Japan Relief Done Quick is the next charity marathon we'll be doing from April 7th at 4 pm EDT through April 10th (78 hours after the start). All donations will be going to Doctors Without Borders to assist with medical efforts in Japan. Unlike previous SDA marathons, this one will not be at a centralized location, but instead have all runners streaming from their home (or wherever they have access to a good stream setup). Because of this, there will have to be a lot more guidelines involved for making the stream successful (but if you're participating, you're already aware of those at this point).

Spread the word around and use that banner above at will.

Here is the site we're using for info on the marathon:
http://speeddemosarchive.com/marathon/

Here is the schedule which includes all commentators and donation trackers for participants' reference:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?hl=en&key=tHAT2Gng3bl7qpJ92EfTkYg&hl=en

There will be a game stream and commentator stream embedded on SDA's main page, just like previous marathons.

LISTS OF PARTICIPANTS AND GAMES

First Draft of Schedule

Commentators who are not running a game (skype+webcam, availability) <-UPDATE THIS AFTER WAKING UP

Promoters (video edit+art, important sites)
Anyone who has YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc. should use them to their full effect for promoting.

Prizes (prize possessor/creator, types of prizes) <-UPDATE THIS AFTER WAKING UP

Sea of Green
I can definitely contribute some knitted prizes to this marathon, provided they're quick ones (i.e. smaller prizes like Kirby, a Metroid or two, a Luma, etc.). Just need to know what games we're playing.

Edit: Also, picture list here
Quote:
I honestly don't mind if you can't commentate during your run (Mr. K doing Contra 3, yes please), as that just means we're probably going to need an additional stream for just commentating in those instances.

If this is the case then I'd definitely be willing to participate. I can run Metroid Prime 1 (any%) and Metroid Prime 2 (any% or 100%, though 100% is probably too long). For the times I'm available, it'd be best if it was at night (9 PM - 6 AM EST) on any day of the marathon. Don't have time estimates for them at the moment, will need to figure that out.

This is a really good choice for a marathon. I'll push my "Japanese games only" idea here; it's definitely appropriate. I mean "Japanese-developed games" here, no Japanese copies of Grand Theft Autos or Chameleon Kid or anything stupid like that; something like StarTropics might count, though. I'd be pushing it if I said something like "Japanese versions only, as well", but if that sounds good too, go for it.

It's time for some HEErooooOOOOHi cs!
Count me in for at least a few games, I can at least pull off Ninja Gaiden 1. I have both Skype and my connection is good enough for streaming with good quality.

Here's a list of games I can do:
Ninja Gaiden 1 - 15:30-16:00 if things go awry
La-Mulana - 2:30:00 pending on luck, and if anyone even wants it

List of possibles:
Ninja Gaiden 2 - 12:00-13:00 dunno, might one week warrior learning it
Star Tropics 2 - 1:10:00 yeah, this is a huge maybe and pretty doubtful.
Metroid - 20:00 only if people REALLY wanna see this again...

Times I'll be available: Usually in the afternoon/evening. I'm gonna say 4:00PM and beyond PST.

Despatche we'd be severely limiting the possibilities of runners if we did that (a lot of people are good at North American-made PC games and such but not at traditional Japanese titles), so for now I'm just going to say no to that. The game content of this marathon doesn't matter as much as the actual charity.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Here's what I can do off the top of my head.

Castle Crashers - 1:20-1:25ish - Honestly this is probably kind of boring single-player without group commentary.

Rocket Knight Adventures - 0:35:00 (this includes setup!) - I haven't played since the marathon, but I can two week warrior the game again if necessary.

Sunset Riders - 0:25:00 - Again, haven't played in a while, but if I just played a bunch I could probably consistently 1cc this.

Contra III - 0:20:00 - I'd rather let Mr. K do this, but maybe I could pick this up again?

I'd like to do something else, but I can't think of anything else I could do on such short notice except maybe for one of the Genesis Shinobi games.

I'm usually available 11am-3am (roughly) EST.
If my internet is good:
Ocarina of Time NTSC-J (All dungeons/MST) - 3:45:00 if everything goes wrong and my game crashes. Probably 3:00-3:10.

