No way, the save warp has to be faster...by the time you save, you haven't even equipped the slingshot.  Timing starts again for the segment when you gain control of Link at the entrance...go back to the ladder (same height as ladder in slingshot room), and compare distances now...

Not to mention, the whole aiming the slingshot part + getting to ladder in the slingshot room is skipped.

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I'll test it now.

EDIT: Savewarping is like, 5 seconds faster. You also gain the time from being able to have shorter segments; savewarping it is.

Speed is the key.
So, I wont have to feel bad about save-warping there after all...

Thanks for clearing that up, Manocheese. Wink

I will try running segment 4 for a few hours now...

Edit: After 4 hours of running I've got a segment 4 that is above average, Please tell me what you think of it.

Segment 4

There are some mistakes that I can point out just like this:

-3-4 seconds lost in room after water room, this was pure clumsiness.

-1 second lost for swinging my sword twice to put out the burning Deku Stick in the room with the crawlspace.

-0,5-1 second lost when struggling to climb the block in second web room.

-2-3-1 Deku Scrub room wasn't optimal.

I still think I'll stick with it, though.

Edit: I can't proceed now until Radix gives me the heads up about the Domain --> Lake as an adult trick. If I'm allowed to use it, I might be able to skip going into the lab as a child. Instead I could get rupees from:

-40 rupees from drawbridge

-XX rupees from guard house at market

-7 rupees from Market

-12 rupees from stream at HC

-20 rupees from shooting the window after meeting Zelda.

The total must be 60 rupees or more.

Uh, I don't understand this time format. Does that mean you lost 2 seconds and 31 hundredths?

Umm... I meant the room with Deku Scrubs that you have to shoot in the order: 2-3-1. Wink

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Oh. <_< Never mind.

EDIT: Nice run.

-I'm glad you used the jumpslash trick on that Gold Skulltula.

-If you jump farther forward on the web, you might be able to land on the switch.

-Good eye switch room

-If you do everything up to the water room a little faster, you might be able to use the water platform text skip

-TSA said something about the Gohma battle not being able to start until a certain time after the door slams shut. You might be able to jumpslash with a Deku Stick, then look up and not lose time. I'll go test it now.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I always try to do it, though.

I know, but it's very hard because you have to get the perfect angle. I've done it a few times, but screwed up later. We might be talking about a quarter of a second here. Tongue

-Good eye switch room

Yeah, even though it doesn't really matter. I still had plenty of time left in the water room.

Quote:

Negative. Everything up to the water room was done almost perfect, and I had to wait for the platform after activating the text. Even if I got there faster, I wouldn't do the water skip. Too hard and risky.

I'm pretty sure you can start the battle immidiately by looking up. It always takes a while for Gohma to stop to look at you and the cutscene to start.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I just tested it and you're right; it always takes the same amount of time for Gohma to drop down once you go into first person and look at the eye. However, you could pull out a Deku Stick while backwalking from the door.

Yeah, maybe... still not someting I'll redo the whole segment for, though.

Edit: I would like to know if you think that segment 4 is fine or if I should try to improve it. I mean, there's only one "real" mistake in the whole segment.

I want to get on with the run. Tongue

Will you post the 100% video on Speeddemosarchive?? So we can download ALL parts with bittorrent?

I will submit the run when it's finished, yes. Radix will decide whether to put up a torrent or not.

I'm gonna give segment 5 a few tries tonight...

Segment 4 was okay...I didn't really see any big mistakes.  I have to do my Segment 3/4 soon...fricking taking forever to get some damn free time here.

I know that I can improve segments 3 and 4, but it would take a while, and I'd rather move on with the run than keep trying to improve the same segments over and over...

Looking forward to your segments, hopefully, you'll be able to optimize more than me.
The run is good up to now. I saw some small mistakes here and there on segment 4 but overall it was good enough. I suggest to move on, not really a good thing to try to optimise the segments too much when you're doing a 7 hours run Tongue
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
well, the run has to have certain level of optimization to prevent someone from copying the route and beating the run in like 2 months :p

Trust me, the level of optimization is pretty high, and nobody will beat this in 2 months.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
You should probably just move on. You can always fix it later if you decide to.
No the Quail is not riding the Q
You have a good strategy and I think it was very well done overall.
Execution can be a little faster as you said..but its not a big deal.

I'm sure The1AndOnly can do it.  Tongue

Copying the route to beat a time by a small margin will actually not get the run up on this site sometimes.  I mean, in Super Mario Bros - yes, the optimal route is known, so everyone has to use it and try to improve by a second or so.

In OoT, we have a lot of potential room to innovate.  If somebody copies one of our runs, and beats us by say...a minute, but it had absolutely nothing new - especially when NEW stuff could be done, I am pretty sure Radix would toss it in the trash and say "do better, use the new tricks".

Yeah. We will make it our personal goal tease you with names like "super ing" and beat your speedrun moments later.
You have been warned. "[smilie barage deleted]"

HEY LUSR, I CAN LIEK BEET UR RUN BUT FRST HOW DO U RN??? HOW DO U GET TEH SORD??? HOW DO U USE TEH SORD??? HOW DO U PRS A??? TEL ME OR I WIL SPM U!!!!

Anyway, what if you ended segment 3 by jumpslashing the web? I don't know if it would be faster or slower, but it could possibly be benificial.

EDIT: Shit, I should have posted this in TSA's topic, I meant it might help in his run since you don't need that skultula (SP for sure) in his run.

I think the whole purpose was to skip shooting the ladder and the room after it which supposively saves a little time.

Hmm, but would this balance out the time necessary to climb back up as opposed to already being up there (after getting the slingshot)?

You get to take advantage of the fact you can roll on top of the crumbling rock the first time.

At the beginning of the Deku Tree would it save time to backflip to perform a text skip at the vines instead of using the ladder?

What do you mean? Backflip and start climbing?
