Sounds good.  You should check out the Speed FAQ on GameFAQs if you didn't already.  KADFC has a different way to approach the game, his final save time is 5:00:28.  I basically wanted to find another way to go about the game that may be faster than that.  I haven't really sat down to take it on because of FFVIII and all, but I know there has to be another way, maybe.  Your way just proves that you can go about it differently while still getting 5 hourish time.  Nice work.

Edit:  After rereading your post, most likely you haven't seen the FAQ yet.  It's probably an ego killer, I know, but don't give up.  Try and find another, better way.

ah well, I tried to look one on gamefaqs, and didn't notice it. And when you mention that faq, ooh duuuh I see it now. My method was another possible way to finish quickly, I were kind of doing it slow - just trying out for time estimation and contributing info.

After looking into this a little bit more, I definately think sub 5 at the last save is possible.  Though, I need to research this more...  I think I'll work on this along with Kingdom Hearts.  Heh, I guess SA2 is going to have to wait a bit longer.

So far it's looking good for sub 5.  Not only am I finding faster strategies than the Speed FAQ, but also some unnecessary dialogue too.  It's actually sub 5 for the new game plus screen, not the final save like I said in my previous post.  Getting both the lady luck and alchemist dresspheres take an unnecessary amount of time.  Though, I don't know how much time a revised strategy will take, since the battles might be longer.  But the way I see it, getting both of those dresspheres takes about 30 minutes at least, only to save time on 10 battles, is not worth it.  Three minutes extra per battle is a long time.

Basically my strategy is to abuse abilities that do damage based on something like Hp, not your own attack or mag attack which will be weak.  Stuff like Charon + Hp increasing accessories + Downtrodder GG (for double Hp) or Stamina tablet/tonic or Carnival Cancan = massive damage.  I'd use Charon as a last attack, so to get the bosses to enough Hp to finally unleash Charon I can use Samurai's Mirror of Equity + SOS Critical or Dancer's Dirty Dancing and all the other Hp increasing stuff = massive damage.

Another thing is to use Black Mage with Black Magic Lv.2 and 3 + Menace of the Deep GG (for Waterga until I learn one of the -agas) + Wring + Soul of Thamasa = instantaeous spell execution + high damage + no wait time for spell execution or refilling ATB.  Yes, if I'm fast enough and have ATB set to wait, enemies may never be able to attack, because ATB will only move while I switch people with triangle.  Enemies might be able to get in one attack, maybe two.  It takes a lot of AP to learn the Black Magic Lv.2 and 3, but I could learn those during the course of the game.  I just wish I could get the Megiddo GG because Flare does so much more damage than the -agas, but it would take too much time to get.  Getting Wring should only take 2 or 3 minutes.

Now to quote the Architect, "the problem is choice."  It would take a long time to go through the game trying both strategies.  I still need to go through the game again for all the little details, but this is going to take longer than expected.  I think I might use a combination of both the Charon and Black Mage strategy.  During any of these though, I would attack with one of the other girls first for a chain.

Edit:  Even better!  Forgot that I could cast reflect on everyone and bounce Waterga off my party.  With Soul of Thamasa, it's 1.5x for each of the three attacks.  Attacking all enemies with a magic reduces damage by half, but reflected three times is 1.5x.  So it's 1.5x normal damage + chain effect + Soul of Thamasa 1.5x for each of the hits.  I do around 5000 damage per Waterga, wow.  Ok, I'm sticking with this and Charon.  Smiley

Yes those sound good, I always knew that lady luck quest is too long.

I remember when I played this game that every boss battle from the end of Chapter 2 to the end consisted on nothing but special dressspheres just so I could survive.  Those bosses sucked.  ALL OF THEM.
give me your eyes!!!
I played it through twice. My first time as a big newb and I only completed it by discovering the special animal-shifting dressphere and unfairly mincing the bosses. But this seemed quick.

My second time I did sidequests and took time to level (as well as going for 100% completion) so I was powerful enough to take on the 100-floor place.

Based on the relatively low-level in the first scenario, it doesn't seem at all unlikely that with better equipment management this game could be blitzed through.

Initially I wanted to get Yuna trigger happy lv2 / lv3 and get Cat Nip (floor 30 isnt it?), 2 Charon would do the job. And also thought that just skip Wring / Bloodlust would be good idea (just kill yuna and revive in critical status with phoenix down). But I just remember charm bangle doesn't work in 100 floor  Sad  I dont know how much time I could save with Trigger Happy + Cat Nip for the rest of game (Cat Nip only be gotten in CH5?)

EDIT - I looked, floor 40! meh

Well, I'm going to be starting the run of this soon.  It was really fast since you can skip cutscenes and there's little dialogue.  Just need to make the finishing touches.  I think I'll be completing this before FF VIII.  It's a shame, but I'm still too annoyed to continue playing so soon.

And thanks ventuz for sparking my interest in this run.  I might not have even begun if I didn't think there was a way faster than Alchemist's White Hole.  This topic helped me try and find a faster route, and proved that there could be one.

