Now that I got an Nvidia card and can play 1.0, I did a test run of the first segment, got 9:14 with the load times included. I'm going to go for at least 8:50 before moving on to the next segment.

Here's how I plan on segmenting the run using save spots instead of autosaves:
Segment 1 - Beginning, storage, office, workshop, gate skip, tool shed, save at the mining machine
Segment 2 - Mining machine skip, shaft 13, tool storage, refinery, section C, save at Lake Utuqaq (Why are there no save spots before this?)
Segment 3 - Lake Utuqaq, chemical storage, incinerator, ending

EDIT:
Segment 1 in 8:29. I'm still going to give this some tries because near the end I took a wrong turn which cost me 5 seconds. Still, I'm not expecting to beat the current time because aside from that just about everything went very well. The gate skip only took 10 seconds too, which is reall good considering that even when practicing I very rarely get it in under 30 seconds and on the first jump.
Holy freaking marmot! You're still busy with this, cool Smiley

Only going to use 3 segments? I hope they'll be optimised Wink
I never quit this in the first place, I just couldn't do a whole lot with the ATI card I had. Now that I have a new computer and an Nvidia card I can actually start running. Or well, the new computer is still in pieces, I just whacked the new GPU in my old computer so I could start running this Tongue .

I'll do my best to optimize this, just don't expect it to look like your first segments, I'm simply not that precise. Just finished the first segment with a time I'm quite okay with, 8:19. The gate skip was only nearly as good as on my previous record but since I didn't take any wrong turns and my inventory management was much improved I got the 10 seconds off the time.

Segment 2 won't be as long as I first planned, instead of going all the way to Utuqaq I'm going to end it at Shaft 12 after Refinery. It doesn't change much but I still want to make S2 as short as possible.
Just installed 1.0 on my new computer and guess what? It doesn't work.

Not sure if I'm going to give up on this completely or just do a run on 1.1 without the inventory jump.
Well, what does the error look like ?
On the Steam forum someone said "Go into your graphics control panel (ATI or nVidia) and disable the OpenGL option 'Triple Buffering'".

Maybe this thread helps: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=796630

Well I'll be damned, it was a problem with OpenGL. Didn't even bother suspecting that since all of my installations of 1.1 worked flawlessly. Anyway, moving on to segment 2 then.

EDIT:
Here's the run... Well, most of it. Apparently I'm a moron and kept the old segment 1 and deleted to improved one. So I'll be redoing that... later.

I'll probably slowly move on to Black Plague. Already did a bit of testing and managed to clip from the first room to the hallway where you first see the monster. Unforunately it seems useless since if you try to exit to the room with the lasers you'll get stuck with a black screen.
I just now watched the run and yeah it's pretty good. Nice job Smiley
Thanks Smiley . Even though I found my better segment 1 which is about 10 seconds faster than the one on the video, I might still redo it and maybe split it in two so I can optimize the rock throwing in the beginning more.

And before submitting I'll see what I can do with BP, would be nice to submit them both at once.
You forgot about trick in this video:

2:33
I can't watch the video right now, but do you mean getting the explosive guide without opening the chest? Either I was doing it wrong or it's takes way too much precision for a run with this few segments. It's not that I forgot it, it's just that I couldn't pull it off. But as said, I might redo/split the first segment so if it turns out it's reliable enough, it could still be included.
Ooh, that one I had indeed forgotten, thanks for the heads up. Definitely makes redoing S1 worth it.
Found some new skips.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpaqgNuio2w

Nothing major, though the refinery skip is pretty nice. As would be the worm room skip, if it worked.
Wow, those are some pretty nice skips. I'll probably be picking this game back up in april when I have some more free time and I'll mess around with these and the other skips already in the run, but I may have to try some things before then. I'll let you know if I find anything interesting, really hoping to find a more consistent way of doing the drilling machine skip.
Using just the clip, you're not going to get all that consistent. I think my success ratio is a decent 10% now, compared to about 1% it used to be when I did the segmented run. Of course you could try to figure out the original mining machine skip, no one's yet to reproduce it but when first discovered I could pull it off consistently at first. As for these new skips, I think they're only for segmented. Refinery skip might be doable, of the 4 times I got through the first wall only once I landed on the conveyer belt, in the other tries I didn't get enough speed, got too much speed and got the right amount of speed but ended up on the wrong side of the door. The worm room skip is pretty precise and if it even works, it's 1.1 only which makes it useless.