I stream with a webcam, but it is pretty good quality. (I spent forever optimizing it)
I could probably do this late like 2am-5am EST. Any of those days are prob fine
Talk to the Hand
Magician! Let's say....22 minutes; I don't know if I'd necessarily want to try the strats I'll be using in the submitted run. That also gives us ending time and a setup buffer as well.
Professional Second Banana
I'd be up for chatoping and/or commentating (I can do Skype and/or webcam), and can be available basically any time during the marathon except for 6PM-10PM US Central Daylight Time on Thursday, 2PM-6PM CDT on Saturday, and I'd prefer no overnight shifts (12AM-8AM CDT) if possible.  If we're going to have commentary be about the gameplay as well as the charity, I could probably talk the most about the following series:

Castlevania (NES/SNES/PS1)
Megaman (NES/SNES/PS1)
Square/Enix RPGs
Is PJ
I am probably available to run and commentate during this block.  I don't know what days in particular, but I am definitely down for both.  No idea which of my games would be good to play, but I'm definitely open for suggestions.  I can't run NES at the moment (no way to stream or capture RF input), so no Battletoads or Battletoads & Double Dragon.

But yea, even if I don't run anything I'd be happy to help out however I can.

Glitching EB 1 flying man at a time
I could do a couple, maybe one of the games I have on SDA (if I can figure which one I can learn in just a week).

Also, Earthbound will happen: will be about 2:45.

Think of Earthbound as a preview for next year's marathon.

Times I'm available I will work out, but it will be Friday late or Saturday
SEGA Junkie
I'm going to do some test streams to see if my internet will hold up, but if it does I'm totally down for participating!

Stuff I could run:
-Sonic 3 & Knuckles (any character, ~1 hour with horrible luck)
-Sonic Advance 3, 100% (1.5 hours, I could probably learn the any% routes in a pinch which would be closer to 50 minutes)
-Splosion Man (remote co-op might be an option, but 3-9 AHHHHHHH. Single player would be a little over two hours I think)

I don't know when I'll be able to stream yet, since I don't yet have my work schedule for that week. We'll see how it goes.
Waiting hurts my soul...
I can stream Saturday night or early morning on Sunday. Jak & Daxter is the only one I can do consistently, under 2 hours. Although... I guess I could also do Hercules: The Legendary Journeys in 1:40 as well.
Willing and able to stream:
VVVVVV (16-20min) - Can definitely do this one, this fast.
Super Metroid 100% (2hr real time), I'm just a little shaky on this one, as there are a couple places where I could screw up, but that estimate should be good +/- 10 min. Also I dont know how to do any%, as I am kind of gung-ho with bosses.

I haven't made any recordings on my stream page, but I am fairly certain my setup is good. I would prefer not to do this much later 1:00AM or 2:00AM MST, becuase my play quality for VVVVVV/SM begins to rapidly decline after then (can still easily make my estimate in any condition, but I would liek to show a GOOD run)

I would not mind streaming on:
THU: 3PM-2AM
FRI: 6PM-...not sure really
SAT:12PM->12AM
SUN...Would prefer not to, but I could work out a time sometime i guess.
These times all in Mountain Standard time, sorry to make you convert timezones.
Preferably, I would do a VVVVVV on a thursday, and a Super Metroid run on FRI/SAT

I stream via webcam as cosmo does. I believe my quality is just a tiny bit worse than cosmo's, but if you need to judge for yourself you can watch http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/13337159

I'll understand if the quality isn't good enough for a marathon broadcast. If it is, though, I'd be comfortable running perhaps 3 of the following titles (all estimates do NOT account for setup time):

Super Mario RPG | 3:10:00 for a safe estimate accomodating a trainwreck/failing 100 jumps or Mack Skip repeatedly due to nerves
Tetris Attack | 8:00 realtime
Trip World | 8:00
Joe & Mac 2 | no estimate, I can determine one if you guys want an obscure game like this lol
Super Mario Bros. (warps) | 6:00
Goof Troop (as Goofy) | no estimate, can determine one if needed
Kid Icarus | 40:00ish if I get shit luck
Dr. Mario (NES or N64) | 45:00 realtime
Kirby's Avalanche | 12:00 realtime, normal (run starts from Poppy Bros. Sr., not Broom Hatter)
Wario's Woods | 28:00 for a normal mode run with the fewest matches / 40:00 for an expert/challenge mode run with the fewest matches

For the last four games listed I'd need to know kind of in advance in order to get in practice for them, as I'm currently rustier at those than at the other games.

