Just to make sure, do you know about the second action command on Spin Jump? Many videos that I've seen online, including the current speedrun, do not use the second action command.

1 action command: 2+3 damage with Super Boots, 3+5 with Ultra Boots
2 action commands: 2+4 damage with Super Boots, 3+6 with Ultra Boots
interesting, i will look into that, however my memory doesn't serve too well since i haven't played the game in a long time and i currently do not have it.

And i will check the quality sometime soon, because buying a DVD recorder JUST for this would be kind of a pain.
I can not find discs, but i did find tapes. I would rather not go through the hassle of going out to buy more things when i can record with what i have. I will do a quality test run sometime soon. And i've found someone to help me with this too. He recently got the game because he was playing it all summer at my other friend's house that is borrowing my game. So i've got alot of stuff cleared out of the way i suppose. All the easy stuff though.
If you do in fact use VHS, I believe you have to playback the VHS and record it onto DVD to be able to submit it, so either way you need a DVD recorder unless one of the admins makes an exception. From my experience, DVD-RW only records about 1 hour 20 mins of video, so I'm sure you could take advantage of pausing + switching disks to use as a bathroom/food/etc break. That is, unless there's some crazy mass produced DVD disk that can take in 8+ hours, in which case you can ignore most of what I said :/
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.

He could also find someone else with a DVD recorder to send it to.

A DVD-RW can fit two hours at SP, which is the lowest quality acceptable for most games at SDA. But depending on the recorder, you can pack in 8 or even 10 hours at very low quality.
and i already suggested bathroom breaks and everything in between tapes but he didn't like it
because of the rule that states:

"If the pausing is beneficial for your speedrun (e.g., speeding up boss fights in Mega Man), it is recommended to do so. However, don't try to manipulate the timer via pausing. We will switch to manual timing in that case, and you would only be hurting your time. Extraneous pausing will not be factored out of your time, and your run will probably be rejected for poor play quality. Thus, before you begin running, it is probably a good idea to go to the bathroom, turn off your cell phone, and eliminate any other possible distractions."

I see no reason to go to the bathroom since i can go 8 hours, and this answer to a FAQ forbids it anyway.

As far as other people, i could send it to someone with a DVD recorder or playing it back, i didn't even think of that. I will figure something out. And does anyone know if there is a specific reason that VHS isn't accepted anymore? I mean, DVD's aren't terribly new and VHS isn't that bad on quality, at least from my experience.
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
It's kinda a quality thing, but really Nate moved and didn't want to bring all his VHS capture stuff and bother with that anymore.
I swear I watched a speedrun on here where the runner thanked Nate for editing out the pauses...but maybe I misunderstood the purpose of the pauses?

He does edit out the pauses for things like tape/disc changes, but that doesn't mean you ought to pause a dozen times just because you're nervous or something.

You could go do whatever you want during disc change pauses, like getting a snack or going to the bathroom, because how would we know anyway? Although many people would rather just man up (or even woman up) and not do that.
hmm, i WOULD use iRecord since the quality is fantastic, but it leaves annoying watermarks, and even though it can record up to 3 hours, it records in MP4, which needs to be converted most of the time, and the file is too big to do so. I've found i've been able to convert 150 MB at 18 (more or less) minutes. that would make alot of files for an almost 8 hour speed run. I'll look for a DVD recorder and see if i can work with that. My brother might have one, and i'd just need to move his XBOX out of there, which i'm sure he wouldn't mind.

As far as the person who has my game, they're nearly impossible to contact so i'm going to try and find him all day and get it back from him soon. Like within the next few days.
God is the ultimate prankster. You can't top him.

I am fairly sure that the Pause screen has a timer on it, and with it being more than likely used while switching discs, we will know how much time he spent on a potty break with the random time-skip. I do not recall if there are any other areas optimal for switching discs besides that, since it's been a while since I've played the game.

Besides, going on a potty break whether or not we know, he will know and the time counter won't match the completion time, which I'm sure everyone would not like.
i get my game back friday. i think. i will practice in segments for obvious reasons, so ill keep you guys updated on things.
Due to various other things happening to me, i am forced to POSTPONE this speed run. not drop, just put off for a bit.

sorry to people who were looking forward to this, etc, etc.
I know this is very late to post this but where are you, Shura, speedrun wise? and if you are still waiting i will probaly take over and do my own ss so the best of luck to you and if you are still working on it let the best man win.
Good bump here, but Almolicious (known as Almo on irc) got a 6:43 in-game time today Single Segment (6:43:05 RTA), taking (afaik) WR for this game. The previous WR was 6:44:51 by 紺空さん on Japanese version.

As an added note, Almo played on the English version. He also indicated that there's much more improvement that can still take place.

I figured this'd be a good place to inform here.
Shura and Almo are one in the same. Thanks for letting people know doicm Smiley

To think, 3 years ago this post started and I've wanted to do it, and just recently I've started and exceeded any expectations I had.

There will be a full run on youtube in the near future, but my videos have de-interlacing problems, so i doubt it will be uploaded here on SDA. I've had quality test issues before with the SDA team lol
Why don't you work with SDA to get them fixed? Presumably your raw footage is interlaced, so if you used anri, the resulting videos shouldn't have any problems.

Here's the run, just finished uploading:

I'll probably give it to someone to encode or de-interlace or whatever since anri confuses me haha
Just thought I'd bump this because I got a new time for single segment. 6:34:42 was from file select to "The End" after the credits.

a replay can be seen here: http://www.twitch.tv/almolicious/b/334192896

Unfortunately I have no recording of it, so my next run I will make sure to record. I'll be satisfied with a run and will get it uploaded here on SDA when I can get sub 6:30, which is definitely possible. I would also love for someone else to take on SS for this game.

Just showing my support. There's tons of RTA runs of paper mario 64, but not thousand year door. It doesn't get enough love T.T (even though I do prefer 64) Good luck with the single-segment run! Really looking forward to the sub-6:30!
There aren't many people that have the opportunity to go for a single segment run that's 6 and a half hours long. It's an awesome game and I'm sure lots of people want to see more runs but good luck finding more people that can do this haha. Just posting to show my support as well Smiley

Just reached my goal of sub 6:30 with a 6:29:56.

Unfortunately, I did not expect to do this so soon so yet again I lack a high quality video.

Here is the twitch archive:

Part 1: http://www.twitch.tv/almolicious/b/334912311 (Starts at 11:04)
Part 2: http://www.twitch.tv/almolicious/b/334922887

I had a stream crash in the middle, so unfortunately about a minute and a half is missing from the middle of the run.

I promise if I do runs in the future I will record all of them so I can get it up here on SDA :P. Although, I'm probably done playing this for a while because it's going to be really tough to beat this time for where I'm at currently skill-wise and the current strats.

I don't speedrun it but I'll give it a watch sometime over next week, and give comments. Be sure to get a recording test Smiley
I just got a 6:24:46 for single segment. Will have a video up soon on YouTube probably. Unfortunately the quality is not great (30fps, interlaced), so I can't upload it to SDA. I'm getting some component cables for progressive scan and 60fps recordings within the next week, so If I break this again, I'll be sure to upload it to SDA.

For anyone that might be interested, just letting you know. Smiley
