Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Okay, so I'll scratch the 100% run. =\

Anyway, I performed another single segment. Actually went very smooth. Until I reacehd my usual levels I suck total ass at, 5-3, and 6-4. Dying over 5 times total on those two. T_T!

I overall had sub 11 minutes of mistakes. And went better than the last run I posted on page 1. ^.^

2h 30m 27s

8 minutes better than the last run, 10 minutes of mistakes. So a 2:10 - 2:20 is something I would like.

I'll be receiving my cousin's Game Boy player by July 10th definately. Smiley So the run'll get captured soon. Tommorrow I'll continue searching for any other 100% level runs I can beat.
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Woot! I nailed the level 1-2 100% single level  time by 7 seconds. Grin If anyone cares to see it, hit me via AIM (too lazy to upload) and receive the SMV run. Overall time being 1m 17s.

My cousin just his baby girl, and I'm expected to visit him tommorrow or sometime this week. DEFINIATELY THIS WEEK. So the GB Player will be in my grasp by Saturday. Allowing taping to finally begin.

Besides searching for other 100% single level times to beat, which at the moment I'm in the process of doing 2-3, I'm ready for the single segment. I've practiced to the core, and am ready, just waiting...

As of now, the submit will contain:
» 1-1 100% time of 1m 17s
» 1-2 100% time of 1m 17s
» (possibly 2-3 record beaten)
» Single segment.

And finnaly a question to Marshmellow, on your level 2-3 speed run, I can't seem to trigger the 2 red coins you do whenever you hit the "?" cloud with the key, and the "?" containing 5 stars after the fuzzies. =\ Mind helping me out and exactly what triggers them?
I'm not marshmallow, but I know a lot about this game. Could you be more specific about that part, because there are no fuzzies in 2-3 and the key isn't in a ?-cloud.
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Oh, I'm sorry I meant 1-7. xD

Also, I got the GBA player, and I must say I hate the gamecube controller when it comes to retro games. I'd rather find the damn SNES version anyday. T_T

Taping'll begin tommorrow. I practiced the 1-1, and 1-2 runs I mentioned, though one thing does suck, it talleys the overall world score after the individual level score at the end of the level, so that's an extra 30 seconds on the run. =\ Also the resolution of the GBA version is smaller, so I have to jump higher on certain parts to get the camera to register whenever I hit a high flower. ;_;

The VHS'll be submitted by Friday. Grin And if anyone knows a shortcut that I couldn't find in any 100% runs currently hosted, point 'em out to me so I can try it before I submit. Remember, so far on the VHS is..

» 1-1 100%
» 1-2 100%
» 1-7 (if someone helps me out on the 2 red coin delima)
» 2-3 (some tuning still needs to be done before I confirm I can beat Marhs's time)
» YI single seg, hopfully 2h 10m-ish.
Oh I see, he's using the flashing eggs. They're the ones you get above the bandit house.

You'd probably want to get the SNES version of YI instead of this, but....

Hori pad is good!

Just a sidenote, but I found a way to skip the scrolling in level 1-E.  If you use the bats in the begining to propel yourself to the left, and then go to the right and flutter kick to each platform, at one point you can float down, and go get poochie, and complete the level without the side-scrolling crap.
I like this site name cause it's easy to remember.
Wow! You really need stuff like that if you're going for speed!

xD, well If I could order online, then I would've just gotten a SNES cart, and rid of the GB Player. Because it's presenting me with porblems.

Could you be more specific on this? All I manage to do is hit a bat as they come toward me, flutter near a wall at the beginning of the level and that's it. =\ Both walls are too high to reach the top of them, and the scrolling still kicks in.

In other news, today I officially recorded 1-1 100% with 1m 15.3s. Smiley Won't Radix be happy! I'll record 1-2 later tonight.
Ok, I have images saved but I think it would be better If I am more elaborate.

