Prize Submissions for SGDQ 2016 are Closed, thank you to everyone who submitted.

Quote from SMK:
Submission now requires login/registration (the page should redirect you to a login page). If you go to the registration page linked from the login, you can use your email to register (it should be straightforward, if it doesn't work, let me know). Once you're logged in, it should work normally again.

The reason why we're doing this is to help make keeping track of shipping more streamlined after the event. If anything seems amiss, please post here or PM me. [SMK]

Edit: I'm aware it would make more sense to be able to use your gdq account to do this, that's the plan eventually :p

The deadline for prize submissions will be June 26th at 11:59PM PDT (a week before the start of the marathon). If you are creating a prize for the marathon and you are not sure if you can make this deadline, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate you on a case by case basis.

Submitted prizes are not publicly visible until they are accepted, and you can find a list of accepted prizes: Here

If you are planning to submit multiple similar or smaller prizes, such as perlers, patches, or figures, and feel strongly about keeping them together as a set, please make this information known. Generally, we will split groups of similar smaller items into individual prizes instead of keeping them together as a single prize.

While you prepare to make your submissions, feel free to show off your potential prize donations here. This thread can also be used for posting progress on prizes you're making yourself, or just for asking any questions you may have about prizes or how the submission process will work.

GUIDELINES

Check out the Schedule (Schedule) for the games you can submit prizes for.

Take a good picture of your prize and host it through a reliable image hosting site, such as imgur or photobucket. Please also take measurements and weigh your prize. The numbers don't have to be perfect, but pictures can be deceptive when it comes to size and weight, and it helps for us to have a good ballpark estimate on the dimensions of your prize.

At GDQ events we really love showcasing all of the unique items both made and acquired by the community. As a result, we generally do not accept digital prizes (i.e. Steam codes) for the main event. [UPDATE: Steam keys are acceptable if they are directly donated by the developer] However, if you happen to have a really cool digital prize, we may do a social media giveaway; we are also no longer able to accept Reproduction Cartridges as prizes for our events.

If you have any additional questions or concerns or would just like to talk about prizes, leave a post in the thread, or feel free to contact us directly at Prizes@gamesdonequick.com

Too bad you can't take repro games anymore.  I'll have to come up with something else to donate
Excellent!
I have a question, are we able to submit actual games as prizes? I was considering offering a japanese copy of wario world game (in it's original case contents).

Certainly, physical copies of games, are perfectly acceptable submissions.

Before I go looking for a box, do you think there would interest and the organizers would be ok paying for shipping this Super Mario Sunshine standee?

http://imgur.com/a/UzYLi

the piece alone is just under 4 pounds, so its not over weight, just cumbersome.

Hmm, any chance it might fold up at all?  If you wouldn't mind giving me the exact dimensions (just the longest and widest points) I might be able to come up with a creative shipping solution. But I think it would be fine either way.

The image titled "back" is also an image of it folded up as much as I could: http://imgur.com/a/UzYLi

I can fold it back up (need to anyway because the basement is getting finished) and give you an estimate on shipping dimensions. I just wondered if people wanted standees because they were so big. If we think its worth it, then consider it donated.

EDIT/UPDATE: When folder as flat as it seems that it can go, its roughly 34 x 39 x 1.

What does everyone think a good entry value is for something like this ? $10? $20?

To be perfectly honest, that field has kind of been obsoleted by the value field, although I could see $10 or $15 both being very reasonable for it.

Update: Hey guys, my harddrive died on me. We are currently aware of an issue with submitting prizes through the form. Anyone having trouble should instead just email their submission to Prizes@gamesdonequick.com and I should be able to manually input it into the system

Update the Sequel: Thanks to UA and SMK for fixing the problem, everything should be good with the registration and submission system, but please let us know if anything looks incorrect.

Question about prize size.

I have a design I'm working on that will 28inx24in when finished. Is that too big? It's not going to be heavy, it's wall art so it's also thin. I'm just at the stage where I'm going to start making this thing, so if there's a size issue I want to hammer that out now when it's easy to adjust. I see that the standee is still larger than mine, but I still want to check.

Thanks.
Double post, but oh well.

I wanted to get a little feed back on what I'm making now, and not just the size.

So my favorite t-shirt at AGDQ2016 was the "Our Weird Maker" design by Drew Wise. So I reached out to him recently to see if he'd be cool with me using that design for a prize. He said yes, so I'm showing it off now.

It's going to be a 3D wall art recreation of the Our Weird Maker design. The back panel, see last post, is 28x24 in and the Mario is about 25x12.5 in. (tallxwide)

Here's some images for what it'll look like (3D render).

http://i.imgur.com/hIiYit0.png

The pieces are being 3d printed out right now, by me, but I'm cleaning them up and making molds of them to ultimately make one large mold of the final Mario. I'll then paint it and mount it on a yellow plastic panel I'll order later.

Here's a progress pic of the first arm and some of the other blocks I've printed out:
http://i.imgur.com/jKQQT5g.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/ZMpycp3.jpg

This is also kind of a sanity check. This isn't too "out there" for a GDQ prize is it? I'm also not entirely sure where to put the minimum bid at. Materials wise I'm already over $200 bucks, and that's going to go up. But looking at past prize minimum bids I've been thinking $25-30 for this. I mean, the Pinball machine was $75 min bid and that must have been waaaay more expensive than what I'm making.

