Thread title:
I want off the ride....
I've already played it and beat it.. so has my room mate;

The battle system is good, story is just a bit annoying.
Here's a true story.  When I used to work at ebgames two guys came in looking at the Xbox 360 games.  One picked up eternal sonata and asked the other if it was a
faggot game
At the time that pissed me off.  Games can be for kids too.

Anyway I beat it over a weekend.  It's okay, but short.  Someone could always do a speedrun and then if anyone says they want to play it just tell them to watch the run instead.  There's a guide on gamefaqs that says it can be beaten in under 2:30 so someone here should be able to do it.
Yeah, I said it.

You should have said, "yes, shall I ring it up for you?"
sda loyalist
Ahahaha... now you're reminding me of Blinx. The shopkeeper there says 'can I ring you up?'

In the UK that means 'can I call you'.

Long live poor locali[sz]ation!

What might not be good for you, might still be good for others.
If you're going to condemn it, at least give us the reasons why so other can actually benefit from your wisdom.
This review certainly agrees with the OP.

I guarantee that if you take 10 pictures of ANYTHING--a rat's behind, your character picking her nose, etc--you will have enough money to last the entire game. See, the game gives a ridiculous amount of cash for this pictures, and while they do judge you, you can nearly buy all new armor, accesories, swords/etc, and 99x of items for just 10 or so pictures.

This game has the most limited amount of enemies I have ever seen in an RPG. I counted. There are about 20 differently designed enemies (excluding bosses), more or less, and the others are either different colored or have a little tiny thing added or misplaced to them to make them "different." Essentially, it's the same creature with the EXACT same attacks. Same attacks. Same attacks. In fact, each character has ...usually two attacks. Bosses have a little more. (And, by the way, repeat boss designs happen more than once, too!)

The game is also unusually short. It took me a little under 20 hours.

If any of that is true, I wouldn't want to touch this game.

They fixed the picture thing in the Ps3; to get any REAL money it has to be of a boss, and done well (C rank is instantly single digit sell value for MOST of the game);

the ps3 added a few more monster designs, an extra dungeon (to give a break in for the 2 new characters).

Everyone has basically a set base attack pattern (Yeah ok), and a handful of specials. The new characters only have 4! which is mandated as the lowest amount. The rest get a healthy dose of between 6-10. Depending on the character... not including repeats (upgradinga  heal or w/e).

Without the story, the game is relatively short, can be beaten in the early 40's with a bit of trouble (need to know the bosses timings to live through some attacks). Random battles are prohibitively long.... for the amount of EXP they get, so grinding is more a pain in the ass than anything else. A good battle could easily take 30seconds to a minute (quick kills) while a difficult one, could take 3-4. This is not normal for MOST rpgs where fights are generally averaged to be around a minute (avg case).

So your really kinda stuck... Honestly the Party Level System is awesome and gives the RPG a new element, replaying it with party level 6 is also a different experience as each one brings +'s and -'s.

overall, if the story wasn't soo... wierd/bad i'd recommend it more... the battle system is just the best part about it. (Ps3 version >>> 360 version)
This thread has convinced me that I really should play the game, complete it over ten times, speed run it and name all my future offspring after the characters in the game. Thanks for the motivation.
Yeah, I said it.
I barely know where to begin with ES. I just know you shouldn't play it.

Eternal Sonata is part run-of-the-mill Japanese RPG, part unbearable chick flick. The music is pretty good, I'll admit. The combat is nice for a while, at least until every battle turns into the same Harmony Chain doldrum. The storytelling is just bad. The setting for the final act of the game came out of absolutely nowhere, entirely too much time was dedicated to minor characters that the player won't relate to (a certain soliloquy from a dying character comes to mind), and then there was the ending.

The ending of Eternal Sonata is so bad, it actually retroactively makes the rest of the game less fun. Eternal Sonata may be the most disappointing game I've played this generation.

Oh, and all of the characters stand with their arms like this: \o/

XD
Just call me the cynicism machine
I would enjoy a short but involving summary of the plot and why it was such a let down.
I used to be athiest until I realized I was God.

clearly you all have no idea what you're talking about
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
Too late... I already played eternal sonata and I actually enjoyed it...  Granted that yes it is short and the battle system is a bit... meh... But overall I enjoyed it, and the musical numbers were very nice and relaxing...  I have played worse RPGs...

Don't play lost lost odyssey, or The Last Remnant... Pass that on...

Not AGAIN. State WHY you don't like the games, or your comment means nothing.
I've actually ENJOYED the Last Remnant so far. The only real issue I had with it was that the text is so friggin' small, you have to sit like 1 meter away from the TV to see it.
Another bad factor was scantly glad women, of course. That is extremely annoying. They can make the women scantly clad, but not the girl. Oh no. Don't do it. EVER. But then again, what game doesn't suffer from this?

One thing you need to keep in mind Mr. Mystery is that when you call someone out, you better be ready for them to call back...  That said...

1) The idea how it works like a squad-type RPG... Its not a one man army and it isn't like tactics, but rather it seems like your leading several groups into combat at one time which (if your bad a multi-tasking) can lead to situations where you can't really manage your troops or get them into positions where you want them...

2) Speaking of positions, I ran into situations where I couldn't even get that right... One moment I think I am jumping a group from behind, the next moment I realize that I get ambushed and violently killed... I suppose it maybe for my lack of how to manage troops, but even if that maybe the case, I didn't have much luck when it came to proper planning...

3) The story in this game was lacking... When I was trying to get interested, I found myself thinking, "Why am I not playing a better Game right now?" and when I was trying to figure the plot out, I found myself then questioning as to the reason why I was doing things completely unrelated to what the story was about...

And those are some good reasons why I don't like Last remnant... Thank you... *takes a bow*
guffaw

Worms II.
Enhasa likes Eternal Sonata.  So it can't be all bad.

I liked it too, quite a lot actually.  Lots of the visuals are beautiful, I liked the story and characters, and having a real-life person as a game character and actually educational tidbits about him is very cool.  But the ending got way too preachy.

Of course. Sure. Go ahead.
It's really nice that you outline the problems you think of Eternal Sonata. It gives others part of your wisdom. It's unfortunate for me that I don't have this game, so whether it's good or not, I cannot say.

Those are some damn good reasons, but I don't qualify it enough to denounce the whole game...