Do you have any idea of the current RTA records of the Penumbra games? I kinda want to improve them but I've complete lost track of what they are and how they're timed.
yeah, i remember your mining machine skip using the power cord to somehow manage to push the machine. that would probably be more consistent if/when we fully understand the mechanics behind it. As for the other skips, i do see most of them being segmented, such as getting in the room to get the door code. Since I do runs on 1.1 anyways, the worm room skip isn't useless to me but the fact that its pretty precise is kind of a worry. the refinery skip would also be quite helpful for a 1.1 run since you can't do inventory jumping to bypass the ladder.

I'm not sure what the current RTA record is, but my PB so far is a 24:15. Even without using the newer skips, this time could easily be brought down a bit. For timing, I started my timer when the boat room loads after the beginning story and ended when the character gets knocked out at the end of the tunnel.
Actually I don't think the clips at the code room are useful at all, opening to door takes so little time. And as for refinery in 1.1, you can just grab a barrel and item fly to skip the ladder.

According to WSplit my time with 1.0 is 21:52. Difficult to compare these because as shown by Black Plague's in game timer, either the load times matter a lot or the game timer isn't accurate. I think I had a resetless run that was way faster than Asherza's resetless run when looking at real time but a lot slower in game time. I also had a run that had a reset in it and had the fastest game time I've seen and an okay reak time. And then there was the run where game time and real time matched to the second somehow. I just don't know anymore.
if that clip was useful in a segmented run, it would only save fractions of a second, but that is what segmented runs are all about :P.

I hadn't considered item hovering either, I didn't attempt to item hover until I did some black plague runs so I never incorporated it into overture. Thanks for point that out.

Generally speaking, load times matter a lot when dealing with in-game time and real time. If I remember correctly, I believe Asherza has quite long load times, which would explain the situation you described because the game doesn't seem to count the loading screens.

I also believe that the in-game time for black plague is accurate as long as you don't reset/reload. If you ever reload/reset a room, the in-game timer doesn't keep going, instead it also reloads/resets the time back to when you 1st attempted the room, so basically it doesn't take into account the resets. At least that's what I've experienced from it so far.

Hi, i've been planning and trying to do a single segment run of this one. Just for future segmented runs, i found a way to skip Reds monologue, this requires a little bit of backtracking but ends up saving whole lot of time.

After igniting that nitro Before mining through rubble, go back to room where you mixed it up, you find a gas can there, which you can use to push through to Reds room, and there is a chair which you can use to push back after cutting wires.
Here's a video of me doing it, http://www.twitch.tv/wukkopi/c/2599955
Nice find Smiley , guess I'll have to look into this game again at some point. I messed around in that area before, tried to (unsuccessfully) clip straight to Red's room from the lab in hopes of skipping the dialogue, making the explosive and even going to the worm room for chemicals. I still think it might be possible, I didn't spend all that much time trying as it was pretty difficult to estimate how the clip should be performed. A map viewer would help a lot in this case.
It is also possible to dig through that rubble, as we thought earlier this week. When punching exactly 21 times with pickaxe, that rubble will explode :D. This trick saves about two minutes since there's no need to visit chemical storage. http://www.twitch.tv/wukkopi/c/2650004
When I saw the highlight on Twitch I expected to see something pretty cool and when I saw that the trick is exactly what we talked about before I shouted "CALLED IT!" out loud, just brilliant. I love how simple that is, thanks goes to whoever discovered the trick in Amnesia.

I'm not really happy with it, I used a previous save since I didn't get the drill machine skip 1st try (wasted a ton of time) so I'll be improving it within the next day or so. Sum of best is 15:51! Cheesy

In case it's not obvious to tell, I'm running on 1.0.0
Nice work! I found out your twitch channel few days ago, and my penumbra running motivation started to tickle again after a long break. I compared your newest run against my PB (on version 1.1), and found out that we were on par until entering incinerator area. Now I got my hands on 1.0.0 too Wink
