So Penumbra: Necrologue isn't actually it's own game, per say...  It's actually a mod for Amnesia: TDD (not a custom story - check out the website if you want more info).  However, it is extremely well-done and has several hours of gameplay casually.  Since it uses the Amnesia engine, it looks/feels really good, is mostly stable, and it can be broken easily for a great speedrunning adventure.

I guess my question is whether or not this site would allow it.  I know SDA usually doesn't accept the use of mods in runs, but since this is essentially an entire game in itself, I was hoping that this could be an exception.  I learned about it from the official Amnesia:AMfP facebook page, if that's worth anything =P  There was a great glitchless (segmented, I assume) run of the game at around 1:40:xx on YouTube, but the user (amnesiaPUZZLES) has since removed it for unstated reasons.  We have already found a bunch of great skips and we've made one attempt at a run (1:28:36) which can be found on our Twitch channel.  Let me know what you guys think!
Thread title:
I found a couple more skips today after looking at the Amnesia: TDD run.  The first shaved off about three minutes while the second saved around 10-15 minutes (some of which is randomly generated!).  I unfortunately wasn't streaming at the time, but I was recording via OBS, so I might upload a couple highlights from it on our YouTube page.  We're expecting the full run to be under an hour or so now.  We're going to try for another good run this weekend.
Hey ZOM,

this mod sure looks interesting. Although I doubt it would be accepted here, I am certainly interested in watching runs of it, so keep going.
I'm not sure if this would change anything or not, but the game is now on Steam Greenlight!  If you guys want to see more of this game, you should vote for it!  Maybe if it gets approved, it would count as a game with an official release and we could put a speedrun of it on here...
Get over here!
A full release would change a lot yes. And by a lot I mean don't be too sure that they'll use the same engine or ignore all the glitches found. Expect to be screwed over by the devs that way it's not as frustrating.
We were able to get the run under an hour!  You can check out our current run(s) on our Twitch channel.  We're pretty happy with this so far =)  There's a couple places where we messed up and the game crashed at one point (which will hopefully be fixed when the game gets a full release Wink ), but we are pretty happy with this route so far.  We have a couple more optimizations planned and we'll probably do another run in a week or two.  I know they may change or patch some of the skips if the game gets greenlit, but the main point of running it now is to build hype for the game so it CAN get the attention it needs to move forward.  If you guys have any suggestions, let us know! thumbsup

The game got greenlit!!!  I'm excited to see what (if anything) they change so we can update the route.  We found a few more skips in the past couple of weeks and beat our previous run by 9 minutes (down to 50:47).  It's on our Twitch channel if you want to check it out.

We've finally gotten a run that we're happy with and would like to submit.  We found a HUUUUUUGE skip halfway through the game that loads the last area, and we managed to get the run down to an incredible 24:30!!!  We've had a few troubles figuring out the submission process though, so if anyone could offer us some advice, that would be very helpful.  We have the run as straight gamerip, but we weren't sure where to submit it (the submission form only seemed to ask for text commentary).  The commentated version of the run can be found on our Twitch channel.  Thanks for all your guys's support!
If you fill out the submission form you will get a response from the staff asking for you to upload the run.

Btw: congrats ! 24:30 seems more like an adequate time for a Penumbra run ^^
Get over here!
So I finally got around to play through this (even though I really didn't since the temptation was too much and I glitched it) and now I'm wondering why you don't skip the door codes? Is it hard scripted that you need them or something?
Yes, that's why.  The codes are always the same, but we tried entering the codes into the keypad before we collected the note and it wouldn't let us continue.  We are assuming that it's because you need some of the other codes later on, and you wouldn't be able to go back to get them, so you'd be stuck if you didn't have them already.  Unfortunately, that door is the only way to access the next area as far as we can tell so you can't skip getting the codes.
Another full conversion mod was released by the same developers (Countercurrent Games) called Penumbra: Twilight of the Archaic.  It's made in a very similar style to Penumbra: Necrologue, so we took a crack at routing it.  We've broken pretty much every level in the game except for the last one which, if we could find a way to get through the final fence, would save us up to seven minutes!

We'll probably do a run of it sometime this week and post it on our Twitch channel.  The glitchless run is somewhere around 50 minutes, so we're expecting the any% run to be about 20 minutes.
We were pretty accurate in our estimates of Twilight of the Archaic.  We found a way to glitch through the fence into the end cutscene and therefore shortened the second half of the game to around  four minutes.  This brought the run we did this weekend to 20:51!  You can see the full run on our Twitch channel.  The run wasn't perfect, but we practiced quite a bit before we did it, so the time is mostly optimal.  I don't think any other major time savers can be found, so we'll probably leave it at that unless we are requested to exhibition the run for a marathon or something.