You need to remain inside the initial space (not make the screen scroll) and then jump from bat to bat (hitting an enemy makes you flutter higher obviously) while not making the screen scroll which would start the auto-scrolling.  It's quite easy after a few combinations of bats are tried.  You make your way to the top of the left wall, jumping from bat to bat.  Then you flutter kick to the next top off a wall.  You may not have to make it all the way, there seems to be an invisible line of pixels that start the scrolling, if you are off the screen when you flutter, you will skip it!  I might post pictures later...
Did anyone else know you can start a level faster by rapidly pressing the L and R buttons? Works for the SNES but doesn't seem to work for the GB version.
Ok, there are 2 images in a zip, I dunno if they will help

Ok DK64, I second that, it works. Definitely a time saver. But it'll take like 30 seconds minimum to get up there because the cliff top is like 3 screens up. You also have to jump no lower than the top or the screen scrolling starts.
Pretty sweet.
LOL, in the TAS forums on Bisqwits site, they found this out 2 weeks before me! Shocked  What a coincidence.  I can't seem to play their version of a 100% run (Work in Progress) because my ROM might be jacked, but I'm sure they can skip the "invisible" scroll barrier in a matter of like 10 seconds.  You probably don't even have to go to the top of the screen, but me too lazy to check out all permutations.

I can do it consistently on an emulator in 25-30 seconds, without save stating.  Is that enough time to beat Marsh's record while getting 100%?

Emulator movies are notoriously hard to work right. You almost have to have the exact same computer as the guy who made it.

=\ Damn remake edited that out, it's practically impossible for me to get up there. So I don't know. ;_;

Not true. xD All you need is the same emulator version or later, and the same rom used. If you're trying to view the YI minimum% run at Bisqwit, then you need:

- SNES9x v1.43+ (Yes it had + in the title, v1.43 doesn't work)
- "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (U) (M3) (v1.0) [!]" rom.

In other news:
Today I'll practice single segment. Tomorrow finalizing, and hopefully being shiped off by Sunday or Monday. ;] Now, my question is for mailing a VHS, like what is required? A small box to put it in and shiping costs right?
O_0
Head to your local post office and tell them you want to ship via Priority Mail. They'll provide you with a small box, but bring some newspaper to stash in it so it doesn't bounce around. It costs about $3.50 and ships in 2-3 days.
I'm addicted to games
Or you could go the cheap route... use a bubble mailer or something similar and ask for "media mail". only like $1.50 but takes a week instead of 2-3 days.
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Okay, thanks y'all. Recording'll be in process tommorrow.

I found 3 new shortcuts, 2 useful, and can be found in the run, and 1 omited because it takes longer than just the straight route:

#1, found in 2-2:

Once in front of the beanstalk flower, grab a shy guy, I eat the yellow one, jump on top of the green one coming out of the pipe, flutter kick to the edge skipping the beanstalk entirely, (that's not the shortcut) continue through the cave thingy to the top. Once at the top, spit UP (any other direction will kill the thing) towards the left pole, jump on the shy guy, flutter kick on the first red one with a red coin, hit the other one, flutter OVER the right pole, fall down a little so the camera lets you land on top of the cave with the spikes and checkpoint. And continue forth, skipping the Baby Mario thing. ;]

#2, found in 2-4:

Once you exit the first door, and am in the room with the stairs, go to the corner with the door and the gate preventing to go in. You may need to move the camera several times..but the ghost shy guy will come toward you, stuck in the gate, at that point you can eat him, spit him up, jump on him and flutter to the left edge and jump into the 2nd level. Skipping the 3rd level entirely, the key, the door and all that. Cheesy

#3, found in 2-7:

This one is wildly pathetic. And takes too many words to explain. To sum it up, I end up grabbing one of the green bullets, climbing to where the spinning wheel of shy guys are, flutter on top of one the shy guys, then in midair, spit the bullet out, jump on it, and be over the pole, skipping the next one, skipping the whole "block falling" part. This method takes 30 seconds longer. >>;

Oh man, I thought I told you your second shortcut a long time ago, but it was a different person who was trying it.

