Hey people I'm new in Speedruns. I had done only one Speedrun of Zelda Twilight Princess. But I have a question. There is an especific route that you have to follow in the Speedrun or you can do your route? I make this question because in my speedrun of Zelda TP any %, I have done another alternative route, and in SDA Zelda TP speedruns there is an any% route. The question is, I MUST follow this route put it by SDA or I can do whatever I want in my Speedrun? (I'm not talking about if the speedrun is in Single Sement, any%, and I know, without using cheats (all of this I knew it))

You can have fun any way you want.

But if you would want to submit a run to SDA or another site like speedrun.com then you should stick to the official categories. There are some very rare exceptions but generally it's Any%, Low%, 100% and maybe glitchless.
Ok thank you Cheesy
Note that you can do any route that meets the category, but if you want to beat a record, then either you should a) follow the route other runners use (the easy way), or b) find another route that's faster (which is not easy in a game that's as studied as Twilight Princess, but is probably not impossible either). Coming up with routes is a skill on its own.
OKok, in conclusion, you can do whatever you want with your rute in your speedrun xD no?

You can do whatever you want as long as it fits your category.

Also, this should probably be in SDA discussion, because it discusses SDA rules, rather than in Knowledge Base.

Also, @ShadowDraft I wouldn't say that other categories are rare, different categories for different difficulties and different characters etc are quite common. And don't forget that single segment runs are in a different category from segmented runs.

Common or not in most cases it's arbitrary territory. I've only listed the standard definitions to avoid confusion. I did forget to mention the segmentation choices but those are a different kinda category in my mind.

Segmentation can be done in single segment (one go without quitting the game), RTA or Real Time Attack (you can reload the game and continue your run), the highly optimized IL 'Individual Level' or segmented way where the former just does a single level until the time is close to perfect and the latter just does the complete game in several segments which is done for Any% mainly.

That should be it. I think.
And I don't undertand one thing, which is the diference between Single Sement and any%?  In Single Sement you can use glitches didn't you?

Single Segment, RTA, and segmented are simply the way that you portion the run. You can have an any% single segment run, a low% single segment, an any% segmented, etc. The % category does not have to determine the segmenting or lack thereof. Most runs tend to be any% single segment but the two are not mutually exclusive with each other.

You can use glitches in single segment though if you mess up a glitch and hit the reset button and continue it becomes an RTA (or single segment with resets). Most runners tend to do RTAs since that is faster than plain single segment, but it varies on the game and category. Also, some people call single segment and RTA the same thing so there can be some confusion there.
