German to the Past
Hey folks,

I just picked up ALTTP for speedrunning. After my stream yesterday I've refined my safe strats for the run and wanted to share them in order to get inspiration from others or even help other runner that are new to ALTTP out. This is the normal route for Any%, no OoB/S&Q. My safety nets are marked with bold texts:

* Escape
* Cathedral Heart
* Eastern Palace
* Boots
* Book
* Desert Palace
* Healing at Old Man
* Hera's Tower
* Mushroom
* Master Sword
* Aghanim
* Palace of Darkness
* Flute
* Bottle 1
* Bug net
* Bottle 2 (only if 100 spare rupees)
* Powder (Flute to 2)

* Thieves' Town
* Tempered Sword
* Double Magic
* Bottle 2 (if not allready bought)
* Skeletton Forest
* Quake Medallion
* Flippers
* Ice Palace
* Swamp Palace
* Eather Medallion
* Ice Rod
* Misery Mire
* Turtle Rock
* Ganon's Tower (Red Mail)
* Golden Sword & Silver Arrows
* Ganon

What do you think?
Take care!

Regards from Germany.
Just a couple things you'll need to consider.  First of all, the 1st bottle and net cost about 30 seconds where you have them listed now, but if you're having trouble at any point in the early game, you can get them after desert for a cost of 42 seconds instead.  It's not too much longer and gives you more security for Helmasaur.  It also gives you a better fairy placement with a tree under the flute boy's area having a fairy in it.  Second, you need to work out your rupees specifically to get that 2nd bottle, otherwise you'll never get it with normal rupee routing.  I'd suggest the 300 rupee cave in the area below Link's House in the dark world.  You can get that after Darkness.  Third, gold sword and silver arrows are faster to get right after Swamp instead of waiting until the end of the game.

Everything else looks fine.

Thanks for your input :). I will try out your route in my next training run. Normally I am fine in the early game, so I would not need the fairys for Helmasaur. Also I would have to skip the fake flippers, wouldn't I? So I couldn't train those.

Ran into a problem with powder. In orser to get it I had to fly back to switch worlds (similar to Tempered sword). So this costs a lot of time. But I think powder is such a good safty strat. Don't know what to do with that.

Edit:
I thought really hard about the powder-problem. Maybe a little bit too much. I think I found a better safe route which also has the early net, bottle and fairys for the Helmasaur fight. Again: Kudos to Stinger for lots of things I was not aware of.
New route (with annotations):

* Escape
* Cathedral Heart
* Eastern Palace
* Boots
* Book
* Bug net *
* Bottle 1 *

* Desert Palace
* Healing at Old Man
* Hera's Tower
* Mushroom
* Master Sword
* Aghanim
* Powder **
* Palace of Darkness
* 300 Rupees ***
* Flute
* Bottle 2
* Thieves' Town
* Tempered Sword
* Double Magic
* Skeletton Forest
* Quake Medallion
* Flippers
* Ice Palace
* Swamp Palace
* Golden Sword & Silver Arrows
* Eather Medallion
* Ice Rod
* Misery Mire
* Turtle Rock
* Ganon's Tower (Red Mail)
* Ganon

Annotaions:
* If you want the early bottle and bug net it would be more efficient to get them after Desert Palace, on your way to Death Mountain - I'll get them here because I want to train Fake Flippers. As soon as I am confident in my the first three DW-dungeons I'll rework the route to get net, bottle after Darkness and Powder before getting flippers
** Since you have to do a DW-LW-cylce similiar to the tempered sword I found it to be faster to just take the detour before Darkness. You'll also get the benefit of having the option to get fairys before Helmasaur.
*** Those are needed in order to get bottle 2 in Kakariko and the super bomb after Swamp
Using Fake Flippers is faster even with the early bottle.  The general order of quickness regarding the first bottle goes as follows: No bottle > Bottle before Thieves > Bottle before Desert (while using FF after Hera) > Bottle after Hera > Bottle before Desert (no FF after Hera)

Regarding Magic Powder, the fastest point to get it is immediately when you get the Flute.  You get the duck, fly to the witch, then fly back to Kakariko exactly where you took off from.

I'd also suggest going over your rupee route to make sure you have enough rupees where you need them.  Depending on whether you do the hammerjump in PoD, you could have a rupee shortage somewhere.

EDIT:  One other thing, you need to do Misery Mire before Swamp Palace to get the gold sword.  The DW dungeon order is PoD, Thieves, Skull Woods, Ice Palace, Misery Mire, Swamp Palace, TRock.  The game requires you to beat Ice Palace and Mire before you can get the super bomb for opening the pyramid.

I usally do the bomb jump in PoD. If I get an early bottle, not getting powder before PoD would not guarantee a fairy before Helmasaur, would it? Or would you consider getting a fairy in Hear's?

Your help is much appreciated.
When I get the bottle before Desert, I use the fairy tree that comes up in the area underneath the Flute Boy's area.  Just netdash into it from the left side, and it's an easy grab that doesn't take any time at all.

Wow. Did not tink of that.
doing Mire before Swamp makes the route on Zeldaspeedruns outdated, I guess? It still lists Swamp before Mire. How do you clear the room with the spiked floor without taking too much damage without the hookshot? Route would be:

* Escape
* Cathedral Heart
* Eastern Palace
* Boots
* Book
* Bug net
* Bottle 1

* Flute-Fairy
* Desert Palace
* Healing at Old Man
* Hera's Tower
* Mushroom
* Master Sword
* Aghanim
* Palace of Darkness
* 300 Rupees (if needed)
* Flute
* Bottle 2
* Powder
* Thieves' Town
* Tempered Sword
* Double Magic
* Skeletton Forest
* Quake Medallion
* Flippers
* Ice Palace
* Eather Medallion
* Ice Rod
* Swamp Palace
* Misery Mire
* Golden Sword & Silver Arrows
* Turtle Rock
* Ganon's Tower (Red Mail)
* Ganon
Mire before Swamp is for the gold sword route, tempered route still does Swamp -> Mire.

If the spike room you're referring to is the one after getting cane of somaria then you should take the same damage with or without hookshot.
