I still have all videos and saves backed up so I can pick up the project whenever I like to. I'm basically waiting for the right moment to get back into this because I keep getting bogged down in ~other things~. I'll be helping Uraniumanchor to possibly bring Doom 3 to AGDQ next year, maybe that will give me the boost that I need to get this going again. We'll see, I guess.

piece of cake!
Hello Kibbo, and fred!

Glad to see you there, do you know it was Doom 3 10th years exactly after release?birthday when I did this commentary? Smiley
I also did a french commentary of your speedrun in nightmare, and also on quake 4, as jvc.com asked for it.
As for Quake 4, quite annoying to comment actually, and I still don't figure out what was the precise strategy on that tower guardian, you never explained this, except firing the ball at a certain time at a certain place in arm...
Bring back memories.

Ps: Alors fred on voit ma run sur jvc et on vient même pas m'en parler! Smiley

ahah well jerome, thing is you were supposed to link me but yeah, I think it was awesome, really liked the comment but its a shame you didnt mentionned me innit yaknow ahahahh

Watching this run and listening to your comment I almost felt like I have to start running this thing again lately, since our life went pretty much seperate from this speedrunning thing, I wonder if I really want to, anyway

Kibumbi, so you might finish your nightmare run actually heh ? Sounds like a plan!
Hi Kibbo, still waiting your great Nightmare run. I wish I could see it.

I've been spending the last couple of weeks replaying the game again and I'm feeling ready to pick this back up. Will start off with good old segment 30 that held me up for 6 months straight before I went on my hiatus. I will give that segment a total of one more month then it's time to move on to the next one.
id help you with with segments of this run
(or try :D)

During attempts today I discovered something that should've been discovered a long time ago but for some reason has gone unnoticed for almost 10 years of speedrunning this game. You climb up ladders slightly faster by holding the forward button instead of the jump button. I've always used the faster way but I just think it's funny I haven't noticed the difference until now.

Just to refresh memories here I'm uploading my current best time for segment 30 which is 29.866 by the time the doors at the end of the segment start to open. Now you may wonder what can be done better in this segment (it's already quite good) and what can be done better is landing in the middle of the door instead of to the side of the door, while at the same time doing everything just as good as in the 29.866. The biggest issue when trying to achieve this is that segment 30 is very random and most things affecting the final time of the segment is outside the runner's control, such as the shotgun spread RNG not killing the chainsaw zombie in one shot and enemies blocking the door while trying to get out of the room with the chainsaw and access PDA.

Great to see that you're on it again! Segment 30 looks really good.

I noticed a peculiar thing today while doing attempts. During the few attempts where the chainsaw zombie would actually die from one shotgun blast the enemies outside that storage room always seem to bunch up just outside the door, compared to the more spread out formation when I kill the same chainsaw zombie with two shotgun blasts. I. Hate. RNG.

Today was the last day for me to attempt and improve my current best time for segment 30 and I was unable to do it, which means that 29.866 seconds will stand. Next weekend I will begin attempts on segment 31 which is going to be very short. Segment 31 (illustrated in this image) will consist of a combined teleport-slope jump to get up onto that mobile service platform, and then from that platform do a ridiculously difficult strafe jump from a standstill start over to that sloped area, effectively bypassing a very large portion of the map where you use the service platform to eventually gain access to the exit.
Great! Looking forward for this topic

A little update with my first successul attempt of segment 31. It was pretty good and the boosted jump onto the mobile service platform was incredibly smooth, I even managed to squeeze between the safety railings which I honestly didn't think was possible until now. I'm also experimenting with some alternative routes in this room but so far nothing seem too promising.

Edit: Segment 31 may seem like an easy segment but it really isn't. During the second jump it's common for the cacodemons to either block your jump or use their fireballs to knock you out of alignment, and as this jump has to be more or less perfect any sort of disturbance will make you miss the jump and plummet to your death.

Edit: I have improved the segment a little bit. I can't really specify times as most points of reference in this segment are quite arbitrary so I'm looking how far into the segment I am when the second health tick happens, the further in I am when it happens that much faster is the attempt. This improvement is somewhere between 1-1.5 seconds faster than the first successful attempt.

Cant wait to see full run! Great job, but soooo sloow embarassed

I've been busy with my internship at a geriatric ward, that period will end this Sunday and I'll have some time and energy to work on the run again.

Today I was reminded of why you keep doing a few more attempts even though your segment looks really good. Managed to cut another second or so, seemingly from nowhere, from the already very short segment 31.
I'm really happy to see you back at this, hopefully you'll finish it because it will definitely be a run to watch.
Wow. Is this for real!

Insane, it's happening, best luck of all, I will be following this, ask if you need help on shit.

Bigup!
I wish that demos in this game weren't capped to 30FPS, because it would be usefull in a segmented run

Yes things are finally happening again. Although right now progress is slow because I have a lot on my plate in school with plenty of big exams coming up. In better news; today I achieved what I consider to be the final run of segment 31 that's going into the run, very smooth and clean execution.

Nope, every GUI shows empty and, the sizes of the .dems are enormous.

Kibumbi: Do you think that you could squeeze in an extra hop on the 45 degrees angled wall and one on the floor after it ?

Not on the slope because I'm simply too close to the ceiling and any jump will just make me bump into the ceiling and lose all momentum. I'm not entirely sure I want to do the second suggested jump either on the basis that I'm trying to not start the next segment in the middle of a strafe jump or similar clusterfuck. A single jump there would also only serve the purpose of saving some stamina. I'll do a little bit of experimenting to see if I can work something out.
Any progress?

Not yet. The time I have to spend on the run is very limited with studying and work at the same time. The route for the next segment is done but my attempts on it so far have been quite lackluster.

A little over a week ago most of my gaming PC was fried by a lightning strike and I will not be able to do any attempts until I have a new one. Fortunately the disks made it so no progress on the run has been lost. I should be able to order a new PC shortly after the 25th when my salary arrives.