Also it's clearly got to go in the Super Mario Maker slot, but that's also all by itself. There also isn't really a good solid Mario Block to put it in. I guess I could start it at Super Mario Land the morning before SMM and have it go all day, if it's not an issue being open over the MegaMan block between.

Well that's all I have right now. I'll definitely have it done for final pictures and submission by June 26th. Just wanted to get out ahead of that in case there were any issues, and to figure out the best options for the rest of the submission form.

Thanks!

@Crain - FWIW, I like it.
Well thanks, I'm having a blast making it.
Sent, I intend on producing a few more sets of coasters from Acrylicpress.com

Do I need to have it finished and printed out prior to the 26th?

This will be identical in style to the Mega Man Coasters I made last time. I'm thinking of doing a Super Mario set and maybe another one on top this time around.
Go Faster!
@dan:  That would be preferable, but let me know if that timing doesn't work out, things should be OK as long as I have a picture of what the finished product would look like

@crain:  I think it's a really cool idea, especially if I could find the shirt to go with it, but admittedly I do have some concerns. The Standee is admittedly still up in the air, it's large but one of the points it has going for it is that it's flat and there's essentially nothing to break.  How durable do you think the finished project might be?
Edit history:
Crain: 2016-05-23 02:44:57 pm
As far as weight goes it'll be around 7lbs based on the material properties and a rough estimate on how much I'm planning on using.

The plastic panel will be 1/8in thick and pretty resilient on it's own. The Mario is also going to be a single piece that I'll be screwing onto the plastic panel. It shouldn't be particularly fragile. It should be shipped in an art box like one from here: https://airfloatsys.com/ which I can provide as well.

If you're still worried I have back up ideas that can easily use instead.
Go Faster!
Admittedly, I would be interested in hearing some of the backup ideas, just to sate my own curiosity; but those are some very reasonable answers and I am certainly much less worried about shipping it now.

I was wondering if I could donate a few of these guys to the event, or if they'd be too small. Tiny little metroid charms (this was a picture during the process of making them). They can sit on top of a dime for size comparison. I'd send more than one, but again unsure if they'd be too small.

Also want to make a perler or two, but those are just ideas at the moment ;w;
@Sent

Here two junky proof-of-concepts. Basically I have an idea for making a series of designs around "movement tech" from popular speed runs. The one I've posted is the backwards long jump up the stairs from Mario64. I could do keychains, or anything really. I did have an idea of making "technical drawings", basically blueprints, of the moves as well. Link to pic: http://i.imgur.com/uxK7AkK.png Ignore the colors, they're just there to make the design easier to see, CAD doesn't have a great color system.

The other is GDQ branded coasters. I have a blank modeled up right now, and the idea is to make a bunch of them with different sprites tiled along the blank areas around the GDQ logo. Link: http://i.imgur.com/bfcMajI.png

Both are easy to print quickly and paint up a bit. Or leave unpainted. Either way.

@Crain

I actually love that concept, it's a fun reference to speed running while still being something recognizable to the general public.

Thanks. I don't want to use it quite yet though. I was thinking of saving it for the next AGDQ so I can flesh it out more. I'm planning on doing about 5 designs for the major speed running games.

-BLJ for Mario64
-Shinespark for Metroid
-Either supersliding, constantly rolling, or backflipping to get through doors for Zelda OoT
-Moonwalking for Castlevania SOTN
-Zipping in Megaman

And maybe any others that come to mind and are easy to translate to a 2d image.

Hello!

Ahdok here. I have a comic I drew today that I could pitch in for the Megaman block. here's the comic:

http://comicpress.socksandpuppets.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/632megamans.jpg

The original is slightly different, as I touch up digitally slightly - the significant difference is the bottom middle pair are reversed in position:

http://www.socksandpuppets.com/misc/art/megamans2.jpg

Physical item is currently an A5 sheet of 300GSM card, I'm willing to post it anywhere you specify. If you want it.

Before sending it, I'd mount it on a sheet of mountboard, just to make it look nice, and take a good photo. (and I should probably sign it on the back or something. People tend to like that kind of thing.)

Lemme know if you want it!

Oh, I see the link to the submissions form above the quote in the topic. I am a derp. Have submitted there.
This is just a dumb idea, but if someone were to donate a bootleg cart of Grand Dad (aka Flintstones Surprise at Dinosaur Peak) do you think that'd get people to donate towards that as a donation incentive for that run

@Figh16: I think it could be an interesting submission, but I'm not seeing it on the list of donation incentives. Although I might just be blind

I would love to donate! Super Mario RPG is my favorite, so I made my favorite character from there. I registered and submitted.
I crocheted this Mallow out of very soft fuzzy yarn:

He is 7 inches tall from soles of his feet to top of his curl, little over six inches wide with his arms at his side.
As for weight, it's super light and doesn't register on my scale (just yarn and stuffing) I'd guess under 5 oz for sure with a packaging.

Do we ship it out to you and then you ship it to the winner? Or are we responsible for shipping it to the winner? (Or will all this info be provided in the email if accepted?)
