Hey, good stuff. I hope you finish and submit it Smiley
Hey, I notice that you don't show the loading and saving parts of chapters. Do you have that stuff recorded?
Be careful for nothing;
Oh how I would of liked to see this run finished...  but poop happens :/

Any who, I did start to feel a since of discontent towards this game do to so many people claiming it to be one of the best survival horror games of all time.  It only ripped off RE4 and Doom 3, which is two of the best horror games of all time, and had bosses with matching weak points Cheesy Fun for the whole family!

Sry, needed to vent.

The PC version is going to be faster because of more than just load times, they have the aiming factor on their side as well.  I don't care what anyone says, PC will always have the edge with shooters.
Waiting hurts my soul...

I'm on PC. I saved in the chapter transition. (Like RE4)
Yeah, I figured. Me and alan were planning on doing Dead Space runs on the 360, but we can't compare to the times that could be done on the PC. I believe the PC has faster loading times. For example I think that the game loads while using elevators making the trip shorter on PC and longer on 360. So I would be in a elevator waiting 20 seconds to get to the next area while you only wait 10. That is why I quit my 360 run. I should test it but that has been my theory since me and him can't even come close to sub 17 minutes while doing smoother running than a 17:01 PC run I seen.

PC and console for most FPS style games are separate categories because of the differences in aiming. (e.g. Portal)

Most likely they're different categories for all genres though, since some tricks are PC or console specific. (e.g. Braid [although not done yet])

This seems like the type of game where a run won't ever come out unless I do it. Then it will be mercilessly beaten 3 months later.

Then what are you waiting for?  Wink

I'm sorta working on a semi-test run to see how good I can do, on impossible mode. Was that enough hedging? I also need to see how fraps works out, if I get that far.

Fraps is awesome for dead space check out my videos
just got this game for the 360 a few days ago, and while I still need to play through it, immediately thought it'd be a great game to run. I haven't read any faqs or walkthroughs for it, nor have I watched anything other than promo videos, simply because I want to enjoy it the first time through. If mm is up for running impossible, I might take a look at doing easy. That is, if I can ever find the time, I never get time to run anything anymore. Darn gf and kids. >.>

I watched the easy speedrun on youtube and finished my casual test run on impossible in 3:15 compared to his 2:58 I think it was. About 5-8 minutes could be cut off in pure segmented higher standards speed run conditions. He definitely had some good routes and ideas in his run which I copied. The fact he can kill enemies in 2-3 bullets, pick up 9 bullets per mag vs. my 6, and the fact he can get hit multiple times doing insane strategies would definitely make the runs different. On my casual run I couldn't do the communications dish puzzle without killing the enemies (although that was only like +30 seconds) and I had to take out the 3 tentacles on the final marker run in chapter 12 (that was like 5 minutes because of all the other enemies although I didn't push too hard because I just wanted to finish). I was able to do the fast marker thing when you initially find it but I had to modify his insane strat to where I kill the tentacle. I'm still not sure exactly how he manipulated the marker like that while so far away. I did it with max kinesis range too.

Everything else was more or less the same except it seems like enemies on impossible are a little more active and alert and you can't just run past them and expect to make it unless you shoot or stasis them. Maybe it's a luck thing, something I could push really hard and die 5000 times doing a segment, I dunno.

I'm still not sure if I should get the line gun or not. Its secondary fire does kill brutes/guardians quickly but it makes me do more store trips and it makes tons of line racks appear which is a bad thing. Where fighting a brute is required I can just shoot his shoulders + stasis. There are some nasty guardian parts though, like the sequence where there's also a black slasher. Or two guardians at once. That eats plasma ammo up like crazy because each tentacles takes 2-3 shots to kill.

Check this out.

Just watch the first 1:30. See how he's controlling the marker while dodging the tentacle and he makes it turn the corner and lock into place while walking the opposite way? I couldn't do that. Well, I could, but it was moving at a snail's pace. Either the tentacle would smash me or a random enemy would come and 1H KO me. So my strat was to kill the tentacle and then just put it in place and hope the enemies spawn far away. Not that much slower, but not as cool looking.
hola guys, im starting this one back up. im doing it on imposible and trying to do just the plasma cutter(with limited upgrades). i have already started with the route but im taking my time. im going to start recording tonight and hopfuly get a good run of chapter 1 down. i have what i need to do down its just all about how lucky i get with the ai. hopfully within the next day or so i will have a video up for tips if anyone is interested.

this is my first official speedrun that i am trying out.
hey guys, got the first chapter up.
any ways to make it better would be appreciated
well comments are still welcome but im redoing the run completely. i found a better place to save and i did some stupid stuff in those but im keeping them up on my youtube page for now for any other tweaks that people can help with. (and yes i was planing on redoing the part where i got hit a few times over anyways)

Well, I guess there's not much I can help with. I just wanna say that you should definitely keep up with the run, & try to make it as quick & clean as possible, it will be nice to finally see a good Dead Space run up on the site. I look forward to future segments 8)

I'm glad you're doing it -- less work for me. I'm sure you know to stagger your saves. It's a whole lotta BS that you can only have a limited amount though. That's inexcusable on a PC.
well im on the ps3 so load times are a bit longer so im looking for a run around 17:30ish, the run i have on youtube is 18:20
but it might take a while to get it done, being in college doesnt help plus i decided to go with the s-video option on my video card so you guys wont have to cut your eyes on the pixels so thats why i havnt gotten at least chapter 1 down.
after my success with dead space 2 my friend got me a copy of the original dead space. i am restarting this thread in the hopes theres still some folks who want to see this happen.
Quits halfway
I do. I still need to get through the game, although I really need to find a fix for how the mouse controls are so bad.

I'm interested. I recently finished ds1 and really enjoyed it. Dead Space 2 on the other hand is still in my house unopened, and for this reason I haven't watched your stream Cry (because I don't wanna spoil the game for myself) Good luck! If you're streaming attempts I'll try to pop in and watch.
i've watched a segmented run on youtube so i am going to try to practice what i learned on stream today. i still need to work past the controls that dead space 2 has drilled into me.
i've encontered a game breaking glitch in chapter 9. an NPC blocking my way forward.
top tier GoW player
I'm still interested.  If you haven't already, refer to Farizle/browner, 'Wolfwood' and maybe "AKheon" with regards to your run efforts.  I don't know that projectz3 or gesphenst would help.
