Got another run done in 40:40 with some pretty dumb mistakes. http://www.twitch.tv/kubelwagon185/c/2188099
I could have gotten below 40 so easy if it wasn't for the idiotic play on Downtown and Residential, and also the Cop Car Crush mission glitching out for some reason. Sad
Gonna put some more attempts in soon.
Forget sub-40, how about sub-35 Shocked
GTA2 RTA in 35:27: http://www.twitch.tv/kubelwagon185/c/2204739

I was pretty shocked I managed to get 35. I was thinking 38:XX was a reasonable estimate.. lol. Especially with the disaster at the beginning of Residential. I'm starting to wonder if 33:XX is the current limit. Also, once again I beat the Industrial time in the full-game run. New Industrial time is 20:35. Tongue

Ace!
Need to watch this run tomorrow.
That is a damn good time already since that 40:40 was already pretty good.

For a GTA "leaderboard" that molotok might be interested on as well,
I have been rolling this following thing http://lerppu.net/gta/?page_id=2
Could give you guys editor rights if you are interested on keeping GTA2 section up to date.

Plan is to have GTA-relevant information in one place as currently is seems to be really fragmented, which is unfortunate.
Still a bit unfinished but the idea is to have something simple and central instead of random .txt links and bits of scattered information.

Also, a lot of 3D GTA runners hang around on #gta @speedrunslive IRC so feel free to pop by if you want to talk about GTA Smiley
@Kubelwagon: It can go sub 30 if you find a way to do the glitch in Residential constantly, otherwise if you do the strats which you do now, probably 32:XX. Btw, it´s enough to get just 2 multipliers after the first save, also again jumping from the ramp to the wang car directly full speed safes you a bunch of time, too. I think a sub 19 Industrial is possible with risk taking and enough luck, but for a IL run of course. Good time nevertheless. Smiley

@oasiz: That´s a good idea. The category should be any% for all, the full game would be = any% RTA, the individual levels = any% IL Downtown or just any% Downtown etc.. Would also be good if a link for description of the runs strats and correct timing method would be included there somehow as well, but i guess it will come from time to time if enough gta runners support this.
Finally finished Industrial and in the end it was a 19:19 (video is the first post of the topic). The time might look good but considering i had major screw ups it is just an average run...

About the run: I changed the route to the one Kubelwagon uses now because the green Krishna mission is faster than the last Russian mission.
At the start I didn´t have the best pattern and got stuck so I arrived at 30 secs at the phone(best was 25 in other attempts and better pattern). The first mission was decent, ending it @2:38, but I failed to lure a cop car to the docks which costed me 15 seconds. The second mission was very good, had good spawns and there is just nothing to complain. Last Russian mission was average i got stuck at some places where i shouldn´t have, but in total I finished the Russian missions @5:42 which is a decent time.

The first Krishna mission was under average I failed to get a wanted level of two, so no cop car followed me to the crane. The second one was average, but I positioned the cop car very badly(at the spawn point), so it costed me extra 15 seconds in the end.

The EE part started @10:35. I blundered the sub 19 at the second EE by jumping to the right instead of left, missing the bus and losing 25 seconds.

The run is a bit disappointing because I had a good start and lost a lot in the end. A 17:XX should be possible now with a very good run.
Wow, that was an epic run. The second Russian mission was super fast. For the Krishna green mission, you just have to drive on the sidewalk for a bit and run some people over to get the police on you, then gun them down when they come after you. Still though, awesome job. Grin
Here it is ... sub 6 downtown! A sloppy run but at least i got what i promised. Only little change is that now I don´t run the guys over in the last Yakuza job but instead just line up the car, get out and shoot 4 rockets.

Also some funny sidenotes: I got this run 10 minutes after i got a 5:57, but that was even sloppier, because i was 15 seconds behind of where i should have been on the first Yakuza mission which still leaves quite some room for improvement. Also I got a 5:54, a 5:56, 3x 5:58 and 2x 6:00 which all didn´t happen because the EE after the bus explosion failed.

Besides that I also want to announce that I have routed a 100% downtown run and currently trying to get it done somehow... best so far was failing the 20/22 mission at ~1:26:30, having 47/50 tokens and 19/20 frenzies done, but that run was crap anyway. I think it is possible to do it in ~1:25:00 or even less.

Btw: I saw that now a Leaderboard for GTA games exist. Would it be possible to add GTA 2 to that board? Maybe then more players would try to attempt this game.
hello, world!
Molotok,

you're awesome, that is all. Smiley
Big ups for the run, Molotok! Grin
ChickenB0h BOH! :D
nice Cheesy
Thanks guys! thumbsup

Btw Kubelwagon when will you start to make some more attempts, long time since your last runs. You could improve your RTA run by using better strats for Residential(i mean not the glitched one, but the one with the three saves) or go for some ILs, Industrial isn´t actually so hard to beat. Grin

Nice run Smiley
Traffic manipulation is cool.

I'll be interested on seeing the 100% run as some missions can be pretty brutal.

As for the leaderboards, the page I was doing gained little traction in terms of interest from the community so I suggest you aim at this gdoc: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0Ak-SWBG91MmvdFVZYllvZFI1a3hCU08yYWpjQ0xLTVE&output=html

You should pop by #gta in speedrunslive IRC some time.
I'll tell roy to include GTA II on the board I linked.

