These are the 2 runs we don't have here yet, I'm talking about segmented runs done with a team, if you are interested, please post here.
Edit: HL2DQ team had an excellent start with HL source, if anyone of those are still here and willing to pick up where they left, this is your chance Smiley
Edit2: If it wasn't clear, I'm going to be one of the runners, I've been practicing my bunnyhopping before I dared to make this topic.
Edit3: Scrap the previous, I'm going for Gunman alone  Smiley
Thread title:
Ad infinitum
Considering Gunman Chronicles:
I've played the Gunman Chronicles demo a couple of times, and I just finished it for the third time or so. I'm currently trying to get my hands on the full-version. I probably won't be speedrunning this game, but it seems to have speedrunning potential (explosion boosting, bunnyhop, weapon-boosting, wall-strafing etc). I'll try the full version first, but it does seem pretty fun to speedrun. I'd watch an speedrun for sure!

Considering HL: Source:
We were going to do a speedrun of this game over at HL2DQ, but we were only four active runners or so, and we lost interest. I've been thinking of picking it up again, but I always loose interest in it. I don't think I'll be speedrunning this game either. A speedrun would follow Spider-Waffle's run to a large extent, but the differences would be interesting to see as well (like the Power Up-chapter). I'd be glad to watch a well done speedrun for sure!

Here's some threads and info if you haven't seen these already, I wish you good luck if you plan on running either one of these games.
Half-Life: Source DQ-thread at HL2DQ.net
Speedrun of the first four maps of HL:S, from the HL2DQ.net forums (video made by DemonStrate)
The old Gunman Chronicles Speedrun thread here on SDA
Here is DownUp's Gunman Chronicles website, some basic info and times can be found there

I've been trying to find DownUp's Gunman Chronicles speedrun, but no luck...

I've been trying to find DownUp's Gunman Chronicles speedrun, but no luck...

I've been trying to find his speedrun aswell, with no luck too...
I've been through all those links but posting them is still much appreciated, at least I know I can expect some help here. Also I was trying to get HL2DQ runners to see this, just to let them(and you) know there's still a chance to finish something people lost interest to.
Now about running, Gunman Chronicles has very much potential to be beaten and broken, I've got lots of shortcuts and sequence brakes planned, and I think I could compete for the fastest time ever in this game.
Btw, if you want, I could create a torrent for Gunman, the game isn't that great but with HL physics, the possibilities are endless  Smiley
Edit: I've been lurking back in this site for few years now, finally decided to register and try to do something of my own, I've seen most of the videos and discussions and have practiced alot with HL1-engine based games, so I'm not just someone who creates a thread saying "I'm going  to beat the old records"
The  first thing that came to my mind after watching your unfinished HLS run(again) was, I could've been slightly faster at the start  Grin
Maybe I'm being big-headed here, sorry for that, I just write whatever moves through my head instantaneously.

No need to create a torrent, my Gunman Chronicles download will be done in a couple of hours. I'll be checking it out for a couple of days probably - and I'd be interested in seeing any possible shortcuts and sequence brakes that you've got. I did get the sense that the game wasn't the greatest and that it was kind of neglected, but the HL physics should make this game fun to mess with at least Smiley

Quite frankly, the game is crap, but HL physics makes it worth a run, you get the shotgun pretty early and that gives nice boosts with some scripts, worst problem is that dead enemies block you, unless you shoot them again, also too bad there are some unscippable events that makes this run boring, I'm aiming for sub 50 min, no matter how many retries or months it's  going to take, I'm going to do it.
I got this idea, I'm going to post youtube videos of my progress, but I'm going to post 2 videos at once, first would be how it should be done normally, the second will be me doing it maybe little bit differently and slightly faster, hopefully you like this  Smiley
Shall I upload the DownUp run for you guys, or are you doing fine (@confuzed) ?

Stay tuned.

Regards
That would be very much appreciated, I've tried to find his run but all links give an error, saying the file doesn't exist anymore.
Uploading that would be a lifesaver for me, if I don't have the previous run, how would I know if I've beaten it Smiley
However, I don't consider that as a real speedrun, using codes at start of the levels is just something I can't stand, in quake it would be ok but on Gunman the starting place changes if you use codes, add that to early shotgun and you can see a lot of forum fight.

That would give you more work to do though...just saying. There are pros and cons with doing two videos, but I'd be most certainly satisfied with the speedrun video only! It's your choice...

What difficulty are you planning to play on btw?

I would like to get my hands on that speedrun for sure...you don't happen to have the Gunman videos that Snap put up on rapidshare, do you? Anything you got, I'd like to see.

I can allways stop making 2 videos if that seems too much of work Wink
Most likely I'm going to play on hard difficulty, that just seems like a proper way to do it.

There is no victory without combat
I didn't finish the game, cause it destroyed itself when I got in the 3rd level of the game (where you pwn with a tank around...). So I'd love to see a Speedrun of this beatiful game with a totally awesome weapon system. I encourage you for this, good luck!

Yeah, kind of agree. I've been playing it today (on Normal) and I'm at that western part, this game has some really good speedrun potential but some parts will be quite hard to survive I think.

