Ok so I'm new here, but I've been speedrunning for years, specifically, a segmented run of TTYD, falling 6 minutes short of James Bunkley's time and have wanted to do a single-segment of this for quite some time now. I have a few reasons for this.
1. Luck factors and dangerous risks can be minimized through segments, however, especially in such a long game, doing a single segment might take much more time. When i did my run where i got 7:31 as a finalized time (Bunkley's is clocked in at 7:11 but his game timer was 7:25) i did not re-do segments, i did it all in one run through, and some segments in one sitting. So technically, even though i saved, it was one segment, but according to SDA's rules and logic, it's multiple segments. Therefore, the time won't even be much lower if i can do this again through some practice, and probably shooting below 8 hours would be awesome.
2. I can withstand 8 hours of gaming in one sitting. Although it's incredibly unhealthy, i have gone several hours without eating while playing games, as it seems to take my mind off of it, and sleep is not a factor since i'm awake for more than 8 hours everyday. As far as the bathroom goes, i refuse to go at school, and recently, work, because it's just weird to me. School is 7 hours, i worked for 8 hours yesterday. I see no reason this should get in the way. Food & drink seems like the biggest problem, but with a game with so much dialouge, some of it goes on for several minutes, so i can just have something next to me and hit A and B with one hand. This doesn't seem like a great idea though, so probably eating before and then being very hungry afterwards would be the best solution.
3. There is no SS of this run. Probably because it's insane, and for some, nearly impossible.
The only real problems i have are summer is closing in, I'm out of practice, and i don't know when i'll have an entire day to myself free. Also, the only recording devices i have are iRecord, which leaves a 5 second watermark everytime you start and stop videos, and is just downright annoying, and a macbook that can record offscreen, which i clearly am not doing. Also, i could find some discs for the DVD player, or even more drastically, move the VCR. I've read that switching tapes/discs is allowed, and since this game has a timer, i don't see alot of problems with that.
I realize this game is pretty old, and hasn't been run in a while, but i hope it doesn't stop people from discussing it. I already realize there are other topics about TTYD, but this one is specifically for a SS of it. So i'm going to begin practicing this run again very soon in the little free time i have, piece by piece, and hopefully come out with something utterly amazing. I'm all for setting records, and this is definitely one I would like to shoot for.
