait for the whole damn thing to be over. Originally I included the ending sequence, but cut that one in my next attempt.
1:15 sounds like my run will never get up. Oh well, I'll try to finalize it anyway, since it was fun to do.
I wonder how speedrunners have real lives...
it will be a few weeks before I have mine done, to be fair I dont know what the time on my run will be next run though, so I encourage you to keep your run going.

The Voyager mission I was referring to is later on. I know that at the beginning the team goes to the teleporter room faster if you talk to them in a special order. The problem is in the bar, after you talk to Telsia *before they look out of the windows and see the ship). There's nothing I could find that speeds up the level. It's very annoying.
I wonder how speedrunners have real lives...
I have discovered I am unable to speedrun this game for space limitations and the inability to record quake3 dem files in singleplayer(you can do it in multiplayer, why the hell did they removed the function from singleplayer.

25 minutes takes  my harddrive space currently even at low resolution.

JediTry, I would like to get in touch with you so we can trade tips and tricks about the game, maybe I can help you cut down some time. I will try to do a run of elite force 2 if anyone is interested, I have heard it allows demo recordings, but I cutscenes are much harder to skip and alot more waiting around if memory serves me correctly.

I love the cutscenes and it *does* make watching the speedruns more fun, regardless of what radix said. But if there's no other way to get your demo in, then skip them by all means, if you can.

Keep it up, guys. I hope to see the demos soon. Smiley

EDIT: Btw, it's been a long time but I remember a mission on Borg vessel where you had a choice to save some StarFleet member being experimented on. Did you guys leave him to die or save his butt?  Grin
