I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I think what I want to do is to play DOOM on my win98 computer, then get a splitter to send the video to my other computer, which is a Mac., for streaming. I want to know what I'm looking for in a capture card. I just need this for streaming, since any submission, will go to compet-n in the form of a .lmp file. The signal will be a VGA signal.
Thread title:
If you're running the original DOOM you will need a capture card that can record 320x200 RGBHV. The PEXHDCAP should do that, but I've never tested it. If you're running DOOM 95 you will have a much more common 640x480 mode which should work on any card that can record VGA.

Would it work with OS X? I will definitely use the original executable, as DOOM95 has problems.

HELLO!
Sorry for doing this in a tech thread but your runs on compet-n have given me many hours of entertainment over the years. Smiley

As for the actual question I don't know any hardware with Mac drivers that does VGA input.

Probably need tou se a video processor that takes VGA in and does HDMI out then use something that does HDMI, like the Blackmagic Intensity.

Hi presjpolk, thanks for your response. I enjoy watching some of your runs too. So, it looks like I need a via splitter, then I need a vga-hdmi converter, and then a capture card that is OS X compatible. Are there any issues with the 320x200 resolution? How do I choose a suitable capture card?

HELLO!
As far as I know, anything that does VGA-HDMI is likely to upscale it from 320x200, so that you should be fine.

Because the Blackmagic line, basically the dominant capture option on Mac OS, does not do 320x200.

Hello, I'm back, and would like some more advice. I went to a store that basically said that using a converter and then a capture card is unlikely to work. Since I had another computer with a DVI card, he suggested that use that because there are more options with DVI than VGA. We couldn't find a suitable capture card for my purposes, so I am thinking of getting a new PC so that I will be able to use an internal capture card, and also have more options for software. It should be cheaper than getting the one that we found that was about 700$.

HELLO!
If you have USB3 then there is an external capture option that does everything.

So if you're going DVI you don't need a whole new computer. Well as long as you can use Boot Camp.  I guess it also depends on whether it's DVI-D or not, heh.
From what I remember in regards to 320x200, the refresh rate is 70Hz.  I own a PEXHDCAP, and it cannot capture beyond 60fps.  I get a blank screen from my Compaq 4220T when I initially boot up the laptop.  So, there is apparently a limit on what it and the SC512N are capable of capturing.
Yes, the 200 and 400 scanline modes typically run at ~70 FPS
