But consider the window glitches. There is nothing assisting you from passing through, it just kind of happens. If something like that can occur elsewhere, it might be worth investigating.

Do you mean the one in the male ward at the sprinkler valve and the other one in the female ward near the laundry? Those are just missing collision boxes in the upper area of the right window, which is not the case for doors.

Double post for some reason.

I see. Well, either way it might be worth investigating. Also, me an WW are gonna do some grinding today on the god glitch to see what we come up with in terms of consistency and speed.
Has anyone messed with the PS4 version yet? Any differences?
Takahashi Meijin
i tried it last night on ps4

what a dumb game, and a horrible survival horror. some of the worst writing i've ever seen, period. They used everything in the book lol

why are there checkpoints everywhere? that's not survival horror

and WHY is there frame tearing? my first experience with frame tearing on ps4! I would assume other then the lower possible resolution, the lack of V-sync is the biggest difference.
I was more talking from a speedrun stand point...
oh sorry, I have no idea yet.

If you want, I could look into some of the skips and try to perform them.
I didn't really see this game as survival horror when I played it. When I hear that term, I think of old Resident Evil games and Silent Hill. Outlast is more about atmosphere and panic horror. Not having checkpoints and having to do the same part over and over again would probably ruin the immersion they were going for.

As for the writing, that's subjective, but it doesn't necessarily have to be bad just because it's full of clichés.
After some long practice and getting used to the setup, and the ability to do it suddenly coming to me, lol, I can say with confidence that the god glitch is consistent enough to warrant including in runs. It seems its dependent on the first actions you take as soon as you clip through the wall of the bookshelves. Press D and adjust to early, you'll get stuck on the vent. Too late, and you'll land back out in the hallway, or worse, hit the first floor and die. So there is some finesse required, but it's not as difficult as I once thought.

Sooo...yay? lol

Also for funsies, me and Wrongwarped were messing around in the GG room and it turns out you can do a running jump from the opposite side of the room and land in the farside of the hallway opposite of the GG. No save point though :(.

Can someone correct me if I'm wrong? I've come to the conclusion when watching PC speedruns that the PS4 version cannot do the out of bounds glitches. Is this because the game loads each area compared to everything being rendered/rendering quickly on PC? I'm currently doing this on PS4 and if this would be possible on that version it would be amazing.
Hey guys! Glad to see more people running this game.  After doing more runs and lots of glitch practicing I managed to get a new WR. 38:33
Run went extremely smooth but made some minor mistakes.  I failed the 1st prison ledge trick but I did manage to get both outside(Courtyard) ledge tricks.
New glitch, not sure it can be useful, but might be worth looking into. http://www.twitch.tv/saintconnor/c/3747102
I start. You blink. I finish.
Hey Guys. I'm pretty new to running this game and currently have a PB of about 50:05 or whatever the hell. I am using some outdated strats (read: no God fall), and the strats I DO use weren't really documented in a proper step by step form. Specifically, the Explosion skip and Doctor skip. If someone could explain how to properly do the vent crawls I would be very grateful! I would much enjoy one day constantly resetting because I missed a vent on the first try.

Thank you thank you!
Are there any big differences between the PS4 and the PC versions when it comes to the glitches in the speedrun and such?  I'm creating a wiki entry for this game to document the various WRs but I want to understand if there are differences between both ports, other than rendering/loading differences.

Also, is anyone attempting a 100%?  I would assume that would be getting all 62 collectibles (31 notes and 31 documents).

There are big differences, namely not being able to do vent/doctor skips or god glitch. And no one that I know of right now is attempting 100%
I was just watching a ton of Outlast speedrun videos and I noticed that the start times for the timer is inconsistent between players.  I have seen:

1- Start timer as soon as hitting Continue to start the game
2- Start timer as soon as you are given the mission and have full control of the character

In all honesty, I prefer #2 better than #1, but really the most important thing is consistency.  #1 would suck for PS4 players because there is a lot of loading time that the PC doesn't have in the beginning.

Another possible starting point could be when you hit Back right after you grab the Whistleblower document from the car.  This is technically the first real time where user interaction is required.

Anyways, I the important thing here is that everybody does it the same, so I think this needs to be defined sooner rather than later.  My vote is for #2, or right after grabbing the Whistleblower doc.  Smiley

Usually, the first input counts, so it would be #1. However, most people start the timer when the screen goes dark and the driving sequence starts, in order to skip the loading time which depends on computer speed.

It's a bit sketchy, but this is the way I do it:
Crawl backwards toward the vent hole, and before you approach it, move the mouse so that you are crawling at a ~45 degree angle towards the hole. Once you're about to fall down the hole, the game will "zip" you towards the hole, and just when that happens, move the mouse back so that you're crawling straight. This should cause you to zip over the hole instead of into it.

And this is why most of us do #2. PS4 can do whatever they want because it's the same for them no matter what.
Yup, I agree that #2 should be the start of the timer, which would make LuigEzz's WR time much faster...  Smiley
I speed run this on PS4. It seems we all start our time right where we gain control outside of the car. Maybe makes sense with all the loading and stuff that's not present in the PC version. Here's my video of getting 56:10 on PS4, but I just beat that on Friday with a new glitch. My fastest is now 54:23 on PS4 but will have to record it with my Elgato soon.
My friend also just did the glitch that brings you straight to the final basement but isn't very consistent, so I'll be practicing that.

Does it work for PS4? If so that is good news!

So a few of us were rolling around an idea and I wanted to bring it to the rest of your guys to see what you think.

How would you guys feel about collectively (PC and PS4) starting the run from the very first check point when you gain full control of your character outside of the car? I know some of the PS4 peeps do it, but as a whole, I think it would be far better if we all did. It cuts out the 1:38-1:40 car ride, cuts down on some of the load requirements, less stupidity with closing the folder, and more likely to be accepted into larger marathons to gain more exposure (ex: my submission for SGDQ got cut for the beginning of the game being too stale, among other things). It would also add consistency to races as well as everyone could load the check point, pause the game, .ready, unpause and go at the same time instead of being limited by load times which could damage your race times.

If anyone has any arguments against this idea, feel free to share and discuss. I would prefer we got the community's input before we start trying to push something ahead. Besides, I know I'm tired of sitting in that damn car every time I reset... Tongue
I say go for it Connor. I beat my time again last week on PS4. Now my personal best is is 53:44 and with the priest skip that sends me to the end of the game, I can now get in the 40's for PS4.