Time slots I could play in:
Friday 2am - 6am
Saturday 2am - 7am
Sunday 2am - 7am

I can commentate on various older console Nintendo games, I'll post about this when the schedule's actually forming.

Haven't read the first post completely yet but just from what I picked up I'd be willing to participate in this. I can definitely do Sonic 4 (25-30 minutes) and maybe practice Metroid Prime 3 (~4 hours) a little bit. As for schedule, I honestly have no idea what time I'll be available on the date, but I'm just going to guess and say sometime in the evening (EST) would probably be good for me. I stream from a capture card and don't commentate.

Oh, if we could set it up then Miles and I could do a Metroid Prime 1 race.

edit: I might be able to do Other M instead of Prime 3.. not sure. I'd need to learn a lot, but I think I might prefer it over Prime 3. If I did, it would be about 3 hours. My third game is probably either Prime 3, Other M, or Sonic 06, not sure which one I want to do; I'll figure it out soon.
Everything's better with Magitek
I'm glad to hear we're doing something for Japan.  I'd be to play and/or commentate, and I'm available anytime Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.  I have a microphone and would be willing to commentate during my runs, and I also have Skype (though I've hardly used it).

I could run any of the following games:
Donkey Kong Country 2 - 1:00
Dr. Mario 64 - 0:45
Lego Harry Potter - 1:30
Lego Star Wars II (co-op if I can talk Denton into it again Wink ) - 2:30

I don't know if you want longer games, but if so I could also do one of the following:
Final Fantasy 6 - 6:00
Chrono Trigger - 6:30
Final Fantasy X - 12:00

I can promote this on the Speed Gamers forums (although they've already got a bunch of community marathons organized for Japanese relief).  I can also promote on Youtube, Twitter, and Facebook.
We all scream for Eyes Cream
I might do better streaming at my current location than before, however I think I'll pass since I might have to be pulled out of the way for something. However, if on the off chance I might be able to stream, I can do Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes. Runs with any character will last about 30ish minutes.

Oh and I'd like to commentate on  Mike's Castle Crasher's run if possible. Cheesy Commentating is alright if I have to be pulled away I hope. Otherwise I can just mod the chat.

The Speedrunning Teacher
I'm definitely game for this. My connection is good enough that I can stream and commentate at the same time (haven't tried it with Skype going as well as the stream, though I imagine that it will work as I've played online games while streaming before).

As for when I can stream (All times Mountain Time):
Thursday - After 5 PM until Midnight
Friday - From 1 PM until Midnight
Saturday - Anytime

What games I can run:
Sonic Spinball - 0:45
Sonic 3D Blast - 0:45
Rocket Knight Adventures - 0:45 - Possible race?
Decap Attack - Under an hour (I'll get a good estimated time tomorrow)
Dynamite Headdy - Need to get an estimated time tomorrow
Rocket Knight - ~1 hour

I have Mario Kart Wii if there are several of us that want to do online multiplayer races.

I'm also available to do a network game of Castle Crashers, though I may not be as good as Mike or others.
Intruding N313 and F014
If there are times where a commentator is needed, I can help with that.  I have Skype, and I can do video.
I am probably most useful helping moderate the chat.

I can participate. I can do RE1-3 (1:30 each, same as last time), Castlevania AoS (40 minutes real time roughly), MGS (1:30), and if wanted, i'll practice up for Dino Crisis (1:30). Pick your poisons.

Fiiine, I'll run 7th Saga.  I know some of you were worried, but fear no more.

Edit:  Oh, I need an estimate.  I think 15 hours should account for any possible character donations.
