Anyone still playing?

Building bridges: 4:04.
Fire Emblem?
Indeed. I think that some people have technical issues (with resolution and whatnot) while others just don't have enough time.

Have you made any progress with recording videos, 20-100?

Nah, I've just been playing now and then trying to come up with some solid paths first. I might know someplace where I could record the final run but if I'm going to record at a friends house I don't want to sit there for hours and hours for a clean run of course.

Fire in the mist: 4:03. Pretty funny strategy used here, and can be improved significantly where my old 4:08 was pretty smooth.

ED- 3:59
Edit 2 - JEEBUS 3:28. That was recording-worthy Cheesy
Edit 82592 - Wow, 3:24. Can go down to 3:15 at best I think without a change of strategy.
Edit 82593 - Hehe, 3:15. That was about as good as it gets. Not playing this unrecorded anymore.

I think I need a new videocard anyways Tongue
I assume you are referring to the lag that is caused by running in Direct3D mode, and not the lag caused by recording with Fraps.
I wouldn't say the graphics card is what is causing the lag, but that the driver is at fault.
From my tests, all of the NVIDIA computers I have tried Populous on recently have lagged in Direct3D mode.
Since I have played Populous on those computers before, without issues, I am convinced that it is the drivers that are the problem, which means that NVIDIA broke the compatibility with Populous at some time.
I did not have the time to test old drivers, but I will try that the next time I have access to a computer with an NVIDIA graphics card.
I suggest that you try old versions of the NVIDIA driver before you go and buy yourself another graphics card.
Even if you were to buy a brand new NVIDIA graphics card, I am pretty certain Populous would still lag.
My current computer has an ATI card, which is why I don't have these issues.

Yeah I remember playing populous lagfree as well in D3D mode on older pcs. But lots of new games are freezing on my pc as well (running fine then suddenly freezing) so if you know where to find a good older drive I'm all ears, because I've searched my bottoms off.

My card is a geforce 8600 GT.
A google search away, I found this.
It got drivers way back from 2002.

i wanted to ask if the quality of this video is good enough?
Fire Emblem?
That looks fine, except for the box in the middle of the screen plus boxes on the corners, and of course the lack of sound.

Are there any vids from online matches of 2 good/great players for me to look at? I can't find anything on youtube that's more than a few minutes, and I'd love to see how they build bases efficiently etc.
Fire Emblem?
Have you looked on http://popre.net/ ? Try the forums and stuff, see what you can find. Or ask a good player for a demonstation via the matchmater :D.

And, having re-watched that video, I think the framerate might be a little low as well. Good time, though, it looks like there could be a bit more to shave off as well by attacking the huts at the back quicker, but maybe that's not possible (I didn't play a lot of attention to your mana).

i can try to set the frame rate higher, but i hope i won't have more alg then. How high should i set the frame-rate? And yes it can be done quicker, I'm not a quick player and i even made it in 2:40 one time. But I'm sure 2:30 is possible without lag
On my last run, level 13, I recorded in 24 fps. I have used 15 fps in all my other recordings.
What program do you use to record?

bsr screen recorder, all other progs give me weird colours like this:
I use Fraps, which works kinda good. Try setting the process priority of the program recording (in my case, Fraps) to low. I'm not entirely sure but I think that makes it lag less.
Fire Emblem?
DAroo, I know this is quite late, but I've had a look through the rules and it does look like poor quality isn't strictly forbidden, although to use SDA's own words, 'We're a bit picky about audio/video quality'. I've added your videos into the first post, although I recommend you contact an admin on the tech forums to find out if the quality is okay and also about custom resolution (there is a topic about that made by me there, I don't think any admins replied, though).

ReCover: 2009-03-15 12:23:06 pm
I don't think DAroo's current videos have much chance of getting through the verification, because of the third party program that changed the resolution. Also, the graphical glitches look really weird, is that because of the recording software? Does anyone know if sound is required? It would be a lot more enjoyable with sound in any case.

I have been able to test old nvidia drivers, and the latest driver which I could find that Populous runs well with, is 163.75.
i will try again with a cracked versin now and 15 fps. If it all works good i will also try some maps that aren't done yet

This helped things made it really smooth, but it's still much uglier than software (some colors aren't correct etc). I'm trying a reinstall now, but at least the game is running smoothly in D3D after installing this :):)

Does anyone know whether I should use the original cd per say, or does the downloaded version work fine?

ED- atm my populous looks like this http://img300.imageshack.us/my.php?image=capture1732009222031.jpg

In D3D mode that is. Same as it used to look but now it runs smooth, but I'd still like it to look the way it's supposed to (if there's ever a chance to get it on SDA it should look normal anyways). Anyone happen to know what's up?
