Hello there, Polyblank!

With a whole bunch of new runners, I realized that we just didnt have a go-to discussion thread for Jazzpunk.
It's a great and not-so-serious game that has a relative easy but still entertaining speedrun.

Current Leaderboards:

Dev Update Page (Important for the builds/categories):
http://www.gog.com/forum/jazzpunk#1416735294

We had a few discussions about timing and categories in the past and I'm still open for new suggestions.

So far, there are 3 "any%" categories that all rely on different versions of the game, although we might have to narrow these down to two in the near future. (Discussion below).
YetiHype also did a run where he did all achievements. That run used to be called "100%" but by the nature of the only trackable thing being the steam achievements, I felt like this was a misleading name and it's therefore now "(all) achievements%".

-- ANY% PATCHLESS --

WR: 15:55 by Rebcart

This run is the "true" any% spirit of the game, run on an unpatched version.
Timing starts on "Start" in menu, Ends with Credits.

Due to the nature of the early state of the game, the run is unstable and misses a lot of comfort options, like disabling mouse smoothing + adjusting sensitivity, the reticle and keyboard mapping.
It is, though, the fastest possible time the game can be beaten.

This is the "original 'retail' " version and can be found as .iso only since the game has always been digital and there are no CD versions available.

-- ANY% CURRENT PATCH --

WR: 17:36 by MolluskMoth

This run is the easily accessible version via Steam. It is currently on build 7 (since July 09, 2014) of the game.
Timing starts on first imput (wasd movement), Ends with last imput eating the pills before credits.

Since this run will be considered the "most stable & comfortable version to play on", it is also the prefered version to run this game on for marathons and events. This is just a recommendation though as >I< personally would love this to be the most competitive version unless we get a build 6 patch / version somewhere.

The game has just one reliable soft-lock in the current patch version (Kai-Tak Resort Crash). This crash only occurs when loading a new game after having entered the Night Resort in a previous playthrough.
It is therefore essential to restart the game after every playthrough that has gotten past the loading screen between the two versions of the resort!!!.
Pre-Loading both levels before a run is fine though. This crash only occurs during a full run of the game.

-- ALL ACHIEVEMENTS% --

Currently I would recommend following the guidelines of the runs Yeti and Sam did on the Leaderboards. I have no further information than that this run aims to achieve all steam achievements in one run.

-- Build 6 (Outdated) --

This run is the old version via Steam that was run between early 2014 and July of 2014 (where most PBs were made on the leaderboards). It is run specifically on build 6 (up until July 09, 2014) of the game.

This used to be the current patch version until lately when I realized that an essential time save at the very end of the game (where you pick up the pills before they are dispensed) was missing on the current patch.
Because most times in the current leaderboard were run on this version, I will categorize all runs before July 09 2014", because this version is no longer current patch, but faster.
The category is just as stable and comfortable as the build 7 version, it just lacks the time save in the end.

Sadly, this version isnt available and cannot be restored for anyone so far, which makes this category obsolete. I am keeping the times in case we will find a build 6 version of the game on the internet or somebody gets their hands on a version downpatch.

-- Unpatched vs Current Patch --

Why even bother with having two categories of the game?

Well, to be fair, it really is much up to personal preference, but out of experience, people would rather play on the current patch than the unpatched version.
Distribution of the unpatched version isnt really too much of a factor here though, since, you know, you can still get it from places. If you cannot get your hands on you, feel free to PM me.
Much more impact is the lack of key mapping and the missing mouse sensitivity support.

Both arent essential to the run, that's why I agree that the unpatched version is still the technically "true any% version of the game".

But considering how bad the mouse smoothing in the unpatched version is, that alone leads to a lot of mistakes being made just because of bad controls. It just doesnt feel nice and I hope even the two hardcore speedrunners that went through and recorded a time in this category will agree. Key mapping is also something that makes the run nicer. Not necessarily faster, but just much better to control. You can still run it on the default layout though.

