We're looking for someone with true enthusiasm and excitement for video game speedrunning, who is willing to step up to the plate and accept this challenge.  No one has yet to do a full speedrun for POSTAL 1 so come and be the first to master this cult classic.

Free Steam key to serious applicants!
Thread title:
Iha paska
I would really like to see this as well, having played the game a while back it really felt like a potential game for running.
Brought this up during a postal2 race I had recently with Svenne, would be really cool to see one done.

I mainly recall having some minor issues with the controls and getting the game to run properly but other than that, it's very similar to games like the old Finnish DOS game "Tapan kaikki" and the more recent Hotline Miami.

I think they fixed those issues in the Steam release, though.

Sounds like a really cool idea, and I really hope someone picks up on it.
Sure did!  We also switched it to hardware rendering (was software) so in theory Fraps should work okay with it.  Basically anyone that does this will be doing Running With Scissors a favor because we suck too much to find a good time for the speed run achievement.

Borderlands 2 Glitch Hunter/ router.
you want a speedrun achievement, however, when games are speedrun we tend to break them as much as we can and generally this can create a stupidly low time, however its not intuitive at all, therefore its very very unlikely that regular gamers would be able to match it.

I'm Presuming that you would like someone to do a Glitchless "quick playthrough" without glitches so other people have an actual chance?

I personally might have a look at the game, however, the first thing I always do is..... look for glitches, it's just the way my brain works lol
Yeah, I mean it's not to set the high end target, just would like to see how well a ninja could do, but without glitches. I don't think there is any interest but it was worth asking.
ChickenB0h BOH! :D
postal 1 eh? I would love to see this run too, hope some crazy runner will find this thread and give it a try Cheesy
I guess, if I still can, I'll accept this challenge...as daunting as it sounds. Wink

Sounds like a bit of fun, right? Cheesy
If you could it would be great, we'll even update the credits to get you in there.

Basically we'd want to you run through the game, don't use cheats and maybe play on default level 5 difficultly.  No glitched but other than that use any method you want to do the run through.  Do you need a P1 key?
If I could get a key, that'd be great.

Those rules sound good, I'll make a note. Should be good.

Wish me luck I guess? Cheesy
Now just to hope you can record it okay! I'll send you a key, thanks.
On my phone, not my account, but I'd you still would like another to run the game (to get a more averaged time) then I'll offer to help out.
i'm a GOD
I'd also be down to help with this project. If anything at least help route glitchless and find some useful tricks. I'll pick up a copy ASAP
I won't lie - I've been playing a bit and I'm having trouble doing it bleedin casually! Tongue Maybe I'm just bad, I'm only on level 6! (Of 20! :S)

I think the trick seems to be to use the machine gun for most semi-stronger dudes, shotgun for the weaker ones and explosives (nades/molotovs) for the bigger dudes. (i.e. rocket launchers etc) I'm progressing a lot more when I'm being a little more conservative, but it seems really easy to die.

Learning to aim nades/molotovs seems to be a skill that needs to be picked up. I feel that if multiple dudes could be knocked out with explosives, with ease, that would help.

Also managing to exploit enemy explosive throwers. Especially molotov throwers, they can wreck all your opposition. The only problem is getting trapped in the fire...On that note, getting set on fire and lighting everyone else!

If anyone wants to add me on Skype to chat it over, my name is 'pricklyman1'.
It's a hard game which offers little feedback (We're considering patching in a scoring / multiplier system).  Appreciate the help guys.
You guys might be better off doing score and time achievements based on specific missions instead of the total game in that case

Just tested recording capabilities - success!

I rendered it out in crappy 360p because I couldn't be bothered sitting around waiting for it render well for just a test! Tongue

Either way - that's kinda what a run of the first level would look like - except with less mistakes and getting hit with explosives etc.
Awesome! Glad you got that all worked out. Thanks again for your time in this.

It's one of those games that just needs a speed run achievement I think, but we'll probably ad another level / score based one should be go ahead with a scoring system.

Alright, now that my exam period is at an end (well, except for that piss easy one in a couple of days :P) I have actually started runs.

(Encoded with Anri-Chan - HQ - no editing) (About 10MB this side - 3.7GB coming out of Fraps)

Things to note:

- Fire is great at the beginning...not so much at the end. Fire appears to be a guaranteed kill on anyone over time...but at the very end of the level - you have to wait for it to take effect and count.
- The shotgun takes out the "normal" guys in two shots - but everyone else takes a metric ton. That's why grenade placement is so important for anyone who isn't a small fry.
- That bit near the end with the rocket / dynamite dude throwing stuff at you is really hard - primarily because you can get stun-locked with explosives. Getting the rocket dude then circling back is essential, just to survive.
- I'd like to abuse the molotov throwers more - but where they run is so RNG...where they throw...oh good god the lot is bloody RNG!
- I'm bad, and I'm moving on from this level. The run is no where near even great or good - but it's a...placeholder time for now. I'll come back to it of course, but for now, I'll do level 2 and onwards...

So yeah, if anyone else is tackling this project along with me, I'd be interested to know what you've found out / done / etc!
It's a far better run than I've managed lol.  Really good work, and just having someone who's a skilled gamer handle this is really helpful even if you never manage a run that makes you proud.

PS, just in case you were not aware of this, you can press F to duck rockets ,and this can really be a help sometimes.
I knew about the ducking rockets - the trick is to have them dead BEFORE you need to duck :P.

But yeah, cheers. I'm still working on this, just got a bit sidetracked with other games. I won't lie...I kinda got another Humble Bundle etc etc.
All good you're helping us out and I appreciate it.

hello, world!
Hehe, I was playing more last night and now I'm just having too much fun with it (haven't even loaded up my amnesia: a machine for pigs yet)

I do love postal 2, but this darker theme is pretty fucking cool. Way different feel to it... I haven't bothered trying to time anything yet, maybe I'll start that today and see if I can beat your 1:32... I'm tempted to also see a timing for a 100% kills category, because I'm a sadistic asshole, but I guess that can be for later.

(Honestly I'm more interested in seeing the steam community shit itself when this achievement shows up, people already crying because of the linux/osx achievement, this is going to be gold.)
God damn it! Competition?! Wink

The 1:32 was full of mistakes, so beating it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

The other thing is that to keep consistency - I now have to play level one again - ending with the same amount of supplies as in the run I completed. Shouldn't be too hard, just a pain! So any time I think I did a good run now, I'm going to actually save the file in a different save slot.

hello, world!
ha! no competition here man, I'm just toying around with stuff... no way I have the energy to route the entire game... I got frustrated once I hit the air force base on a casual play through Wink

I was also going to point out that if someone were to try to route the entire game ammo/weapon management would be necessary since I don't see a 'individual level' table starting up.

If you work hard enough on optimization there's some crazy routes/times that could be achieved... NPC manipulation for example, you can take advantage of the heavy dudes (rockets, flame, etc) to take out other enemies for you while you stroll on by

Here's level one in 1:21 or 1:22 or something... http://www.twitch.tv/droogie1xp/c/2910714

Although we're getting this level done in under 1:30... I would probably say that the expected par for it to be under 2:00 (for the achievment concern)... just because majority of my attempts were between high 30's - 40's... I was only able to achieve the time above with the well placed throws, etc.

I'm assuming once there is a 'par' in place for each level the achievement would be to just finish the game under the total time... it would be super useful and probably more motivating for people to try to do levels faster if you patched in a statistics screen at the end of each level (maybe something similar to doom/quake/duke3d/etc)
