Hey everyone,

I wanted to make this thread to see if anyone else has thought about/attempted to run Enclave as a SS run. After initially searching through the forums, I saw this threadhttps://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/enclave_spppppppedrunnnnn.html, but it seems like there's been no action from there in years.

I've been playing around with running Enclave's Light Side levels in the past few weeks and have been seeing some pretty good improvements. It's a relatively fun game that has some seriously random elements which keeps things interesting.

Anyway, I'd love to talk to anyone who has some more experience with the game to talk about some improvements that I could make.

I will include my PB run below if anyone wants to see what a run looks like/give me some tips.

Cheers.

Hey, cool! I've always wanted to also make a Light Campaign run (my Dark Campaign run is on the site) but unfortunately it never happened... I'll watch your run and see if I know (or maybe rather remember, it's been awhile) of any improvements Smiley
In a segmented test run I was able to improve Kahless_GOA's Light Campaign run with something like 15 minutes I believe but lots of tricks and stuff is probably a bit tight for a SS run.
Thanks Void! I haven't played around with the Dark Campaign in Enclave but I have watched your run and been wowed by it.

Let me know if there's anything major you can think of. I'm happy with my time right now, but there are certainly a few seconds here or that I'm sure could be trimmed off on a handful of levels.

In Deserted Temple you don't have to rescue the Druid, when you finish the level she's automatically available (same for all items and characters in both campaigns).
The Knight is also the slowest so better to use the Huntress in this level Smiley

In Divided City also use the Huntress because she's faster than the Druid. Grenade Arrows are very handy for archers.
At 13:03, should be possible to just jump over the gap. I'm very positive that's possible because I never waited for the explosion Smiley Maybe it can only be done with the Huntress because she's faster and thus jumps farther? I can't remember.

In Outland Wastes at 15:02 it's possible with a crouch-jump (jump and then crouch in the air to get on a bit higher parts) to get on the left rock part/path already and skip the whole section on the right with the Engineer saving lots of time. I could always do it pretty consistently, thankfully for you there's at least a checkpoint before it Wink
The lava golem boss at the end didn't go very well, try to stay away from the slope because that made it more difficult to hit those little golems.

In Ark Amar at 21:25 I'm positive that you can do a crouch-jump on those crates straight ahead to get on the higher part instead of walking all the way around it.

In The Sanctuary at 27:59 if I remember correctly it's possible with a crouch-jump to take the staircase on the right and jump over the gap when it breaks but it was a bit tricky to do.
At 30:24 it was possible to jump on the big steel door and trigger the cutscene and when you skip it you fell during the cutscene and are now on the ground already, but that was also a bit tricky to do I believe.

In The Underworld jump attacking the big skeleton near the end is more effective I think, or maybe you were just unlucky with hits?

In Kam-Zara at 37:21 I always went the right side all the time here, seemed faster. Or maybe it's faster to go to the right and a little further ahead to the left?

About the level Jasindra. Ugh, this was the level I hated the most for speedrunning because it's possible to one-hit kill those Mist Wraiths which later turn into Arch Liches but that's extremely tricky to do... And there are 3 situations (2 in the first room in the tower and the last one in the chapel room later on where you also chase Mordessa) where it would speed up the run quite a lot so I was never looking forward to running this level Tongue I've also never managed to one-hit kill all 3 of them in test runs.
You got a little lost here in this level Tongue
The waiting for Jasindra to come down... That always takes awhile Cheesy

Some general things:

Jumping up ladders is a bit faster if it's a long ladder because if you jump near the top of it it won't do you much good Smiley
When archers are somewhere behind you just keep jumping to maybe get boosted forwards.
You often seem to play very carefully going around enemies or their spawn points in wide arcs.
Try to optimize your movement in general some more.
I was always carrying that one big romanian shield because it covers the most of your character, good against random flying arrows.
When you go down a slope jump on and off the slope to sometimes get a tiny boost. Jumping off a slope that goes upwards makes you jump a tad higher as well.
You seem to be taking quite a lot of money off the route.

I think that's all I've got to say about it, good luck improving Smiley
Well, I have to say thanks for all of the tip, TheVoid.

Each and every single one was super helpful. Luckily, I got hit with about 8 inches of snow so I had plenty of time to piece together some practice runs. At my best, I was able to cut about two and a half minutes off of my PB, dropping my time to the 46:26.

The crouch jumping tip was by far the biggest help and I've been kicking myself in the head all evening for not utilizing it earlier.

I also lucked out and was able to one shot the first Mist Wraith - albeit accidently - but I can't complain.

It was certainly a treat to see such an overall improvement. I started trying to run the game around the start of the year and have already been able to drop around 15 minutes. With a ton more practice and some better luck with some of your tips, I think I can continually cut time off of this run.

I'll include the link the run if you or anyone wants to take a look at it, as well as include my splits to show where improvement was made overall.

Nice improvements, despite some nasty parts like in level 2 and in the Jasindra level where you got completely stuck between those walls and the enemies Wink Ah yes the Ancient Scutum, I couldn't remember the name of the big ass shield!

At the last arrow shooting part in the last level Vatar, better use the arrow shooting device on the left since you'll be going down that way anyway. And when any of those targets, except the heart, have only the small center remaining it takes 4 shots to destroy it so you can keep count of that. You could also keep count for the heart of course Wink

In level 2 in the beginning I believe you can take control of the cannon and press the fire button and then leave the cannon and it'll destroy the door so you can go quicker through it, then walk up to the wall inside which gets destroyed to start the waiting event and then you can grab some money around the place. Whenever you need to wait somewhere you can grab stuff in the meantime, be sure to activate the waiting event as quickly as possible (also in level 2 with the big gate that leads to the outside again where the grunt uses a ram to destroy the gate, you grabbed money just before going close to the gate to activate the waiting event, should've grabbed the money after activating the waiting event. Little optimisable things Wink ).
I've gotta say thanks once more to you, Void.

After hours of attempts today, I was able to cut my time down to 44:11. Unfortunately I wasn't recording at the time so I guess trying to replicate/improve my run will be tomorrow's big project.

The crouch jumping is easily the most helpful things to the run in terms of cutting time down. I've also noticed that jumping twice in quick succession increases your movement speed ever so slightly.

I wish there was a plausible way to make the princess descend from the roof faster after Jasindra's fight; it wastes an absurd amount of time. I'll have to play around with some stuff tomorrow to see if I have any luck.

Barring minor tweaks here and there, I think I've improved the majority of the big stuff for the run so far. Once I get a proper recording of a ~44 minute run, I'll pester you once more to take a look at it and see if we can't come up with any major tweaks.
After much deliberation, I was finally able to get a good run recorded. I saw good hesitantly, however, because the first few levels were absolute garbage. I think I've made some improvements in the later stages and was able to drop time in places I previously hadn't been able to.

With some better luck in the first few stages, I think the run can end up being pretty darn good.

If you guys are still interested in running this, I have a sub 40 light campaign run (I even crashed during the run so this can definitely be improved)

Earlier today I got under 55 for the first time on light side hard.  I have two questions

1. Does the screen shake save enough time to make the time loss of running into enemies worth it?  It seems to me that simply pathing out a route that allows for quicker kills and less stops faster.

2.  Most of the runs I have seen on yt the one posted here is on easy, is there a reason for not doing the run on the hardest difficulty ?