Heh, hope you didn't try too hard to find it  Tongue
I don't think he's working on it anymore.
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Thanks soteos for the 411. ;x I'll be off to practice more and post a updated overall single seg time tommorrow. Hopefully 2hours 8minutes like Lightweight had.
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Alright, well this is it, enough stalling, I feel I've gotten alot of suport over this, and now is time. My cousin wants his GB Player back Thursday, so I practiced my ASS off today. And tommorrow is time! Though I forgot to time myself, let me break down my [still] weak points that I was hoping to iron out before being forced to record tommorrow:

1) I absolutely SUCK at 5-3. I wouldn't be surprised if I either die twice or more, or fudge up and get too much crap and get stuck with a bonus challenge, or both. =\

2) Due to endurance and all, everthing will go fine until I get like past 4-5. THat's when my mistakes are due to endurance. Anything before that will go 100% kickass.

3) I HATE WORLD 5! OMG, every level is just something I don't look forward to. Except 5-4, that level is fun, I'll be recocheting my eggs everywhere since I have nothing better to do in forced scroll situations. Wink

4) World 6 in general I do better, everthing goes smooth until 6-4. I'm with Marsh on how random those damn blobs get. Last time I practiced I aced them easily. Now I had to refill for eggs 3 times on the second one... =\ I hope it goes for the better tomorrow.

5) The overall time. My goal was ultiamtely sub 2 hours. Yet I hate to admit I'm not at the point where my shortcuts are second nature and that's gonna happen. None of my single seg practiced have goon smooth enough for sub 2 hours, best was like.. 2h 14m. I KNOW the absolute best is like 1h 45-50m....*sigh*

Again, I would like to thank everyone who has supported me, anyone who has helped'll be mentioend in the comments once the tape is shipped. Wish me luck for tomorrow. Wink Thank you.
1 more comment to make sure I'm mentioned  Grin
If you get stuck with a bonus challenge like the double-card flipping one, why not get a green watermelon to use on the 2nd blob in 6-4. The bonus will be quicker than having to refill your eggs once.
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
..I am so damn angry right now! I attempted to record the run today. And well, here's the summary:

Since I've already successfully recorded 100% 1-1 and 1-2, I don't exactly have 2 hours for the single segment, so I have to record the single seg in SLP. =\ After doing that, starting up and playing, World 1 went lovely.

World 2, however, I died on 2-1 trying to be show off on the falling rock part. Everything went well afterward. World 3 was aced.

And as predicted, World 4 is when things get crappy, I can absolutely own 4-4, every room flawless, yet today just sucked so much ass. I end up losing Mario on every room. And in the bottom left room, where the flame jumps, it's HELL to pass up and not get hit, which wasn't a problem on SMW2, but they decided to make it a bitch to get over. Boss went exceptionally well.

World 5...*sigh*...*mega sigh*...I died on 5-1 3 times. I aimed my egg at the plant too late and lose mario. I go too fast and a bolder smashes me into the endless pit, twice. 5-2 I died four times, my shortcut to skip the snowball somehow manages to get a different result each time, whether a penguin decides to a different direction, or the spikeguy jumps higher..or something, somehow, manages to go wrong. At the end of the level, where I bounch off everything to skip the skis, the camera is lower than it usually is and doesn't register me to propel high enough to reach the final edge..so I fall and die. Finnaly beating it, I get to 5-3, which if you don't know from the last post, completely hate EVERY PART of. I died shortly. Then I died from a penguin hitting me into a pit. Then a egg doesn't hit the spikes in the ice and goes under it..die. Then I miss a ledge, die. Then, once I FINNALY make it to the ski part, ...die.

And I had it, I had over 15 minuites in death on the run, and I would just kick myself if I submitted such filth. I'm attempting it a second time in a couple of hours once my nerves calm. -_- ;; So I cut the VCR off.

From what the VCR recorded, the tape stoped at 1h 35m 35s, and I was still on 5-3. When I should have been at 5-7, which would make a huge difference (remember 5-4 and 5-6 have forced scroolls). My goal next time is to at least be 6-1 within 1h 40-45m...But I doubt it'll happen. I'll post results of what single seg attempt #2 goes later tonight.

Are you sure Radix will even accept SLP?
