I have started a speedrun on Need For Speed Carbon. Yes, it isn't really a good game, yes, it isn't really a game for speedrunning, but the Career mode give to us the choice of the races, and we can made a route-planning.
In the game, we can beat the game with only 75 % races complete. So there are 25 % optional, and the choices of races are crucial. Shortest are the races, shortest is the run.

I've already made the first quarter of the run, in 40 minutes. I estimate the run will have a time under 3 hours, ~2:40/2:50 to be more precise.

The texts are in english but in the in-game videos, the voices are french (because I have the french version of the game).
Thread title:
Speedrun of any racing game is absolut non-sense, because there are no shortcuts, no tricks, just NOTHING which might shave some time. SDA is not a site about lap records, highest score and so on. Such "speedrun" would be boring to watch, especially game like NFS:Carbon, not to mention you can record only 15-20fps...

I'm not saying you can't do that, I'm just saying that almost every racing game and turn-based strategies are not speedrunnable and I actually doubt you can beat WR's (unless you hold them) and if you can't, this run becomes pointless.

Yes, you're right, but NFSC isn't a racing game like F-Zero, there isn't a career mode. In many games in the speedruns, there are no shortcuts. So it is route-planning. And in NFSC, there is route-planning : we must choose the good races to made a better time. I've just made already the 1/4 of the game in ~40 minutes (so ~2:40 to complete the game), and recorded it (25 FPS, more than expected). So a speedrun on this racing game has a sense. A little sense, yes, but there is. And in a speedrun like NFSC, there is ~60 races in we must finish 1st to beat the game, and we can't be perfect at each race.
And it is a good challenge.

You said it's boring to watch, but every speedrun more than 1 hour is boring for me to watch, I largely prefer to play the game that to look during several hours somebody who makes the game very quickly. I didn't saying it is ininteresting, it's cool to see shortcuts and skills, but 1 hour is VEEEEERY long. And I can't imagine me to watch my computer more than 7 hours to look the entire GTA: SA speedrun...

I respect your opinion, but I think NFSC is speedrunnable. And I already begun it ^^
There is no victory without combat
Ewil is right with his argument, but you should remind that a Speedrun for the Fun Racer Mario Kart 64 exists, also with Laptimes.
I played Carbon and in my opinion its not a good Racing Game, but I think it should be speedrunable to be fair.
I wear glasses.
If you feel like doing a speedrun for this game, then do it. A lot of people watch runs that are only discussed here, but don't get published (take the Lucasarts adventure series for examle).

I'd watch your run. And if it's entertaining and actually goes beyond a competition of best lap and race times because of route planning, it's also a legitimate speedrun.
18 to the diablo2 holy grail
also it would be interesting which of the 3 starter classes produces the best results and there is car selection as well/the crew is crap but choice of crew will later change the times.

darius is a twat, i wish i could have pushed him and all the other competitors over the canyon wall.

shortcuts are different but you can set up the cars differently.  i would love to see the "best car with the best setup fly into a corner and get through it well.  remember to try and pass bosses on the canyon duels for a super quick finish.  Also the idea of drifting at high speed not losing anything, get the score needed THEN fly through the rest of the race is good.

the pursuit rubbish in carbon was a joke though, just haxxed from most wanted and they took the best bits out.

i do remember they changed the rules though so if you punctured your tires you don't just stop, i had a challenge where I drove for 5-10 mins on 4 flat tyres before completing the objective then losing the cops.

and if you already have a quarter of it done you should keep going
Could you pls upload any race ?
I think it would (Or could) be a nice watch. I've played the game a little from a friend and there are shortcuts in the races, hehe Wink Make a good plan about the performance parts (Which to get first, which is better for another race etc...).

Well anyway, good luck with it Smiley
Hello. I'm actually interested in speedrunning this (and NFS High Stakes). I loved both games and would like to help/learn routes as well. If you don't mind, I would love to help with both games. Mind you, my games are both PC though. I don't know about any speed differences between console and PC, but I've had High Stakes since I've played it on a friend's PC (like NHL 98 Tongue ), so natually I ended up with Carbon on PC as well.

If this is any sort of a problem, let me know. Either way, like I said, I'd love to help (these NFS games get too much of a bad rap and I think they are awesome games).
Nice 7 year necro post. Some of these guys might be dead for all I know Wink
Crap-baskets...
Is there still an active community for NFSC? If so what version differences are there, if any. My cousin and I would be very interested in this run since we used to play it all night.
Sorry for reviving a year old thread, but there is active community on speedrun.com

And yes, I have the current WR despite saying 8 years ago it's nonsense to speedrun racing games. I've changed my mind Wink