I'm thinking that the tank-parts might be done "HL2DQ-style"; which means that it could be possible to skip the tank and just bunnyhop REALLY fast using the shotgun to accelerate instead. But those turrets seem to have some kind of aim-hack, they hit you very often and they drain your health away very fast.

I think that more HL-speedrunners should get their eyes open for this game...

Thank you! I've been wanting to see this run for several years now! But it's not much compared to todays HL-speedrun standard (there's no shotgun-boosting for starters, which is shocking).

Those tank parts are worth investigating, I doubt it is possible but if I find out later that someone did it without me investigating enough, I'd be really disappointed.
I agree with the quality of Downups run, sadly he has found all the shortcuts I discovered, unless I find more, all I can do is shave of from his times.
I remember reading that the briefing at the start is scippable, I havent been able to do that, if anyone knows anything about this, let me know too Smiley
Edit: I have a problem with my mouse buttons, they tend to doupleclick or even more, that's going to an issue when I'm running, setting up weapons is so frustrating and selecting a weapon allmost allways results with a wasted shot, until I get a new one, I'm only practicing and planning.
For the start I'm not going to include the 5 min intro, instead I wait that time without moving my mouse or character, and start there.

I finished my first playthrough and it's really a random game, it's actually feels like a mix of games from the late 90's (Half-Life, Unreal, Deus Ex, Outlaws). I've played it through a second time, playing on Hard difficulty now as well. The tank part is most likely not possible on foot. With full health/armor; the first 6 turrets are "easier" to get past (still hard though) but the 7th is located at a uphill slope, the 8th and 9th are at a quite large open area, the 10th is in a enclosed path, the 11th is together with tank-turret (the tank is considered the 12th turret), the 13th and 14th are in a quite open area at the end of the ravine-part. I've made it past the 6th so far so it's most likely not possible. But never say never?...

I've got a couple of shortcuts that weren't used in DownUp's video, I'll post them tomorrow perhaps. However, most shortcuts were used in the video OR mentioned by Snaps in the old thread.

Just a little update, I'm working on this, decided to drop 2 video-idea and not sure about difficulty anymore...
Stay tuned Wink

Just to add: If I can beat this game on easy a LOT faster than on hard, then it's time to reconsider.
I love SpeedRuns
I hope you complete it Cheesy My speedrun is messed up.
I was trying to do the speedrun with some random friend i found on IRC but he failed hard so it ended up that i did the whole game with the start map + Shotgun thing.

I wish you the best luck on this game.
This game got very long cutscenes but i think you can fix a good time anyways Smiley

Glad i found this topic x)
I got the homepage + rec/map files still on my computer if you want me to upload it :p.. But someone found the video Cheesy
unemployed Dragon
@ downup
and the lack of a High Quality Speedrun @ 60fps

Cheesy

I used to watch Gunmandq_downup_54min.avi so often, but it would be a pleasure to watch a new run maybe with new cool tricks tho.
Iam looking forward to the new run.

Make that 2!
Watched my video now ^^ and it's horrible :D.. few good tricks tho but it can be done a lot faster

There is one good shotcut if you can get up here without taking the long way.

This is where the big guy is holding up an rock from falling. so a rocketjump or something might help :p.. saving a lot of minutes.

This is one of the shortcuts that I've found as well, the jump is possible by using the "charge-setting" with the pistol. Compared to your run it saves about 30 seconds.

EDIT:
You can actually do a charge-setting-jump by going to the right. So instead of jumping onto that pillar to the left, you jump straight up at the right side. You can't have any armor basically, but I don't think it will matter anyway.

@Confu]Z[eD:
I'm glad you've dropped the 2 video-idea, the run will be hard enough at it is =)

I don't think changing the difficulty to easy will help a lot, I will test the difference on some places though.

EDIT:
When you get the ACID-gun (?) you can turn off all the three substances (Acid, Basic, Neutral?) and turn up the power-level (distance/pressure?) - if you do this the you've got unlimited horizontal-boosting since it gives you a boost but it uses no ammo. Awesome!
Hello folks, just wanted you to know that this run is far from over, difficulty is set to hard and that won't change anymore, now I need your help, I've heard here and there that the briefing at start is scippable, no matter I do, I just cant fin the solution how to do it...
It's me, Confused, lost my password with Firefox update so reregistered.

Glad that you've chosen the hard difficulty. Where have you've heard that the briefing could be skippable? Any hints on how/why/when this would be possible? :S

I haven't played this game for quite some time and I don't think I'll have much time to help in this project atm, but I'd still like to see this run! This is probably one of the most speedrun-friendly that haven't been looked into by that many runners...

I quess my memory has played tricks on me, it only mentions skipping a boring briefing but doens't specify which briefing that is  Undecided
I don't want to quote a large post so this will have to do: "- if you do this the you've got unlimited horizontal-boosting since it gives you a boost but it uses no ammo. Awesome!"

There's a slight problem with the experimental chem gun, it takes a fraction of a second for the boost to activate and if done too quick, you just push yourself backwards if you are allready facing the direction where you want to go, shotgun 4 shell strategy is still going to be my favored strategy, since the boost is instant and therefore more consistent.

Unlimited boost will come in handy but I'm not planning to use it very much, only in areas that are easy, where I can afford to be looking back 1/3 of the time or so...  Wink
