The game Risk of Rain has an in-game timer that could be used for its speedruns. However, there's two potential issues with it, and I'm wondering whether either of them disqualifies it from SDA timing.

1. The timer is frame based. The game is capped at 60 FPS, so you can't speed up the timer, but if you have a low framerate, the timer slows down just as much, which can potentially give the advantage of easier reaction timing. Sadly the game's performance is pretty mediocre at some points, so for some people (e.g. me) this slowdown is currently unavoidable.
2. The timer can be intentionally frozen. There are two (random) item pickups that stop time for a few seconds, including the in-game timer. This is an intended feature, because the longer the run takes, the higher the difficulty of mob spawns becomes. From my own experience, the time gained from abusing these time freeze items is comparable to other powerful item drops.

Murphagator suggested different categories for RTA/IGT, but considering the odds are higher that you'd never find a time freeze item, I don't see that as a reasonable solution. Other runners have suggested/decided to just never pick up time freeze items in order to avoid this issue, but that still leaves issue #1.
Thread title:
In general, ingame time is only used if it reasonably represents the actual ingame time. For example, in Borderlands 1, the ingame timer is... kinda weird, therefore it isnt used, while it is the timing method used in Borderlands 2. If the runs timed by RT/IGT differ from one another enough to make sense to split in categories, that would be a good idea. If not, use RTA I guess, since timing is preferred framerate independant.

Issue #2 shouldn't be a problem. See Marble Blast Gold, where Time Travel powerups stop the time for 5 seconds (intentional because that's how you beat the Gold Times).

Issue #1 however IS problematic. If we want IGT we'll have to force the runner for 60fps, otherwise use normal speedrunning rules and ignore IGT.
Meh, that sucks. My current record is 20:06 game time, but almost 30 minutes RTA, due to dxtory recording significantly slowing the game. I'll have to find some way to eliminate that lag then. :/
