I'm seriously considering making a segmented run of SOMA, and I'll probably do levels that have the most potential for future finds last, and work on them the most. I've already done a Theta Exit run:
I'll be adding little optimizations here and there, for example hopping over the empty water pool at the end at 1:48.
The levels don't need to be done in order, since nothing is carried over through map transitions, only stream triggers. I've done a chapter 0 segmented run already, which will be uploaded sometime today. If anyone finds segmented optimizations, for example at Omicron lean swooping to grab the gel, and even obvious ones, please post them. Thanks.

Uh, no? Objects are often carried over. Damage is also not reset.
I was watching Cromish and LivingLooneyBin racing and LivingLooneyBin actually went for the 3 parts without activating the suit for the first time. So once you get to the suit room you plug in the omnitool, open the console and interact with the suit. After that you can actually run out of the room and collect the 3 parts. When you return with the 3 parts, the console should start loading where you left off.
Just to elaborate, when you return to the room in omicron you need to wait for Cath to start saying that you can try again before you activate the suit. If you don't, all the dialogue you skipped will play and you have to activate it twice.
Things are carried over? What? After the ARK simulation, using Apjjm's route, you jump down and take damage, but you get healed right after the load. Also, You don't pick up the omnitool or any of it's upgrades for that matter, and since nothing from before is carried over, and the game assumes you grabbed it, just gives it to you, am I right? It's definitely easier for the devs to test things that way.
So I checked out a few LP videos of taking out the robots at Delta, and the dialogue for both robots is the same length. Looks like it's down to whichever one you can kill quicker (K8 lands closer to the landing platform and is always really close at the start).
The dialogue for both robots may be the same length, but the big robot takes 3 stun gun hits while K8 takes 5 hits (4 to get it on the ground and the fifth to get the chip). Now, the stun gun only has 5 charges in it. When the gun runs out of charges it has a long animation of showing you it's "empty" - this blocks inserting the chip into the omnitool. If we can find a way only using 4 stun gun hits on K8 - it might be faster.
I want to work on segmenting Omicron next, and I'll be using quicksaving. Since quicksaves are overwritten, I'll make backups of all the saves. Can I load Omicron outside from the debug menu (I probably won't due to some sound issues). I'll just do Theta exit and use the autosave after. They're the same otherwise. Also, I figured out that you can pause the game, then quicksave, instead of frantically searching for F9 after nailing a hard trick. I've found differences between menu saving and loading, and quick saving and loading. In Omicron outside, menu loading stops music that was playing when you saved, and quick loading restarts the music. I really hope quick saving is valid, because it would save me so much effort! Including not re-doing finished segments... Thank you.
Does anyone know what CheckPoint.sav files are for? They get updated every time you save. I've been renaming them and putting them alongside my quicksaves, but I don't know if it's necessary. It must be there for a reason...
During a run something weird happened that I only noticed after the run. It seems that the Tau outside end door disappeared when the fish clipped into it:
Allows entering before the door animation completes as it blocks you for some time. Small timesaver, but you need to manipulate the fish AI. I think what makes the fish spawn and follow me is the fact that I am propflying above/outside the "safe" path.
EDIT: Video is now unlisted instead of private. My bad.

Yo, I'm that new guy to this community, I come from teh fripic stream, and I wanna help make this run even more broken. Is there a skype group or something? If yes, can someone add me? my skype is noname-x3 i think i'm using the same picture as in this forum.
Coming to the point, I already found something cute. In 01_01 you can clip into the small vent kind of thing where the cutscene with the strange octopus thing is, I don't know what to call it. So you can skip the cutscene and go into the vent immediately

I've just made a Discord group - its basically like an irc channel/skype group. It's free, no registration required, works from your browser or standalone app. Also has a HQ voice channel. Anyone is welcome to join.

I'm sorry but no. You can't do segments out of order in this game. That's not how it works.
If you're not up to grinding out segments .. then a segmented run is not for you. I told you that several hundred hours went into the TDD segmented run if you can't deal with that stop. Or get other people involved like the source community did with their segmented runs.

New route for Tau inside - does not require getting an object OOB, reducing the RNG factor for non-segmented running. Could someone time the difference of these routes executed perfectly? I'm curious to see how far they are apart.
The new route with physics debug enabled so you can see the geometry. Rest of the route should be self explanatory.

YESSSSSSS!!!!! Thank you so much! This is what I've been waiting for... I knew there had to be some better skip for this godforsaken place...
Just to note, now that we don't need the prop anymore, those who wish to do so can return to the old route to get OoB: http://www.twitch.tv/cromish/v/17654947
