Okay. Smiley

I think it can be done in less than 24min... Grin
I think I'll search  sor some tricks now Cheesy

Yes.I agree.I mean if you speed run all shortcuts which you know now.The time will be about 24min.
Speed is everything!
Yeah that's right.
Well, I've just gone through the game again. The only thing I found was that you can stand closer to the exploding potion near the end of the game. At the corner part there are these steel bars against the wall, at about that place you can just stand still and move forward when the potion explodes.

Other than that, I couldn't find anything Smiley

Great work Smiley Thnx

I've tested that, too. Cheesy But by me it didn't worked because I stand between the two steel bars...  Roll Eyes
Hmm, it seems standing on the TNT barrel to enter the next level quickly doesn't work on Hard :-/ Well, you indeed get in the next level but you die instantly there, I can't seem to find a way to prevent that.

I want to ask, what Gamma value would you guys recommend to run the game on? The game is very dark which is great for gameplay/tension, but not really for speedrunning/attempting Grin And yes this does somewhat indicate that I'm thinking of starting to work a bit on this run. Currently, while checking the game, I just have Gamma at 3.0 (Maximum) but I think that's a bit too bright. Maybe 2.0 is a good value, not too dark and not too bright.
Speed is everything!
Remeber: If you are recording with Fraps, the video will be darker than ingame. At least it so at my PC. Smiley

I just did a test with Fraps and the output video isn't darker for me Smiley It's the same as in the game. Gamma 2.0 is a good value in my opinion.

Hmm, next question, which difficulty shall I run?

On Easy you can implement more dangerous/damaging tricks, on Hard you can't (For example, the TNT barrel and falling down in the hole in the Power Room) but of course it would be more awesome in terms of difficulty Smiley
I don't like mid-difficulties by the way, so no Normal for me...

I'd say take easy, that you can run it as fast as you can.
Hard is always nice but IMO the difference between easy and hard is very small.  So my opinion is - easy.
But you've to decide. Smiley
I agree with you ZeRo, I was also already thinking about Easy simply because then you can implement all tricks Wink
The difference between Easy and Hard isn't too much no, just less trickage actually...

Alright, Easy it is. Do note that this won't be a primary project because that will still be Commandos Strike Force at this moment. I'll just work on Penumbra every now and then. I also won't post any segments because it would be basically the same stuff as you guys already did so I'll just keep my work a secret, it would be greater for this game to watch the whole run as one video anyway. Maybe I'll announce progress and stuff now and then in this thread Wink

Yeah that's right. I've also thought of rerunning the game but in the last time I hadn't much time for speedrunning.
And also my PC is spinning, he's often freezing randomly. So I can't really speedrun, 'cause if I'm running a game and the PC is freezing it's really frustating... Cry
Maybe I'll buy a new PC or at least some new components.... Smiley

So, take your time, and get an amazing result, like all your runs. Grin

gL with speedrun Smiley
Thanks.

I've found a pretty sweet general trick which is useful in some places, but I'm not going to tell you what it is so that I've got something special to show you in the end instead of the already known stuff. I hope that's ok Wink

That sounds nice, I'm very curious about it and I'm dying to know what it is. Grin

Heh yeah, maybe I shouldn't have mentioned it already but then I thought that it would be something nice for you guys to look forward to Smiley

A little progress update. Maybe you already knew about it but I write in my signature where I am every time. Right now it's "Underground entrance", which isn't very far yet (It's in the beginning just after the outside snowy part). 2 segments done now because I'm making use of the autosaves quite a lot. Basically I use all of them Wink

Yeah I've already noticed it. But, thanks for that progress update! Grin

So, I've finished segment 4. There was like a month inbetween segment 3 and 4 because I was just working on other stuff.

Well, I'm now just after the room where you needed to pick up the explosives manual (I found another little trick there) with a time of about 01:31 which is about 00:25 faster than 2x_Alpha's run already Smiley (I say "about" everytime because it's a little difficult to time the parts precisely because of the autosave flashes. The actual autosave happens in a ~4 frame period somewhere in the middle of the flash, but that's not always very easy to identify so my timings will not be entirely accurate. I hope Mike won't get a hard time timing the run when it's finished... ;)).

EDIT: Another little progress report. I've now arrived at segment 7 (Just picked up and fueled the Lighter and I'm outside the building again heading for the gate to unlock with the key), and I'm about 57 seconds faster than 2x_Alpha Smiley Some nice trickery thingies are and will be included in this run. I think the final time is going to be around 20 minutes...
Speed is everything!
20 minutes is a nice time! Good luck with it...
I've read that Penumbra: Black Plague is out now,
I'll try to get it as fast as I can and play it, maybe speedrun it Grin
I'm sure the game is also awesome like Penumbra Overture...

Yeah probably, or at least I hope so. Can't wait to play it too Wink
There's one thing that's confusing me a bit. Penumbra: Overture is Episode 1, the Penumbra series is declared a trilogie (= 3 parts), Penumbra: Black Plague is the final part, so where's part 2? Somewhere in here should fit the Penumbra Tech Demo I think, but it's not making much sense...
I mean, having the "Tech Demo -> Penumbra: Overture - Episode 1 -> Penumbra: Black Plague" is a kind of strange trilogie wording. Looks a bit messy because of the Episode 1 in the middle Wink

Anyway, I'm finished with the first game part (I'm in the tunnels just after the exploding barrel) with a time of 4:05 which is surprisingly 1 minute and 43 seconds faster than 2x_Alpha. I didn't expect such a huge improvement already, I expected something like 30 seconds or so at most Smiley
Speed is everything!
I don't really understand it, too. But I've got the game now and it's awesome^^.
I'm now a bit over the half, I think.
It could be good for speedrunning, I think, but first I'll play it normally and slow.
In some moments it makes me really afraid, and that's really awesome! Grin
Anyway, good progress so far... good luck! Wink
piece of cake!
Penumbra overture, and black plague, are the best survival horror game I've ever played! Especiallfy from these awesome students who have made it, it would have had much more popularity I think!

Anyway, keep up the good work on the run void (I mean TheVoid, not to make the run void xD )
Speed is everything!
I've completed the game now two times.
My first time was nearly 7h Grin and my second was 1:03:23 :D.
I've already found some tricks like skipping the dream sequences or some other levels,
entering the machine room without a gas mask
or general shorcuts using the jumping/flying-trick for example etc...
I'll play it now and practice and search for new tricks now, and maybe even run it. Smiley
Hehe, good luck running it ZeRo Grin

I still need to play it...

No further progress for Penumbra: Overture yet.

I've completed it now in 47mins, and there's still place to improve. So I think I could complet the game in 40mins... I could also imagine doing a SS, but that will take more time. Grin

EDIT: I've found that video on youtube (and this shows the same trick) with a trick that will propably help you a bit. Cheesy