Heck, I think I may complete this by the end of the week.  Although, I suck at estimating a final time (look at  the FF VIII topic as an example, lol).  As for a game complete time, well, I suck at that too.
It's-a me, Raven!
I'm having trouble finding the time to do testruns for my second project, and wasabi is just doing three at a time with two more in queue... Am I just that bad, or are you just that good, wasabi? Tongue Good luck with it - looking forward to the run! (even though I haven't played X2 yet, even if it is on my shelf - so many games, so little time!)

Mwahaha!  Chapter 1 complete in 56 minutes.  That's 6 minutes faster already than KADFC's best time for Ch 1.  And the main thing I was aiming for was just to get a better time after Ch 3, since my time saving strategy doesn't start until there.  Well, some in Ch 2 also, but mostly Ch 3.  I didn't even know it could be faster in Ch 1. I thought my time would be slower, since I use a Black Mage which is slower than Warriors just attacking.  I'm guessing I saved a lot of time on the Guardian Beast in Zanarkand.

Sub 5 is already possible, so I want to see if this will get me sub 4:30.  Wish me luck!
Fucking Weeaboo
If you do it, I WILL watch.  I want to see somebody do better at this game than the crap time I had with it.

Shocked wow, 56 minutes at end of chapter 1? Was it recorded or a practice run?

I'm so looking forward to see your speed run, good luck.
King of hearts
I already did a practice run using my beefed up file to use anything at my disposal to see what's faster, which made things very easy.  Right now I'm near the end of Chapter 2 before the fight with Georapella.  I seriously can't believe my times in the game, and also how fast I'm completing the run.  Though, the hardest parts (Magus sisters, Vegnagun) have yet to come...  And they're the final two segments...
King of hearts
Chapter 2 complete, time:  2:02.  This is 22 minutes faster than KADFCs run at Ch 2 end.  Do note that I don't end a segment there or at the end of Ch 1, I just check how long it takes to get there from the save I start from.

I save a crapload of time even though I get the Downtrodder GG, Wring, and Dark Knight, which I think totals up to about 5 minutes extra.  By (maybe extreme) overestimation, I'm going to guess that I'll lose 10 minutes on Ch 5 since the battles will be slightly longer.  So no matter what, I think this run will be at least 40 minutes faster.

Oh and KADFC, if you're reading this don't take any of this personally.  I'm just using your guide as a reference for times and what I should be aiming for.  If anything you should be flattered that someone took enough interest in your guide to see if they can challenge it.  Wink
Heaven or Hell! Let's Rock!
Wow 22 minutes! Excellent Darkwasabi
Carry on like that
King of hearts
Chapter 3 end, time:  2:33.  That's 57 minutes faster!  My chapter 3 takes only 31 minutes while KADFC's takes 1:06.  So getting the Alchemist, Lady Luck, and learning Bribe all takes about 35 minutes total.

Sub 4 is not possible, but I'd say my final NGP time will be around 4:10~4:20.  [Zimmer]I guarantee it.[/Zimmer]

good god man, sub 4:30 then  Wink
King of hearts
Chapter 4 complete, time: 3:01.  I lost a minute because of 3 spherechange animations for the first time with Rikku, so now I'm ahead by 56 minutes.  I did it all in one segment because it's an easy chapter with only one battle, though it was really pissing me off because Zalamander would always kill off Paine.  I solved this by switching her to Warrior and she used Sentinel.  It was poinltess because he then attacked and missed her in that run, lol.

Now the most annoying chapter left, yay...

Shocked if you make it to end of chapter 5 under 59 minutes, it would be sub 4.  Cheesy

It's not possible.  My battles will be slightly longer than using White Holes (it's as fast as holy, the same animation, but much stronger, does around 5000+ damage), especially against the Magus Sisters.  I will do a little bit less when it comes to inputting the notes to get past Azi Dahaka, since KADFC goes and finds them first and then inputs them.  You don't have to find them first.  He also does the first piano which is pointless, since that's only to get rid of the electricity at the beginning, which you can just walk past when it's off (the one that knocks you back).  This may total up to a minute or two at max.  If I'm lucky, I may break even, but I definately won't save any time in this chapter.

Edit:
I've also noticed that this game has not been getting much attention...  Especially compared to VIII.  Do people actually like this game, or even played it?  I love it, it has the best battle system and most replay value compared to any other FF.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I'd enjoy watching a run, but a lot of people wern't to fond of the game since they felt it was too girly. I have never played the english version but I felt the japanese one was very hillarious even if it was just a bunch of goofy girls running around giggling. That's what 90% of the japanese girl's I've ever meet do and so I guess that's just how I figure they should act. /shrug
give me your eyes!!!
I think most were put off since it appears to be made for those without girlfriends or limited porn access (NOT why I bought it ;)).

I found the battle system excellent, a lot faster most others. This was first jarred by the insane music tempo but it all works together eventually.

The dresspheres seem similarly girly, but cultivating different ones in particular etc. was very interesting, and I am glad I got the game and completed it 100%

I also enjoyed the idea of finding areas from the old game in a less depressive state, and the mission layout worked well in the mix of all these crazy additions.

That being said - the thing that tipped the scales for me on whether to buy it was Yuna singing. Anyone who's played X and X-2 will understand that feeling.

So I at least, look forward to it!
