Is there a way to limit the amount of threads that can be made by new members per day (maybe "new" could refer to same day as registered or same week) as we seem to be getting increasing numbers of spam attacks.

I'm sure there are other methods that could help to stop this kind of thing, and maybe they should be voiced here to try overcome this recent influx of spamming.

Better solution. Get mods that actually mod.

HELLO!
Delaying new posters just causes the spammers to wait.

Thanks for the vote of confidence VG

As it happens, Taiga isn't very good at deleting things, especially not multiple things in bulk. We've been on this for quite some time already, but taiga just slows to a crawl (and deleting 150+ threads manually isn't a fun option when on mobile)

I deleted yesterdays spam wave well before most people got out of their beds, but it's not sustainable unless we get a significant speed up to deletes.
are people banning the ips before deleting the bot accounts/posts?

best actions are:

1. go to a thread posted by a bot, click on "ip", ban the ip
2. go to the bot's profile, click on delete, check "delete [bot]'s posts", hit delete

i just rolled out an update that makes deleting users much faster.

Yep we always IP ban them. They come in multiple IP ranges though and change them around so it only helps so far (todays wave had all different IPs compared to yesterdays).

Appreciate the quick fix! Smiley
We'll get to stress test it if a new wave comes around

newer consoles still isn't cleaned up fyi

EDIT: Thanks for the cleanup.

When will pms be turned back on?
what?

what are you seeing?
Right now the little thing you click next to somebody's name isn't there. There also isn't a way to make posts in existing private threads.
wonder how that happened ...
I'm guessing it had to do with how posting for regular users were turned off, and they weren't turned back on with posts in the main forum.
I'm assuming it was some form of user rights issue.
let me know if you see anything else amiss. thanks.

I don't think I see the other usual forms of contacting people on their profiles, but I can't tell if it's just that they don't have anything listed or not.

EDIT: for example, email, etc.
should have twitter and msn here: https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/profile/0xwas.html
Yeah I see that now.

IsraeliRD turned off private messaging along with regular posting for awhile in order to block the spam wave. I forgot about the private messaging thing when I turned user posting back on so that's why it was missing.
I also enabled creating threads with polls once again.

Wait, you can do that? I spent way too long looking for that option and just gave up. :/

Good to know for future reference.

Time to move away from Taiga.
HELLO!
Of course if the whole run verification system and budding CMS are all built on Taiga, that's easier said than done.

I don't think that's necessary. I don't know how much control anyone has over the source code, but I imagine a lot of the speed problems with deleting stuff can be solved by optimizing the SQL queries involved