A huge benefit of the unpatched version is the usage of a completely new mechanic (the save storage) that allows to skip pretty much all of the day version of the resort. There are also a hand full of other exploits that will make this version faster by pretty much 3 minutes.

But then there are also the crashes. Other than current patch, there are much more soft-locks and loading errors that seem random so far. Therefore, the unpatched version seems not save for marathons (NSFM). If you are willing to endure the frustration, go ahead and do your thang, polywang. Nobody will stop you. I just personally do not prefer the version, even though it is faster.

Oh, by the way, here's some OoB I've found. Sadly, none of these are relevant for the run since many sections are pre-loaded but cannot be reached.

I still get a soft lock on the newest patch at Gravy Race if I switch from the gravy packet to the remote control too quickly. Not sure how consistent it is, just saying I've experienced it on the Steam version.
MoMo
Yes, that is pretty much the only known soft-lock that appears to be triggered by something. Another one is losing the ball or getting the ball into a wrong hole during golf and also sometimes you seem to not be able to enter cars.

Oh also here's my not-so-good currentpatch wr run: http://www.twitch.tv/molluskmoth/c/6032465

I need to redo that this week to set a sub 17:30 time
Just watched the VOD... how are you able to do the Cake save warp on the current patch?
Wow, nevermind, I just tried it and it still works. I thought that was removed from the patched versions, but apparently not.
MoMo
I thought the same thing. Important feature is the setup. Preloading the phone cutscene is a must.
So you start the timer when you gain control rather than when you press "Start New Game"? I thought we were supposed to start the timer from the main menu.

Here's the highlight everybody has been waiting for:

Is there a Wedding Qake speedrun yet?
MoMo
Not that I know of, but I know ProgamingwithEd managed to get a perfect game (10-0 with no other frags).
Hey Guys!
I hope all these new runners are still active!
Just recently started running the game, would love if the community was still here.

So while looking at yeti's tutorial on YouTube, I saw that the whistle in the Consulate would sometimes fall to the floor on the side, costing a couple of seconds. While practicing/messing around, I found out that if you back off from the table, click the cereal box 3 times, and then do the last click to drop the whistle up against the table, it falls right on top of it almost every time (tested about 5 times, didn't have a lot of time. Gonna test it some more to see how reliable it actually is. Hope it helps!

P.S: If communication here becomes frequent, a Skype group would be a pretty good idea, just a suggestion!
not a hiptser shut up
Yes we're still here!
Astro weren't you gonna try to route noclip%? That'd be interesting.
not a hiptser shut up
and i'd be down for a skype group. That could be fun
I have a route, but there still isn't any good skips on the Bachelor Pad
Here's the link to the route. http://pastebin.com/rCaaLrUS

I did some attempts on running Wedding Qake and got a time of 37 seconds.

I also had this weird glitch during one of my attempts.

Is this game still being worked on? Also, any word about that Skype group?

Edit: My skype is Tetrabaz, so if there IS a skype group (I seem to be unable to get in contact with ChurroxD through skype), send me an invite and let me know you're from the SDA forums!
I'm interested in this game, too. I've been playing but I can't do the Wedding Qake skip, whenever I try it, The Editor doesn't have his attache case and that scuppers it for me. Is there a guide to doing it anywhere?

There is a setup prior to the run. You need to load up the hotel level at least once during a playthrough and pick up the suitcase + phone and save. The glitch only works until you close the game, then you have to do the setup again.

Also I am super happy with my time. There is a "new" skip that I got very consistent at that saves roughly a second but I am focusing on other games at the moment.
But there's a setup so you can drop through the hole of the tarp at the pool in the night level of the hotel and save the time lost with the falling animation when going down the ladder since it's instantly activating the trigger.
This isnt super consistent and as I said it only saves a second so I'd only use it when really grinding for the record anyways. You can get stuck there for several seconds and easily lose time.

E: sub 17:30 is absolutely possible on currentpatch. I'd go as far and say that you could probably get a sub 17:20 with perfect golf and all the skips. I suck at that and I could easily save 5 more seconds there.