Hyper hyper! That glitch looks so cool, someone needs do run GTA 1 as well!

I've just watched the IL runs and I've got a few questions:
Framerate will be locked to 30 fps?
Residential: This run is so fast that using this glitch would most likely be considered a seperate category. Is anyone interrested in running this level without using this glitch?
Industrial: Is there no multiplier in this level?

Big thanks, once i figure out how this IRC stuff works, I will pop by!

1. Yes, there is an option in the GTA 2 manager to switch the frame limiter on. The thing is GTA 2 is hardly fps dependend so the only way to make runs fair and comparable is to run with the limiter on or a software which limits the fps to 30.

2. The problem is that the other way of doing Residential would be by safe and load and abuse the Wang Car bonus glitch... yes it´s a glitch too, so how to actual handle it i don´t know, it´s hard. Although non glitch runs already exist where the tank got used, I think times around 12 minutes or something.

3. No unfortunately there are no multipliers in Industrial.
Hello again, after a 15 hour grinding I improved the Residential district to the MAX... more or less. The new time is 47.20 secs, ! The run in the video is worse than 2 or three other runs I had (in the best one i hit the pink marker @46.40 seconds and it showed the completion screen only @47.27, while in the 47.20 run, I hit the marker only @47.07...). In total I got about nine 47s and 12 or more 48s....

Notes: I changed the route after the EE part because of the trains that are blocking the way. I could only get 48.07 with the old path.

Also you can hear a bit San Andreas sound in the background... I was watching Shanz stream while I did this attempt and dxtory recorded it, lol.

That run looks almost perfect. 15 hour grinding session, wow that's dedication.

Here's one of my failed experiments to do the EE glitch with a passenger stuck under taxi on Industrial:

If I used a molotov or approached from another angle then the result may have been different but it's tough to get the cop to cooperate.

I got an EE glitch working on Industrial. This is how you could speedrun Industrial if you were a precision god:

I tried throwing molotovs and all kinds of weapons at the stuck ped but it didn't give me any points. I even got in the cop car but no points. It uses a modified script to make setup easier. I started next to taxi and instant gang and I was able to increase wanted level at will but in theory it could be done without modifications. I think it requires too much precision. An easier method might be to knock peds into the water using explosives and then run them over before they sink but even that is really difficult. I've seen peds surf on my hood before, so maybe you could drive a surfing ped into the water and then run them over.
Sounds like you might be able to get that on Downtown as well. Shocked

edit:

Most of the water in Downtown is fenced off but it should still be possible on the few areas that aren't fenced off.

Wow, that´s some awesome finds there, this is definetely the way to go! This also means that it starts to make sense to seperate the categories in glitched and glitchless.

All the water in Downtown is fenced off, so water glitches are out for that one unless there's an invisible break in a fence somewhere.
Actually there is a place, where you do the "Radio Za-Za"-Mission and the guys throw Molotovs at you.

BTW:  Do you know if there are some fixed timers or something because when I did the attempts in Residential the best times were all clustered around 48.07-48.17 with the train path and 47.20 - 47.27 in the other one despite me being over half a second faster at the pink marker?
Really impressive runs you all have here! As someone who's played this game quite a lot I'm quite awed by the efficiency you can complete these areas. Though I have a question about the Downtown District, about the Stop the Tank! mission. Would it be faster if you rigged the car with explosives, armed it at the tank and drove away with another car? Just wondering since I finished that mission myself once by dumping a car with explosives by it before running away.

I just tried that two times and timed it at when i was at the building with the yellow Yakuza missions to the Job complete screen. It took me 13 seconds both times, but considering I had little bumps maybe I could do it in 10 seconds at best.

The one method in my run takes 10 seconds, but can be done in 9 if I better align. Also I don´t need to watch for a car afterwards which costs time and deal with eventually pesky black suit leftovers, so the one I use in the run is safer and a tiny bit faster. But still a nice idea, I didn´t think of that before. Tongue

Besides that I also know another improvement to my current run. I just rig the car after this mission and try to blow up the bus at the bus station, after collecting peds. This safes me driving back to rig the bus and should safe 20 - 25 seconds. The problem with it is that there is a smaller spawn rate at the bus station so to get it you need more luck than before.
Hello, here it is, the 100% downtown run, done last night in 1:15:22. Tongue

No real major mistakes in this run, but the respect balancing costed me probably about 2 - 3 minutes. Normally I should have 3 units of Yakuza respect after I do the five Zaibatsu missions and I played safe there. Then I forgot that I need to kill Loonies after picking up "Destroy J-Lab" mission, and kill Yakuzas after completion. Also got busted and died unintended once. Will put some commentary later in the video.

Nice job Molotok. I've never even completed 100% with save games and now you did it without.

I completed Industrial level any% in about 2mins11secs using a complex "taxi passenger forced into water, held with copcar and ran over with limo glitch". I was planning to use both limos but I got lucky and only needed one. Good luck Molotok Tongue

Oh hell yes!! To be honest, to be honest, I always thought 100% would be one of those "it would be awesome but no one will probably do it" runs. This just made my day. Nice job!
